Hazy amber with a generous amount of head. The smell is funky and dank, with notes of grapefruit and papaya. Bitter, salty and spicy taste, with the alcohol being a bit too present in the mix. Sticky mouthfeel with a bitter and alcoholic aftertaste.

Enjoyed this on tap at the Local Option in Chicago, IL - poured into a 10oz snifter.

First off....wow do they play EXTREMELY loud 'Death' metal at the Local Option. It is just about unbearable. But enough of that...

short review

A - great white head. Solid golden color. Looks thick. Hazy.

S - the normal citrus. nothing up and beyond. hoping for more sweetness.

T - Very bitter. that is sharp. triple hops and 10ABVs will do that i suppose.

M - no notes on this.

O - I really like it. Great for the hop heads. Not as sweet as you would hope tho.

I had this beer before, but every time that I enjoyed it I forgot to review it. So lets do it this time.

A - A deep orange brown fluid which is a bit hazy. The beer is rather cold and I think that is the reason why there isn't much of a head forming. Normally there is more foam forming than in this case.

S - Ripe sweet peaches and oranges, also some mango in the back. Overall a lovely smell.

T - A hop fest on my palate! Sweet upfront and lots of taste; mango, peaches, pineapple. The balance and complexity is very good in this beer.

M - A soft carbonated beer with a nice creamy feeling. The bitterness doesn't linger around very long, this is very nicely done. The body is full, rich and very complex and there is hardly any alcohol to be discovered.

O - In my memory this beer was even better, but it is nevertheless very smooth en delicious. I think this is the best beer Kees Bubberman made so far.

Ken's bottle. Peachy coloured body with a big white head, leaves significant lace. A wierd vegetable smell, a little like eggs. A good bitterness, though vegetable notes. Some carbonation in the finish. The finish is very long. This is big and hoppy.

Pours copper with a small, dense head.
Nose shows loads of sweet rich caramel malt with some resinous and piny hops underneath.
Intense flavours. A lot more malt but the hops are more prominent overall. Big piny notes alongside a whack of hot alcohol.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy orangey color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention. Aroma consists of citrus and bitter hops with sweet malt backbone. Taste is a mix between some overly sweet malt base with notes of citrus and bitter hops though not as powerful as expected. Body is quite full with some low carbonation and no apparent alcohol. This one fell a bit short with an overly sweet body, low carbonation and not enough dry hops.

Looks: caramel/tan with thick foam
Smell: piney hops, alcohol, caramelized sugar, yeast
Taste: caramel malt, caramelized sugar, piney hop flavor, grape-fruit hop bitterness. First few sips, before my palate got adjusted, the beer seemed to accentuate caramel sugar. After few sips, hops starts to play dominant role, and american-hop flavor and bitterness start to shine.
Feel: a bit chewy. probably due to high gravity, but this is not too heavy
Overall: a solid sipper. would fit well into american barley wine category

The beer is copper in color with little foam head on top of it. Lots of floaties in there. The aroma is dominated by the hops. Tropical fruits with pines in the back. A good dose of malts in there, which makes this beer very thick in the mouth. The beer is bitter on the finish and the bitterness install itself quite strongly... slowly but certainly. The alcohol is well hidden. This is a complex beer. Chewy too. As the beer warms up, I notice some roasted bread or even more french toasts notes in the aroma.

A very good beer.

Review from 5/2011 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a cloudy medium orange amber. Light half finger head and lacing. Pleasant light fruit, malt, citrus and mild hop aroma. Starts with malt and light fruit; creamy. Malt and citrus middle and lingering, pleasant, lingering hop bitterness and citrus in finish. An interesting, somewhat understated IPA. Not much in the way of aromatic hops, but more like a aged barley wine with residual hop bitterness at the finish. Worth a revisit.

33 cl. bottle, bb june 2013. I guess it's a very recent bottling.
Tripel IPA.

Smell is actually very delicate. It's like IPA, obviously, but not extreme dominant like most IPA's.
Taste is more like the real stuff. Very bitter, spicy bite.
The alcohol is not given a chance, except to warm your inside slowly. Very nice experience, as usual.

Good beer. Perhaps a bit over the top.

A: The beer is copper in color and very cloudy so you can't see through it. It poured with a finger high beige head that quickly died down and left lacy patterns of bubbles floating on the surface.
S: There are moderate aromas of grapefruit hops in the nose.
T: From start to finish, there's a strong amount of bitterness in the overall taste, yet this is balanced enough by the underlying malts so it isn't completely overpowering. There are flavors of grapefruits and hints of apples, malty sweetness and yeast.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very thick on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. The finish is rather dry and also has some warming from the alcohol.
D: The alcohol is well hidden from the smell and taste so drinking this beer isn't too difficult as long as you can handle the strong amount of bitterness. This is definitely a beer that should be sipped given its strength.
