12 ounce bottle poured intoa Duvel tulip glass.

L---Rich, dark brown color. One finger head with a fairly aggressive pour. Minimal retention. Lacing was fairly meh.

S---Sweet, very sweet. There's definitely strawberry there, but more of a chemical, artificial strawberry. No real chocolate or vanilla, just fruity & very sweet.

T---Follows the nose exactly. Sweet, too sweet, with some strawberry and vague fruitiness. No vanilla or chocolate.

F---Medium bodied with good carbonation.

O---This is a no for me. Just nothing worthwhile going on.

Picked up a 6 pack from a Marianos in Chicago for $10.99 since I remember having tried it at a beer festival a couple years back. Drank initially at fridge temp but let set it out and continued to sip.

The packaging / can were kind of old timey ice cream shoppe feels that I could kinda get into. Colour was nice and pour looked pretty smooth, but the carbonation looked more like a Pepsi/Coke to me. It was a pretty dark brown, and the head was kind of fizzy + died down pretty quickly. Got a mixed smell of the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, with strawberry being the strongest scent, which was pretty enjoyable. Again got a nice mix of flavours to start, with strawberry standing out, but the finish was kind of bitter and artifical tasting for me. The beer looked like it poured a little thicker, but the mouth feel felt kind of thin + artificially sticky on my lips.

Won't be rushing to finish this pack or to pick up another, but could enjoy one here and there. The strawberry smell is actually pretty nice, but I can't get over how it kind of feels like drinking a soda with more stickiness + a bitter/artificial finish.

12oz bottle PKGD 080319 (4 months ago) poured into a stemless wine glass at fridge temp 6% ABV. The beer dense black with short lived light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate, strawberry & vanilla (a touch artificial). The taste is semisweet chocolate, vanilla & strawberry, as advertised. Very artificial and overpowering. Barely resembles beer. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a wet finish. Overall, ok, if you want 95% adjunct & 5% stout. I won't finish this bottle, but it was a gift.

Look - Super dark brown / not quite black - cannot see light through this (as it should be). Lower head and carbonation but some activity continues throughout

Smell - There is some sweet strawberry and chocolate. Slight coffee notes and dark brown sugar - not super aromatic

Taste - Minute amount of hops in this / slight bitterness but some could be from dark roasted grains - launches into sweet chocolate and strawberry - then back to roasted grains and slight hop bite - It doesn't stay sweet for long and mellows out / balances nicely - maybe some vanilla notes in there

Feel - Not quite the full bodied beer that I expected but it is up there. Not much carbonation but some activity is there to keep it interesting

Overall - This was a gimmicky beer that I just had to try - I did not expect it to really taste like the Neapolitan ice cream but it really does. I didn't get quite as much on the vanilla side, but there are a lot of flavors and quite a bit of complexity. I would buy this again. It is a well balanced beer with just enough strawberry+chocolate without being too much.

I always have to pick this one up when I see it at the store. A really indulgent beer that you can taste all of the Neapolitan flavor elements. Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry are all there with the usual roasted flavor of a stout. This is an exceptional, one-of-a-kind beer. The only thing I can fault it for is that it's on the heavy side so you probably only want to drink one.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Ball 16-oz. mason jar
From: Supermarket Liquors in Fort Collins, Colo.
Price: $2.24 (w/ 10 percent off)
Purchased: April 26, 2019
Consumed: May 4, 2019
Reviewed as: Milk / Sweet Stout
Misc.: Packaged on Nov. 1, 2018

Picked this up with many others on a recent work trip to Fort Collins, Colo. Had been eyeing this one for a long time to review, having given a nitro pour of this a 4.00 on Untappd on Oct. 27, 2018. Only time I had seen it in stores. Online description called it, “A creamy Milk Stout with all the brilliant flavors of Neapolitan Ice Cream in one glass. Taste the rich flavors of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry in this unique beer.”

