Oh, wow, man. The CANQuest (tm) is Free-Flowing this afternoon, man. CAN you dig it? I'll have to get back to the Bottle Backlog shortly, but in the meantime, I'm sparkin' some righteous bud in this AIPA. Be cool, baby!

From the CAN: "A Mind-Melting India Pale Ale".

Mind-melting?!? Wow, man, this IPA melts in my mind, not in my hands! Although nothing happens until I get the Crack! going ... Baby, I was so turned on that I did an inverted Glug without any hesitation or aforethought! Wow, I got this really groovy foaming action, man, filling my glass with some righteous head. Dig it, I'm talking like two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white foam that hung around and acted like a temporary buzzkill, y'know? Color was a slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Hey, did that chick, Amber, blow the scene? Man, what a groovy doll! Nose smelled like somebody dumped my stash into the fermenter! Wow. Hey, man, you didn't REALLY dump my stash in the fermenter, did you? That would be a real bring-down. No? That's cool, man, but really, this beer's nose is really freaking me out, man. SOMEBODY'S stash went into its production, man, I swear it! Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was like a freaky ménage-a-trois of pine, citrus and tropical, all interwoven and writhing around on my tongue. Man, it was like that time we held an orgy and the fire department had to come by and untangle everybody at the end! I couldn't parse one flavor from another for more than a couple of seconds at a time. You sure that this brew is legal, man? This is what I imagine Bro. Woody's Take a Little Trip Pale Ale will be like. Psilocybin & MJ in the kettle, peyote & more MJ as a dry hop in the FV & administered by a guru through a baby dropper. Crack! Open, Drink Up, Drop Over! I think that the prevalent taste, however, was the tropical fruitiness. Man, this was some groovy stuff! The finish was dry, but not bitter. Instead, it left me with a mellow fruitiness that was less sweet than you might imagine. I imagine that I would want a good bit of these CANs in my cooler for that upcoming trip, dig?

Otter Creek has been knocking a ton of stuff out of the park recently, so I was eager to throw down the money for a six pack of this, their new year-round(!) IPA. With Citra, Galaxy and Falconer's Flight hops, Free Flow clocks in at a cool 60 IBUs and 6.0% ABV.

Pours a very heady, intense medium-hazy yet translucent golden color with a retentive head of bone-white foam that leaves some nice drippy lacing as it fades away slowly to a finger-and-a-half in my pint glass. The initial pour was bursting with bubbles, and though the size of the billowing head has since faded a bit, it's sticking around remarkably well. Altogether, this is a beautiful looking IPA with a nice sudsiness and a solid lace/head retention combo.

Nose is Galaxy-forward, with a big passionfruit, lime zest and tangerine hit upfront, followed by the catty dankness and medium-strong tropical fruit of Citra. Wow, this is very aromatic and complex. Slight pine needle/resin combined with almost a light berry-like aspect as well. Kind of raspberry like, almost? I get that kind of sharp, tangy yeast note that some other OC IPAs have had (Backseat Berner is definitely a good beer in its own right and also has this element) among the showings of citrus peel and grapefruit pithiness. Damn, this smells great!

This fails to let me down on the palate, as well, luckily! Upfront passionfruit and guava, lime peel/zest, grapefruit pith... mid-sip brings chalky oats and pine with a huge citrusy swallow following an intense, mouth-coating bitterness. Long, lingering bitterness and very smooth feel that drinks exceptionally well. This feels so incredibly well dialed-in... I can't help but be amazed with the things OC's been doing recently. That 25th Anniversary DIPL was incredible, too... this feels like a strict improvement on Backseat Berner, which was already a great beer. The price, lower ABV and canned format combined with the juicy, complex flavor make it a slightly better pick for me. High marks all around. Excellent!

As a Vermonter, I'm privileged to have regular access to some incredible IPAs (Heady Topper, Focal Banger, Sip of Sunshine, Hill Farmstead Edward, etc.). Otter Creek is one of Vermont's oldest microbreweries, but unlike Magic Hat (which has not evolved and failed when they attempt to) they have had quite a renaissance in the past few years.

Because it's such a well-know and ubiquitous brewery (i.e. something you can get at most grocery stores and gas stations here) it's easy to overlook the quality of their beers and pass them up for more prestigious, pricier beers from The Alchemist, Lawsons, Frost, Hill Farmstead, etc. To that with Free Flow IPA would be a big mistake.

I tried this one the first time by accident, when cans were the evening special at a local pub. I was expecting the usual watery lager + dry hopped brew, or a heavy malt with some awkward hop taste beer. Thankfully, I was so very wrong. I've always wanted a beer with a good balance of citra and galaxy hops that isn't overly boozy, but the closest I ever came to pulling that off was by carefully blending Lawson's Sip of Sunshine and their Super Session #2 like some mad scientist. I found exactly what I was looking for with Free Flow.

