Style: American Pale Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.75%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our spring seasonal offering brewed with 100 percent positive vibrations and single-hopped with Citra hops. The presence of the Citra hop is elevated by a clean fermenting lager yeast that allows the subtle Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts to lay a crisp, bready foundation. The citrus and tropical fruit character of the Citra hop comes from kettle additions followed by a huge dose of ‘em again in the fermenter.

Shorty review. Undated bottle. Ginormous head with lots of sticky lace. Uh oh. Pale gold. Take a sniff. Yup, citra hops have faded out and it's all Pils and other malts now. Taste is a little bit better, as the malts predominate but some of the citra remains and you get some grapefruit, mango, and lime. Malts are dead-on for a lager, though; this is better than a malted-over IPA. More medium of a mouthfeel than you might expect, medium carbonation, balance off. Probably is better fresh or on tap.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The aroma is sweet bready malts and citrusy/grassy hops. The taste is bursting with crisp flavor, a lot of sweet pale malts up front and citrusy hops (bitter grapefruit and lime zest most notably) in the finish.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Kiabacca glass. Bottled 020316.
4/4.5/4.25/3.75/4
A: Pours with two fingers of head above an effervescent clear-pale copper-gold liquid.
S: Bursting at the veritable seams with pineapple and lush tropical fruit. Almost oversweet, with a mild but welcome vegetation at the end.
T/M: Delicious, fruity pale ale. But let's be real -- there's basically no way I wasn't gonna like a 100% Citra beer. Wish I'd caught this one sooner; it seems to be fading around the edges. Very trouble, full-bodied, relaxing. Good sipper.
O: Yum. Will buy again next spring.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy orange color with a full finger of thick foam that coats the glass nicely as it recedes. Aroma is full of delicious citrusy hops... smells great.

Flavor has a huge dank bitterness. Almost skunky. Strong lingering bitterness. I did not expect this. Maybe I have a bad bottle but the bitterness is completely overpowering, and I am an IPA lover.

I'll rereview if the other bottles in this 6'er are better, but I can barely tolerate this beer. It smelled great! Not sure what is going on here exactly.

Interesting beer that defies easy categorization. Deliciously crisp and bitter. Way better than your average lager. Or your average Pils for that matter.
