Pours a very nice cola brown with some amber hues in the light. A full oatmeal head present itself and retains a one finger depth. Sheets of lacing are left behind. Nose is nutty, smoky, roasted malt, some lemon rind, and a touch of subtle vanilla. Taste follows suit with a smoked almond profile followed by an overtoasted piece of raisin toast. Feel is soft, velvety, and delicately mouth coating. Overall, I’m very happy with this. Maybe as much as I’ve ever been with a beer from Saugatuck.

Bonfire Brown. 12 oz can from Saugatuck Brewing. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Received from @Whyteboar in NBW BIF #16. Reviewed 14/12/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of can “04/01/22”. Served at 45.8 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 49.6 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), muddy and opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, red amber and clear, once the chill haze disperses.
Head – Average (Maximum 1.2 cm, aggressive center pour), beige, high density with a rocky top, quickly diminishing to a 0.1 – 0.2 cm crown with a rocky island.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Weak toasted malt, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.75 – Flavor follows the nose – slightly bitter toasted malt with a bit of nuttiness, maybe a ghostly chocolate presence, no hops, no yeast. No ethanol (5.5 % ABV as marked on label) aroma or taste. No gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Decent brown ale but seems a bit thin in the mouth.

Poured from a can. Brown in color with a tan head. Smells of malt, grain but mostly get a boozy smell. Not as much of a boozy hit in the flavor, more grain and malty with hints of sweetness. Enjoyable

Canned on 6/23/2021. Poured into a tulip glass. It pours a dark cherry-magenta color with a fairly thick and creamy light mocha-colored head and sticky lacing. It's nose features roasted malt, buttered brown bread, and earthy nuts. The taste opens roasty and fairly bitter. There is a sweet malt background with bitter, charred nuts, and a hint of burnt coffee, chocolate, and tobacco smoke. Other reviewers have noted a thin mouth feel but I find it pleasantly creamy with low/moderate carbonation. And it's very drinkable at 5.5% ABV. Overall, Bonfire Brown is an enjoyable American Brown Ale. It's not at the level of Founders Underground Brown or Sumatra Brown or Dogfish Palo Santo Marron but I wouldn't turn down another opportunity to drink it. It would pair well with most any pub cuisine and is appropriate for casual drinking year round.
