Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.75%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our spring seasonal offering brewed with 100 percent positive vibrations and single-hopped with Citra hops. The presence of the Citra hop is elevated by a clean fermenting lager yeast that allows the subtle Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts to lay a crisp, bready foundation. The citrus and tropical fruit character of the Citra hop comes from kettle additions followed by a huge dose of ‘em again in the fermenter.

12oz bottle with a born on date of 2-14-14, $9.99 six pack at Wegmans in Downingtown, PA.

A - Pours a very pale straw color, with some hazy lemony highlights to it. A dense, rocky 3 finger head sits atop the brew with excellent retention and generous patches of sticky lace.

S - Herbal fresh cut grass and sweet tropical/citrus fruits pop in the nose quite prominently; pineapple, lemon pith, orange juice, grapefruit rind. Some sweet bready malt and slight grain keep a low profile but are noticeable. Remarkably clean smelling beer, with the Citra stealing the show. Very prominent, slightly dank hop smell.

T/M - Starts off sweet, with crackery malt, peach, and clementines, before ripe, juicy pineapple and lemon pith take over with some earthy grassy notes, certainly the dominating flavors. A slightly tart dark berry note also makes an appearance, typical of Citra for my palate. Finishes clean and dry, with some moderate grapefruit bitterness and sweet stone fruit. Refreshing yet creamy, with a gentle rolling carbonation that leaves me wanting another sip each time I put the glass down. Strikes a terrific balance between drinkability and enough flavor to savor.

O - I remember when I first had this beer I was pretty blown away, and my admiration for it remains several weeks and a couple six packs later. Just a super clean lager that has been beautifully hopped with one of my favorite varietals. After this, Kind Ryed and Double Dose, Otter Creek has really been batting a thousand lately. By far my favorite IPL, and in fact better than a lot of IPAs out there, this gets a perfect 5 from me (my first and so far only) because I just don't see how anyone could possibly improve upon it, although admittedly the playing field seems to be rather small right now.

Bought a case at local distributer for $20.99 - unbelievable bargain. Drinks like a hoppy pale ale with a great citrus nose and taste. At 5.4 ABV it is like an incredibly tasty session IPA, a rare find indeed. Get it while it lasts!

Pours a medium golden orange with a white foam that laces well. The aroma is bright with citrus being the standout. The taste has a grapefruit, unripe clementine orange flavor that is quite nice. Fair bitterness but this one is more quenching than palate-scorching. Medium bodied, well carbonated brew. Very nice product all in all. Reinventing the style, and it's delicious.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 5.75% abv.

Appearance- Dull, golden yellow with a fluffy two finger head. A good bit of haze to it.

Smell- Citrus aroma, with fresh orange peel. Sweet caramel malt as well.

Taste- Has a herbal citrus spiciness to it right from the start. The sweet, bready malt arent detected til midway in the flavor profile. Citrus, even with some pine and grapefruit on the back end, leave with quite a bitter finish.

Mouthfeel- Thin to medium and very crisp. Dry finish.

Overall- One hoppy lager here! The use of citra hops was more than clear. Could have used a bit more malt additions though for balance. Different though. Very sessionable as well.

From bottle into tulip. Light gold with a rocky head, good retention and lacing.

S - lies, citrus, dry florals, lots of dry pungent citrus notes with some dank notes, but overall its bright and fairly zesty. Clean malt in the back.

T - lemons, citrus, limes, botanicals, florals and some restrained fruitiness, emerging skunky malt notes, burlap ect. Dry Grapefruit, mostly hoppy citra notes but some of the weird aspects and sour foul notes creep in.

T - has a promising start, grapefruit and limes, clean pilz malts, understated malt profile, clean and bready, with dry citrus and some earthier undertones coating the palate. Grapefruit, floral tones, leading to a subtle drying finish.

M - light, moderate carbonation, easy drinking body, quite dry actually, decently full on the palate but it is drying throughout and gets more so to the finish, which isnt especially clean and leaves a dry floral/lime aftertaste.

Maybe I'm missing all the hoopla on this, certainly an attractive looking beer. The flavour profile is tasty and flavourful, easy to knock back a couple on a warm afternoon, but I would sooner move on to something with a bit more to it and going on. I notice some of the citra off-flavours on this creeping into the palate, the slightly 'cat-piss' note, and overall it comes across as fairly standard. A good lager offering and with a nice hop charge, but its not especially crisp and the hops seem muddled and catty.

Iam really digging the "IPL' style I have to say.Pours a clear dull light golden with a lemon tinge to it,a full two finger bone white clingy head atop,a great pour. The aromas are just dripping with citra goodness, the grapefruit and fresh cut grass is just jumping out at me,a bit of lemon oil is also thrown in to the hoppy mix.Citrusy oily hops upfront on the palate with a nice crisp note in the finish, the hops don't really punch you in the face they just linger nicely.Probably the best of the style I have had to date,a great hopped up lager beer.

This was a great sampler pack; I've enjoyed all four beers.
This particular beer is a hazy gold color with a small white head and a bit of lace.
Very citrusy.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Massive dense and rocky head, great stickage on the glass. Big citrus nose full of blood orange zest, passion fruit and lime pith ... some cracker-like maltiness within. Longer bitter but balanced bite from the hops, full on citrus flavor hits the palate sip after sip. Moderate body keeps things here real drinkable. Mild tobacco and tea tone in the hop flavor, dried grassy graininess opens up in the end.

They hit the bull's eye here, so damn drinkable with a very well rounded Citra hop character that does not even get catty ... not that a touch of that would be a bad thing.

Citra Mantra was good, but it wasn't my favorite. It may not be for me, but I like most of otter creeks stuff.
