On tap at Bonds Tavern in West Orange. Pours a jet black ebony hue with moderate frothing. Candied aroma replete with hints of chocolate and molasses. Similar overall flavor profile.

Disappointing look all together but not horrible. Fantastic taste and aroma, just as advertised with notes of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. Interesting, unique, and overall good beer!

Dark pour, not much head. Aroma is exactly as advertised...Neapolitan, interesting. Taste is same, very interesting! Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry all present and accounted for. Sweet and milky, almost need to scoop it into the glass. Great dessert beer, could never drink more than one at a time.

When you pour this, it is immediately disappointing, but as soon as the aroma hits you, bam, you know this is what was advertised.

The look is pretty flat, but nicely clear dark with tiny bubbles. The aroma is of strawberries, chocolate (just barely) and vanilla. Who'd a thunk the best use of that combo ever was in beer (ale, of course).

They don't say it is for breakfast, but that seems to be working fine. Very highly recommended.

Pours a dark chocolate body with decent enough off white head
Aroma is actually Neopolitan
Strawberry chocolate
You've got that in flavour with a milky edge

Pours black with a tan head. The aroma is very typical for a stout but with the added element of strawberry (albeit very faint). The taste is sweeter than I was expecting (for once a Sweet Stout that is actually sweet!) and once more the strawberry is there. A very interesting and enjoyable beer.

I had this on draught in a restaurant. It was served in a pint glass probably colder than it should have been. It pours almost black with dark walnut hues, and a thin, khaki-colored head and lacing that dissipated quickly (probably due to the serving temperature). The smell featured chocolate, lactose, vanilla, and a slight fruitiness from the strawberry. It is quite sweet with the most noticeable taste being the strawberry. There is also a hint of vanilla. The chocolate was actually more subdued than I anticipated. For a stout, it is rather thin in body, with light carbonation, and a fairly low ABV of 6% that allows for easy drinking. My biggest constructive criticism is that it's awfully sweet. It could stand some additional tartness in the strawberry and some more bitterness in the chocolate. All that said, it's interesting and pleasant despite being a touch gimmicky.

Picked this up in a 12 pack stout mix pack. Perfect for us! Anyway, definitely get the vanilla and strawberry notes as advertised. This is an enjoyable beer and definitely would choose again.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep black color with a one-finger creamy khaki colored head that has good retention and leaves some lacing behind

S- smells of roasted malt and light char, with a milky vanilla sweetness. Undertones of strawberry & chocolate

T- milky sweet & sugary up front with strong notes of vanilla cream. Mid-palate gives a kick of sweet strawberry before finishing with sweet chocolate and charred malt. Lingers of strawberry and vanilla

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that finishes creamy

O- as advertised and quite tasty, would definitely pick this up again

Pours dark with a caramel head on top that goes away quickly. Smell is very sweet, can make out vanilla. Taste was sweet like how it smelled but with hints of chocolate. Was a really good Sweet Stout.

This was pretty nice surprise. Not everyone could satisfactory add strawberry taste to stout, but these Michigan guys tried - and succeeded! I'm looking forward, expecting new bold experiments from Saugatuck.

Light porter compared to most. Light flavors. Not heavy on on overtone of flavor. Definitely can taste hints of "Neapolitan" ice cream flavor. Not creamy at all though on consistentcy.

The nicest part of this beer is the unique strawberry and vanilla crossed notes, mixed with the chocolate flavours and coffee notes. An interesting take on a stout, a milk stout no less.

Unique and surprisingly good stout. It's well balanced and the hints of strawberry come out at the end, just strong enough to taste but not at all overbearing. Would be a great dessert beer.

Pint glass at Stone Grille & Taphouse in York PA. Nitro, so it was quite smooth. Dark, oily black with a thin tan head. Initial impression is strawberry and chocolate, with a hint of coffee. Medium mouthfeel - a little thin for a stout. Slightly sweet, strawberry finish. Overall, there was too much strawberry and not enough stout for my tastes.

