Bottle from klipper. Served in a Half Acre pint glass. Best before April 15th, 2013.

A - Dark tan foam settles to a thick cap, leaving behind plenty of lacing. Very dark brown with a hint of reddish transparency at the edges.

S - Actually smells like Neapolitan ice cream; notes of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, although there's a more synthetic vibe to the latter two. I'm not totally bothered by this, as the flavors in ice cream are also largely synthetic - if it were advertised as a strawberry stout I'd be expecting real berries. Some mild roast and caramel round things out

T - Taste doesn't have quite the same clarity of flavor as the aroma, although the 'faux' strawberry and vanilla are there if you look for them. It's a solid, sweet stout, but I'm not sure I'd guess Neapolitan without benefit of the aroma. A bit more roasted malts and grains, with a lightly bitter finish.

M - Medium-light body, a tad grainy and watery, with pleasant moderate-to-low carbonation. No alcohol presence, and avoids being overly sticky or viscous.

D - The best beer I've had so far from Saugatuck; evocative of the ice cream I had in my freezer during childhood (I always left behind the chocolate to be honest). Would drink this one again, although a six-pack might linger as it's a bit gimmicky. Delivers what it promises, but if you're against 'fake' flavors this might not be up your alley. All that being said, I had no problem with a 12oz bottle and I was up for another one afterward.

A - Dark chocolate brown with a slight red tint to it. Small milk chocolate layer of foam sits on top

S - Bitter chocolate that gives it a slight roasted aspect. There is also a nice creamy strawberry milk presence

T - Bitter espresso and chocolate up front. Slight strawberry as well as a slightly chalky vanilla. Overall, it's too bitter for my tastes and tastes slightly artificial.

M - Medium yet smooth and creamy body that goes well with the overall beer

O - Interesting beer that picks up the flavors of the ice cream. It smells just like the ice cream. The only knock I have is the chocolate is slightly bitter / overpowering and it has a slight chalk / artificial taste

Bottled 10/21/14. 12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours dark brown, almost black with light getting through. This one has ruby red hues and a small off-white head that disappears quick and doesn't leave much lacing or retention. The aromas have a sweet strawberry fragrance. The chocolate malts are there. Some blueberry. Some vanilla. It kind of smells artificial, but it still smells nice and is pretty unique. The flavors are definitely bittersweet. It starts off tart with the first few sips, but the tartness vanishes quickly. More strawberry and blueberry. Lots of roasty dark chocolate notes. Vanilla bean is there. Subtle coffee notes, especially in the finish. It has a nice bitterness in the finish as well. It borderlines having an artificial taste up front, but this one has a nice finish to it. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation. Very smooth and easy drinking. It becomes even more enjoyable as it warms.

This starts off rough around the edges at first, but everything basically comes together at the end. This is a unique beer to say the least. I went into this thinking I would love it, but I ended up just liking it. It even had moments when I was questioning it, but I give them credit for this one. They basically deliver exactly what they advertised. It ultimately reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream.

I approached this thinking that it was a gimmick beer that would disappoint, but it is actually quite good. It is a dark brown, nearly black color with a thick tan head. The aroma is of chocolate and strawberries, and the taste is just like Neapolitan ice cream. Creamy, smooth, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla...not overly sweet, but thick and satisfying. Very nice.

Poured out of a 12 oz. bottle. I've had this guy in a closet for about 2 months. Kept at around 70 degrees.

Look: (head) quickly dissipating head with moderate lacing. One inch or so of beige/creamy brown head.
The beer itself is dark black.

Smell: Sweet maple, ice cream, milk, chocolate, vanilla, berries. (go figure)

Taste: Roasty-Coffee with berries, Sweet almost like a soda, Chocolate mid to late taste, Light Chocolate bitterness. Very sweet.

Feel: A mix of creamy and syrupy. medium/full bodied. lightly carbonated.

Overall: They got rather close to a Neapolitan tasting beer. I didn't get very much separation of flavor. You can pick out the different components but they tend to bleed together. I like the creamy mouth feel with chocolaty/coffee/roasty malt flavor. vanilla and berries are a very nice compliment. Similar to drinking a soda with the sweetness.

Neapolitan Milk Stout

Look: completely black with a tan head that dissapates to a tiny ring.
Nose: The smell on this one is very strawberry rich. The strawberries was about all I was smelling with a bit of candy sugary feel to it.
Taste: It tastes like strawberry first, chocolate second and some milky flavors along with all the typical stout flavors, slight coffee notes.
Feel: It is a nice full bodied and extremely smooth stout.
Overall: I absolutely loved this beer. I love Neapolitan ice cream and I also love stouts and this is a good combination of all of those flavors. The alcohol is hidden very well.

On tap at the Oak. Pours a black, black color with dark brown highlights only around the outer edges of the beer. Nitro tap gives a fine bubbled head, tan and creamy, moderate lace. Aroma full of coffee with cream and sugar; burnt caramel and brown sugar, roasted, sweet malt, and a light touch of milk chocolate. The mouth is slick and silky, but a little bit thinner than I was expecting; roasty and wet up front, sweet cream, hints of french vanilla and melted milk chocolate. Iced coffee comes to mind, packed with cream and sugar. Some faint dark fruit sweetness; light grapes and ripe, juicy plum. The sweetness of the malt is apparent and just slightly outside of the "almost too much" area. Hope profile is small, slightly ashy and floral; I think a stronger hop bitterness would help the balance a little bit. Chocolatey, sweet aftertaste.

Not bad, but I wonder what this would be like with a little more hop presence. The nitro tap gave a nice, creamy head but the beer wasn't quite as robust as I would have liked. Overall, a decent beer, but something I probably won't revisit.

A - Pours very dark brown with two fingers of brown head. Head has very good retention and leaves some good lacing behind.

S - Strawberry is the first aroma to jump out at me, quickly followed by vanilla and then a big chocolate presence. Chocolate has some semi-sett and bittersweet elements to it. Definitely seems like they got what they were going for here.

T - Chocolate leads of the taste, with an interesting hop presence and a bite of carbonation. Strawberry and vanilla are more in the background of the taste compared to the smell, but they are there. Finishes with a bitter chocolate taste.

M - Medium mouthfeel with some creaminess, some lively carbonation and finishing with some dry bitterness.

O - This was pretty enjoyable, all of the neapolitan elements come together pretty well. Not something I would want very often, but I would have this again.

12oz bottle, no date. Pours brown with a medium sized khaki head. Smells strongly of strawberry and vanilla with some roasted malt and cocoa. The taste is pretty standard with more roasted malt, but has added flavors of strawberry, cocoa, vanilla, and lactose. Below average body and medium carbonation. Somewhat creamy, but not as much as other milk stouts. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this beer and it reminded me of the ice cream.

Decent stout not as deep full flavor as I thought.