Poured a pitch black color with one finger of khaki-tan frothy-to-fizzy head which dissipated rather quickly. Could see a bunch of slow moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Below average watery lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled more strawberry than anything else, but got all three. In order got strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, roasty malts and mixed berry. Not much else. From the bottle got a little bit of maple which bumped the smell from a 3.75 to a 4. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted similar to the nose, but slightly better. Got strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, roasty malts and cocoa. (Taste - 3.75)

Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Liked this, but nowhere as much as I wanted to. (Overall - 4.00)

Unknown vintage; drank 7/18/15 @ Xoco Wicker Park.

Black/brown appearance.

Minimal tan head; minimal lace.

Strawberry ice cream & milk chocolate notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Strawberry ice cream & milk chocolate flavors up front; a mildly bitter finish.

Pretty sweet but not quite cloying; an enjoyable treat.

Poured from growler with a fair amount of carbonation and its dark ruby coloring, You immediately catch the sweet malts in the aroma especially the strawberry. Smooth, sweet, and malty on the first taste with some hop bitterness on the finish. The chocolate and strawberry are the prominent flavors with only a slight hint of the vanilla. Quite a tasty stout without being overly sweet.

I like the classy bottle label artwork & there is a best by date on the side of the label. This stout pours black with some ruby red tinges in the shaker pint glass. I am getting chocolate & strawberry on the nose. The taste is sweet, milk chocolate, slight vanilla, some strawberry & roasted malts. The mouthfeel could be a little thicker for the style, I would say that it barely feels like medium. The strawberry is coming out quite bold in this beer with some chocolate action going on in the background & the vanilla is being dominated by those two flavors. The worst thing about this beer is that it's coming off artificial. It's a unique of stout but it would be better with some fresh strawberries than some artificial strawberry flavor. At the end of the day this beer does taste similar to neapolitan ice cream. Cheers! B

Look: Deep chocolate brown with a finger of off-white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: Sweet and spicy. Predominantly chocolate backed by malt.

Taste: Sweet malt tempered by a big hit of roasted bitterness, followed by a distinctive strawberry flavor.

Mouthfeel: Average thickness, high carbonation.

Overall: Mostly succeeds at what it sets out to do, but needs to tone down the bitterness.

It tastes as advertised as a stout with strawberry, vanilla and chocolate in it. If you mixed regular and strawberry in a cup of coffee with cream you wouldn't be far off. It's a bit cloying and sticky but nothing major is wrong with this if you don't mind beer with flavor added. It is a masterpiece but it delivers as promised.

12oz bottle served in a snifter. Packaged 092017 -- so if it's terrible, I'm not completing this review. If it's good, that's impressive.

Pours black with a small head. Smell is coffee stout with a fruity sweetness in the background.

Taste is coffee stout -- dark and strong. Still has a little bit of the fruity sweetness in the background -- something maybe strawberries and cream (are those the white and pink flavors in neapolitan? I don't even know).

Mouthfeel is thick, sticky. Overall, it's pretty good, which is impressive for more than a year old single stout. Wonder how the added flavors would stand out if it was fresh.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Bottling date is stamped on label as '032718'.
Deep brown colored body. Half a finger of light tan head, which sticks around as creamy cap. Leaves behind some medium sized spots of lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts, with milk chocolate, with whiffs of strawberry and vanilla.
Taste is very similar to a melted together ice cream with chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla flavors. Sweet and with no bitterness (other than the roasted malt darkness).
Fuller mouth feel, with a mouth coating sensation. Lower carbonation, but this fits with the Neapolitan ice cream feel.
Remarkably tastes like the blended ice cream. I would put this into the dessert beer category, and one of these per session is enough. Another example of what beer brewing can do to mimic a totally non-beer taste.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Bottled 3/27/18, so 5 months old.

Jet black body, small oatmeal head leaves a little lacing.

There is a pretty strong nice strawberry aroma, but little else can be detected.

What do you know, it actually tastes like a neapolitan . Strawberry and chocolate tastes are front and centre, the vanilla being more of a suggestion. Slight tartness from the strawberries balance out the sweetness,

Mouth is between medium and full, finish fruity and bittersweet.

