Saugatuck Brewing Company "Blueberry Lemonade Shandy"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "05/22/19"

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's got a fairly hazy golden body. I thought it might be clearer, but that doesn't matter. The head is a full two-fingers worth of white foam that's holding quite well. It looks good. The aroma offers blueberry lemonade as promised. At first I get the lemon, immediately followed by the blueberry, and then they become one. Interesting. It seems like it might be a little sweetish, but also a little acidic, but I don't know, that's just what my nose is leading me to believe. Let's see, yep, although I find it more acidic than sweet. It's a fairly nice balance though. I'm also getting much more blueberry flavor than I thought I would given the aroma. It's nice, but at the same time I've only had a few sips of this and I'm getting the idea that I'll be bored with it before I get even halfway through. It's nice, but it's just a one-trick-pony. On the other hand, sitting outside relaxing in the sun... I could certainly go for one of these then. It's not that bitter but there is some bitterness to it, and it finishes acidic and dry with blueberry lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp with a standard, and maybe even slightly elevated carbonation. Looking back, the head has dropped and now I've got a whispy surface covering and standar sized collar. There's some lacing left behind but not enough to get it to the next level. Overall I've enjoyed this and I could revisit it given the right situation. For fans of shandies and fruit beers I'd say it's absolutely worth trying.

Gold in color with a fingernail of creamy off white. The aroma reminds me of a blueberry muffin with a hint of lemon. The taste is exactly like a blueberry muffin. There’s just a touch of lemon in the back of the palate. I was expecting to hate this and yet I can see how this is a nice, light refreshing thirst quencher. The mouth is light, quaffable, and crisp.

Very nice Shandy. The Blueberry flavors remind me a bit of Saugatuck's Blueberry Maple Stout. Nice, juicy blueberry flavors upfront, followed by lemony and wheat ale flavor. Sweet, tangy, and refreshing.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden-yellow color with a small, bubbly white head. It smelled of lemonade, fresh blueberries and some sweet caramel. Strong blueberry taste with hints of lemonade.

If you're craving something light bodied, refreshing and unique. This is a fruit and field beer with an added twist of blueberry flavor. The tart citrus of lemonade and the tangy freshness of blueberry combine to create a perfectly delightful beer.

Can poured into a stemless wine glass.

Cloudy straw yellow, foamy head that settles fast into thin ring.

Aroma is sweet lemonade, hint of grain and fresh ripe blueberry.

Pleasant flavor, lightly sweet, lemon, lemonade, citrus zest and fresh blueberry. Has a decent amount of background grain that balances things out a bit.

Moderate carbonation and a bit under medium body. Not sticky or syrupy.

Overall a nice brew in this category. Fruit tastes pretty real, no hint of artificial flavor or sweetness. The best part is the sweetness level, not overly sweet, balanced nicely with the fruit flavors and background beer base.

Canned 6/13/18; drank 7/27/18 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy orange/yellow appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge, noisy white head; decent tree-rung lace.

Blueberry candy & mild lemonade notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Blueberry candy & faint lemonade flavors up front; dry wheat cereal notes on the finish.

Artificial on the fruit angle & off putting on the grain; this is a misfire. Grab a Short's Soft Parade Shandy instead, same idea but way better.

I had been wanting to inCANporate Saugatuck BC with New Holland BC for last week's New Beer Sunday (Week 698), but my selections got the best of me & I had to stop. This will be my opening beer in New Against the Saugatuck Grain Beer Sunday (Week 699)!

From the CAN: "Summer on the Brain All Year Long"; "Refreshing*Crisp*Flavorful"; "Here's to Happy (tm)"; "Tastes Like Summer."; "You're craving something light bodied, refreshing and unique. That's why we created our tasty version of a Radler with an added twist of blueberry flavor. The tart citrus of lemonade and the tangy freshness of blueberry flavors combine to create a perfectly delightful beer."

