My first oatmeal stout, but I’ve had quite a few regular old stouts. Pours a dark dream, a proper black, though the yellow brown head wouldn’t appear no matter how much distance I put between the mug and the beer. I usually have a difficult time getting any sort of distinct smell from beer, but this particular brew drew me in with the smell of roast, almost burnt coffee. Taste is marvelous, thick and complex. I detect chocolate, coffee, hops, oatmeal and other indeterminate tastes all intermingling together. Carbonation is subtle and subdued. This beer would go great with a real hearty meal, like steak and potatoes. Easy to finish and easy to drink, a beer I would highly recommend to most, and embellish on for organic food eating folk. And to think, I was never that great a fan of oatmeal!

This is a jet black brew with a nice brown/tan head of foam. The aromas are of roasted malts, oats, sweet hops, and slight alcohol. The taste is very roasted, yet sweet, with some nice hops on the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, just about perfect, IMO and the drinkability is good as well. A nice version of the style!

A dark delicious stoudt with traces of coffee and the obvious oatmeal. Very rich with a great taste followed by an even better aftertaste. This is a great beer to sit back and relax near a fire on a cold night. The people from Wolaver's created something special with this brew. With a tan head and a silky smooth look this beer goes down with a fizzy taste and a oaty finish. Great for any beer lover.

Dark with a nice head that grabs onto the glass nicely and has somewhat large bubbles. Nice roasted coffee in the nose.

Initial flavors of coffee and roasted malt but not overly sweet. There is a nice dry hop quality in the finish. The alcohol is a bit noticeable in the nose and in taste but not overpowering at all. Has a lingering hop finish that balances off the oat and malt side.

All together a solid stout. I would say it is not as rich, full bodied as say Samuel Smith oatmeal stout (I know that's a tough act to follow) but it does do a very good job.

Available fresh in CT so will be a go to oatmeal stout.

this one was fresh as hell: bottled 11.03.03. drank: 11.18.03. kudos to otter creek/wolaver's for continuously getting fresh beer to the market. the new wolaver's oatmeal stout pours a dark, dark brown to near black colour, with a slightly off-white, creamy head that leaves a nice stickiness on the glass. a sweet smell dominates here, with chocolate, coffee, oats and hops apparent. the taste is quite similar to the smell, with all of the aformentioned detected before a nice dry finish. the order that the flavours hit me seemed to be: chocolate to oat to earthy flavours to coffee to the dry hop finish. very nice. this one is silky smooth and creamy and quite easy to drink. a great oatmeal stout. easily recommended.

Fresh from the brewery ... the bottle poured a pitch black beer with a thick, creamy off-white head that settled into a wonderful laced head with a thick stick to the glass. No doubt the usage of rolled oats plays a big part in such head retention and perceived body.

Molasses, roasted grains and a bit of a lacto/dairy aroma in the background. Hint of hop spice.

Wonderfully complex malt profile upfront with more molasses, bitter chocolate, rough roasted twang, cold coffee. Smooth, even body. Thickish mouthfeel, but definitely not too heavy. Hops are just as complex (Hallertauer, Magnum and Cascade) with an nice citric bitter edge that amplifies the roasted character, plus an herbal spice character, touch of pine and an underlying raw leafy flavour and feel on the palate. The beer finishes dry with residual roasted flavours, char and grainy notes.

In my opinion, a spot on Oatmeal Stout, very solid, well-balanced, easy to drink, packed with character and a great addition to the Wolaver's line-up of organic brews.