Overall, well, if you like neapolitan ice cream, you'll like this beer. If not, give it a pass. I enjoyed it.

Like drinking chocolate. It almost has the mouthfeel of a bottled Starbucks Frappucino. A lovely thick dark appearance in the glass. Minimal bitterness. A retro-looking label, as if I bought it at a gas station on Rte. 66 in 1949. This is my first milk stout and I'd definitely try another, although I wouldn't want to drink this every day or even every week. Honestly I suspect this would pair really well with Cheerios.

Like @The-Adjunct-Hippie, I am also surprised that have not reviewed this beer prior to now. Hmm. Well, today is the ocCANsion of New Against the Saugatuck Grain Beer Sunday (Week 699), but I have finished The CANQuest (tm) phase of the Saugatuck portion of today's adventure, forcing me into the bottles until they are likewise exhausted. Oh, the shame!

From the Bottle: "Made in Michigan"; "Stout with Natural Flavors Added".

That "Natural Flavors" jazz is not really any added benefit. It's all the product of a chem lab somewhere. And on that note, I Pop!ped the cap & started a heavy-handed pour into the awaiting glass. This action produced just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with moderate retention, but it did not leave behind much in the way of lacing. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44) with cola highlights only at the edges. Nose was sweet all right, but it was more chocolaty than anything else. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was imprecise in that I could easily get chocolate and vanilla, but the strawberry was kind of lost and/or lacking in the mix. I have had it on-tap before & liked I better. I also see where there is a Bourbon-Bbl.-aged version & I would be willing to bet that it is pretty good. I was just feeling underwhelmed with this one. Finish was sweet, more chocolaty than anything else & definitely a dessert beer. YMMV.

Poured into a nonic pint glass.

The beer is the color of dark chocolate with an almost nitrogenated foamy tan head that hardly recedes at all. Lacing is random thick splotches and squiggly lines of heavy foam. The aroma has subtle hints of strawberry fruitiness but is otherwise dominated by a lot of sucrose sugar. The taste is slightly more defined as it starts out sweet and sugary, followed by a faint strawberry note. Chocolate emerges before finishing with with a sugary sweet cream flavor. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy, very smooth.

Overall, I wanted to like this a lot more, but the sugary sweetness blinded a lot of the other flavors. Still pretty unique though, definitely worth a shot, at least a single bottle like I bought.

I cannot believe I have not sat down to review this yet, as many times as I've had it.

Dark chocolate brown-black, with a thin wispy ring of head in THULSA DOOM.

Aroma of chocolate, chocolate ice cream, brownies, vanilla, frozen strawberries, strawberry syrup, caramel, slight metal.

Flavor of cheap chocolate ice cream sprinkled with coffee grounds, earthy roast malts, metallic milk, burnt caramel popcorn, more coffee.

Feel is semi-creamy, yet carbonated, roasty finish, it's just about right on the feel.

Overall, decent but nowhere near the goodness of Blueberry Maple. I like it but I don't love it. Would I buy again? Of course, I've had it several times. Won't blow your socks off though.

Solid black color, above average body, decent thick feel. Aroma was malted chocolate, vanilla, and a slight amount of strawberry. Taste was somewhat different, roasted malt forward. Followed by a mix of different flavors. A decent stout that delivered on the Neapolitan flavors, a very decent dessert beer

Very smooth dessert-type stout. Pours deep color with minimal head, low carbonation. Strong notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla, lighter notes of strawberry and malt. A little too heavy and sweet to drink more than 1-2 with dinner but is great for sipping and slowly enjoying. One of the better fruit-tasting stouts I’ve had.

Wonderful stout. The aroma is a mixture of roasted malt, dark cocoa and strawberry preserves, with some creamy vanilla/lactose. The flavor captures the Neapolitan ice cream flavors, rolling in waves of rich chocolate, sweet strawberry, and creamy vanilla. The feel is quite nice, with a semi-full, slick mouthfeel reminiscent of melting ice cream.
Saugatuck has hit the nail on the head, and whenever I'm in the mood for dessert I reach for this one.