I approached this thinking that it was a gimmick beer that would disappoint, but it is actually quite good. It is a dark brown, nearly black color with a thick tan head. The aroma is of chocolate and strawberries, and the taste is just like Neapolitan ice cream. Creamy, smooth, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla...not overly sweet, but thick and satisfying. Very nice.

For a low ABV stout it's actually not a thin stout. What's interesting about this beer is that the strawberry is the predominant ingredient in the nose. I also picked up slight notes of chocolate. The taste is very interesting, instead of a roasted chocolate stout it tastes like a strawberry charleston chew, very pleasant if you're looking for a sweeter stout. I had this in tap and when I found a six pack I picked it up without hesitation. Know what you're getting into with this which is a novelty stout!

Big strawberry aroma and flavor but it's not off putting. If you bought this you knew what to expect given the name. Kudos to Saugatuck for characterizing strawberry so well in a stout.

Saugatuck Brewing Company
Neapolitan Milk Stout

Look: completely black with a tan head that dissapates to a tiny ring.
Nose: The smell on this one is very strawberry rich. The strawberries was about all I was smelling with a bit of candy sugary feel to it.
Taste: It tastes like strawberry first, chocolate second and some milky flavors along with all the typical stout flavors, slight coffee notes.
Feel: It is a nice full bodied and extremely smooth stout.
Overall: I absolutely loved this beer. I love Neapolitan ice cream and I also love stouts and this is a good combination of all of those flavors. The alcohol is hidden very well.

Received in a trade. Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave a creamy halo.

S - Aromas of big strawberry notes, freeze dried strawberries mixed with strawberry jam, nice chocolaty notes, very faint vanilla.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, nice chocolate, almost syrupy, light vanilla, the strawberries are not quite as good as the nose. They're not quite as fresh taste, maybe a bit too sticky.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, touch on the thin side.

O - Overall this is a solid milk stout, the nose is really really nice.

Light fluffy fizzY head fades quickly, nice legs, super dark almost black color.

Nose loaded with strawberry, strawberry jam, big candied jelly jammy strawberry cake topping, with creamy chocolate pudding, maybe some background vanilla, like freeze dried astronaut neo ice cream, touch porter.

Taste us mixed, a strawberry flavor but dried freezer burnt stale strawberry, little sweet jam, candied dried strawberry, artificial strawberry, little bitter roast and porter creamy flavor, mild stout creamy, touch vanilla, little bitter earthy hop and roast. Finish dried lactose milk stout, more fake and freeze dried strawberry, little earthy vanilla.

Mouth is med bod, little creamy decent carb.

Overall ok, nose was nice, strawberry taste was icky, otherwise a decent beer.

Had on nitro tap at Chester V's in Oshkosh, WI. Nitro probably inhibits the nose that this has to have in bottle. No doubt a sweet stout, but delivers incredibly well. It truly has notes and flavors of Neapolitan ice cream. Recommended.

Sampled this on nitro tap.

Pours a dark brown color with ruby edges. Once everything settled there was about a finger of head. The nose is quite bland. The flavor profile is very sweet (even considering the style) and the mouthfeel is syrupy.

Dark brown, nearly black, body, foamed milk-looking tan head, slightly course. All of this is somewhat ruined by the acknowledgement of caramel color being added. Nose is sweet, with chocolate and overly sugary strawberry. Taste is primarily candied, syrupy fake strawberry, artificial milk chocolate, chemical aftertaste, and mild vanilla. One taste is pretty sweet but also pretty tasty, then comes the retro-olfaction, where the chemical components emerge, alongside wet granite/soil. Very off-putting. Body is medium weight, too highly carbonated for the style.
I liked this beer a lot my first few exposures, but the more I taste it the more the artificial nature of it stands out to me. The chemical, nasty aftertaste is too powerful to ignore, despite the pretty tasty initial sip. I wonder if this would be possible to produce using real ingredients? I like where the brewer's head is at, but the actual product took too many shortcuts.
