An Oak Aged Imperial Brown Ale with tons of oaky, woody flavors. The base brown malt profile provides a huge caramel, coffee and chocolate body with minimal hop bitterness match perfectly with the complex flavor profile of the oak chips.

-Oaked aged imperial brown ale pkgd 10.12.17 & consumed 11.22.18.
A: Burgundy highlights glisten around the edges of a dark ruby red pour that sits an almost muddled brown-cola in the vessel. A briefly overlaying coppery-bronze topping is short lived, eluding to a polished reflective surface. A steadfast of micro-effervesce sticks well and often to the bottom of the chalice, clinging for dear life and a slow release thereafter.
S: Sweet vanilla-marshmallow bourbon hints are there along with some sweetness of brown sugar and wet barrel wood. Oaky hints of nice strength upon uncapping.
T: The flavor was sweet of cola-vanilla at first impression, Sugary dark malts and crystal come through with a dry edge of bourbon flair showing its strength. Whiskey wood, and some sweet almost cocoa-cola notes and caramel, toffee sweetness rounds things out.
M: Spicy and smooth mouthful, cola like with some active carbonation. Spicy and sweet overall hold.
O: The nose was sweet and inviting, sugary and lively, while the flavor mellowed from the age to a smooth showcase of dry bourbon influence and whiskey soaked wood. Sweetness of cola. Guess I caught this at the right time aging wise, as the barrel influence and time spent really rounded this out with a smooth and easy drinking nature at 7.0%. Not often I get to indulge in the brown ale style, even less when its barrel aged, a nice reaffirming vote of confidence per style.

The pour is mocha brown. The taste is roasted barley malt, dark chocolate, & big dark fruit notes to round things out. Cheers! B

Quite sweet. Very creamy mouthfeel. Molasses on the nose, brown sugar shortbread on the tongue. Well brown colour .
Tasty but too sweet to be a regular beer, plenty fine for a dessert beer.

Pours a dark reddish brown color with a foamy head that disappears quickly Aroma of sweet vanilla-marshmallow bourbon. Tastes of sweet vanilla and bourbon. Sweet and smooth.

Deep brown beer, almost black
Minimal head and no lacing.
I get caramel in the smell and taste, roast.
Slight barrel notes, a bit thin but okay.
Some flat cola aspect but not too bad.

Fairly nice, safe brown ale but there are definitely others out there that are much more tasty. Pours a deep dark amber with minimal head or lacing. Smells of nice wood, malt, roasted nuttiness and just a little coffee. Tastes similarly, along with some milk chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Smooth mild mouthfeel, good carbonation. Goes well with dessert.

Pkgd 11/22/17! Michigan stout glass.
A: pours a super dark brown with 2 fingers sandy tan head. Some glints of ruby shining through. No lacing to speak of, little ring of retention.
S: nutty, estery, roasty brown. Smells just like a brown ale should. Ale esters and nuttiness standing out. Smells like ripening pears.
T: perfect arrival, not very sweet at all, toasty, roasty, nutty, and estery arrival. Nutty, chocolatey middle, then turns - off. Oaky and alcoholic on the end of the sip. Not a whole lot of vanilla, just tannins and alcohol.
M: medium bodied and well-carbonated. Very clean.
O: I had a really awesome brown ale earlier tonight with dinner. This starts out the same, the turns barrel aged, which I don’t like. As a brown ale, this starts out even better than their smoked brown. But then, it tastes barrel aged and alcoholic. Not my thing.would not buy again, but I love Browns and grade harder on styles I like.

My first one from Saugatuck - not bad at all...
In the pint glass the beer has an almost black coloration with reddish hues in the light. A tannish head dissipates quickly and offers no lacing. The smell is lightly boozy, with roasted malts and a hint of chocolate to my nose. The mouthfeel was light and smooth with carbonation kept to what I would consider the bare minimum. The taste for this was mostly a burnt more so than roasted malty flavor. Not particularly bad, but not necessarily appealing either. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the beer (and I found the label art one of the more unique I have come across in quite some time.)

This is a great brown ale..as good as any I have tried....nice and sweet, yet smoky.....another of those that I think malt-heads will like. I would get it again, for sure.
