A - Deep brown (almost pure black) with some brown-amber hints to it. Tan head that dissipates quickly.

S - Sweet coffee and bitter chocolate. Undertones of molasses and roasted malts. I also get some notes of greek olives - yikes - but that might just be the bitter hops coming into play more I thought. Not picking up a lot of oatmeal, in fact.

T - Sweet and smooth, almost like drinking a coffee and Bailey's. Definitely get more of a oat flavor when it hits the tongue, and plenty of bittering hops at the end: think bitter dark chocolate again.

M - Just a touch of carbonation makes for a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. A bit thin for a stout, but that's what makes it drinkable.

O - This is a nice effort from Wolaver's - I'm a big fan of dark chocolate and smooth roasted coffee, so this appeals to my tastes. But more broadly, I think it is a good sample of this style - balanced sweet with a bitter finish gives plenty of complexity without leaving you full.

12 oz bottle was poured into a guiness pint glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a one finger mocha head. Dark brwon/pitch black by color with no clarity or signs of carbonation. The head has reduced to a thin layer. No lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: roasted coffee, sweet malts, chocolate, and some smokiness too. As the beer warmed up a litle bit, the oatmeal aroma produced by the oats was a little more noticeable.

Taste: All the aromas above are blended very nicely. The smokiness is actually not too much and blends good with the sweet malts and oats.

Mouthfeel: smooth, medium to high carbonation, a little dry and chewy, and medium to full bodied.

Overall: Not a bad Oatmeal Stout from Northern VT. Wish I had time over Thanksgiving weekend to take a trip. Not enough time and Windsor was only ten minutes away from where we staying. Will be looking for more of this in the future.

This beer poured very dark and opaque with a small and quickly-fading head. Nose is barley and coffee, and the beer is quite sweet, with the grapefruit zest of the hops coming forward and quite a lot of bitter chocolate flavor as well as a splash of cola towards the end. Coffee is not as apparent in the taste as it was in the nose, although the roasted barley is still there. The major drawback is that it's light on the tongue and not quite as creamy as I would like--a good light drinking stout when you're in the mood.

Poured an almost headless dark brown/black body. Minimal lacing of glass. Scent is sweet and unremarkable. Taste is sweetened coffee, bready. Could use a lot more bittering to balance. The taste is further a bit acrid and very thin feeling on the palate. To reduce it to one word : "Meh".