I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, gentle Glug but when it seemed like clarity was not going to be an option, I let loose with a heavy hand. This led to the formation of just under tow fingers of foamy, fizzy, bone-white head that quickly fell to wisps, leaving nice lacing in its wake. Color was a slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled like lemon zest and blueberry pancakes! Truth in advertising. Mouthfeel was somewhat thin, not quite watery, but not much past it. I tasted the blueberry quite prevalently & the lemonade acCANponied it nicely. Neither flavor seemed artificial and the lemonade was not overly sweet as it has been in some that I have tried recently. I really dunned one for tasting like Country Time & this was nothing like that, thank goodness! It was at the extreme end of Sessionable (4.9% is the accepted high end), but it was really crushable, going down very easily on a hot, humid Summer's day. Finish was fruity, but only semi-sweet on the edge of semi-dry. This CAN easily go into the cooler when headed to the beach. Mmm.

12oz can - time to get summer on the brain, yo! Aren't radlers supposed to be less than the normal 5% ABV?

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy bone-white head, which leaves some random streaky cloud form lace around the glass as it very slowly abates.

It smells of blueberry tarts, fresh real lemonade, bready and doughy cereal malt, candied lemon, and very subtle earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready pale malt, blueberry ice cream, lemon squares, aged lemon juice, simple syrup, and more ethereal leafy, herbal, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly sedate in its palate-disappointing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a nice creaminess arising as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the sugary malt and lingering frooty notes carrying on in the longer daylight hours.

Overall - this is indeed a flavourful version of the style, with both fruity essences blended into an enjoyable tipple. It may come off as too sweet to some, but not this happy camper, as I'm just glad to have had a chance to take a crack at it. Good, good stuff!

Has a slight lemon aroma. No real blueberry presence, albeit blueberries don't smell much. To the point, this is not like a lot of lemon shandy's where they throw lemon aid on top of crap beer. The beer base here has a nice malt backbone and an almost non-present hop character. Very smooth and drinkable --- as a beer. The lemon flavor is in no way overpowering and I can definitely taste the blueberry in this beer, but it's all subtle. I've found my go-to summer beer for sitting out on a hot day..... And I'm not a huge fan of Shandy's.....

Pours a wheaty golden color with a fuzzy head of 1 finger in my mini snifter.

Aromas of lemon, wheat, lemon bars, lemon icing, cereal, faint blueberry.

Flavor is more bitter than I expected for a shandy. It starts off with some mild pilsner-like hop bitterness, and segues into lemon rind and white bread, with a faint cake sweetness floating off somewhere in the distance. Blueberries can be sampled at the finish.

Feel is crisp, somewhat clean, slightly starchy.

Overall, this is much more in line with a Pale Wheat Ale than a Shandy. Still delicious, not sweet at all.

Very nice shandy. Lemon leads the nose with slight wheat and blueberry following. Taste is like a yeasty blueberry lemonade. Very drinkable and light. Not overly sweet too which is surprising and appreciated.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 3/7/2018. Pours slightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/lightly tart/tangy blueberries, fruit skin, lemon juice/peels, wheat, cracker and white bread; with light notes of vanilla, cream, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of fruit, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart/tangy blueberries, fruit skin, lemon juice/peels, wheat, cracker and white bread; with light notes of vanilla, cream, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy bitterness and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy blueberries, fruit skin, lemon juice/peels, wheat, cracker, white bread, light vanilla/cream, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of fruit, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/tart/bitterness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and bready/grainy/sticky/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a delicious shandy! All around nice robustness and balance of fruit, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. This tastes like a cream ale base with added fruit. Feels much more robust than a traditional radler/shandy. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Way better than the draft I had last year. Perfect for a shandy. Not too sweet, but refreshing as hell! Blueberry isn’t in the forefront as much as it creeps in for the finish. Love the label. Probably wouldn’t have grabbed it if it wasn’t a blast from the past screaming at me from a damn lemonhead!

Taste: big lemon, semi sweet, but kind artificial lemonade taste, only a hint of blueberries, fizzy mouthfeel. Zesty lemon nose. Gold, clear, with a delicate lace. Medium/lite body. Wish it was more ale than lemonade like a Radler. 10 IBUs