It's not my favorite single IPA (Hill Farmstead's Edward takes that crown) but it's a great alternative, and at $1.50 a can, it's unbelievably good for the price. If you're visiting my fine state, by all means wait in line to get some Heady Topper or Sip of Sunshine to take home. But while you're there, pick up some Free Flow as well. It doesn't have the name recognition, but I think it'll quickly become one of your favorites.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 10/10/16. Pours a hazy orange with a solid one inch sticky white head that leaves loads of lace behind.

Smell is guava, grapefruit rind, pine, and a little tangerine.

Taste follows more tangerine than the nose would lead, guava, and a healthy bitter shot of piney grapefruit that hangs on the tongue long after each sip.

Mouthfeel is medium, very nice amount of carbonation, definitely dry, and very drinkable, but it seems bigger than 6% ABV with 60 IBUS.

Overall this is really, really good. Maybe even better than Back Seat Burner. Like a West Coast IPA, with a little Vermont mixed in.

12 oz. Bottle

A lively, slightly hazy white golden color. A fine white foam is airy but rocky with nice lace and minimal covering. Nice sticky lace and plenty of foam cover.

The aroma has a peppery orange peel, herbal sourness, earthy grains and golden wheat and tangy fruit mix. A very earthy toned citrusy nose. Very nice!!!

A very, very clean and crisp mouthfeel and flavor. Light but slightly honey sweet, grainy and earthy malt complexity that simply rocks. The hops come across much like the aroma, citrus fruits with black pepper, crisp And dry toned wheat and grains, herbal and zippy .....a very unique and interesting hop flavor. Tge balance of both worlds is outta sight!! Very light, jazzy and crispy feel and overall effect. Excellent complexity of both the malt and hop aspects.

A big wow.

L: Pours a hazy yellow with a finger of white head.

S: Pineapple. Loads of pineapple.

T: Starts out pineapple then finishes with a pine bitterness. This increases as it warms.

F: Medium body moderate carbonation.

O: I expected this to be decent, but wow, this was top notch. I will seek this out regularly.

L: Hazy and almost opaque gold with a creamy white head. Good retention, and lots of lacing.

S: Bright and juicy yellow grapefruit, orange zest, peach and pineapple, some pine and a light hint of dankness.

T: Lots of white grapefruit juice upfront. Carries some sourness like actual grapefruit. Some orange peel bitterness, soft and creamy white bread malt, and some nice peach, pineapple, and honeydew melon. Moderately bitter with sticky resins and a lingering citrus pith flavor, and a touch of pine sap.

F: Medium, well-carbonated, oily and somewhat creamy; smooth. Very lightly dry.

O: A really nice, flavorful lower abv IPA. A great drink for the average hophead.

A deep, orange, gold beer with a white head that leaves scattered lacing behind. The aroma has some onion, citrus and a big dose of pine. The taste is lightly sweet with some overripe oranges and grapefruits that finishes with an aggressive pine bitterness. Pretty solid and tasty IPA.

One of my favorite go to IPAs. It is truly delicious in terms of loads of mosaic hops flavors and balancing bitterness. Mild yeast aftertaste and lingering finish. Truly delicious!

Came back and loved this. So fresh.
I'm pleased to rate Otter Creek as my favorite Vermont Craft, and as under-rated. (I’ve not tasted yet!)
A) pours a slightly hazed, oated, orange-bright, amber, with a finger head, and tons of lacing.
S) Powerful filled with zesty pine, dank grass, hemp, citrus- orange and grapefruit rind.
T) Smoothly follows the smell - true to its name - Free Flow - it goes down easy with all the fruit and dank hemp and touched by the peppery, hempy bitterness that lingers.
F) Feel is medium bodied, crisp, juicy, with a tingly cleansing carbonation & finish.

Overall, it's a west coast IPA made in Vermont, that competes well with Sculpin etc at better prices and fresher can dates.

Light golden brew, fairly clear and lively, with a decent amount of white head. The aroma is peppery, green, and a touch fruity. Galaxy hops scream at you in a way only they can. The palate is very similar, and the incredible hop load is really showcased atop an otherwise bland and dry biscuity malt base. Pine resin, grapefruit and orange, pepper and spice, leafy herbs; it's like sucking straight from the bine. Very lively and drinkable mouthfeel, leaning toward an APA.

OCB is on a roll--producing amazing beers at fair prices. Backseat Berner was killer, but this is fruitier, and less astringent, even better for daily consumption. 6.0 is a good spot to settle at

12 oz can....12/22/17

Hazed up , NEIPA kinda pour, leaves nice looking fine lacing.

Mild resiny pineapple infused nose.

Smooth, lighter, easy drinking and better the respectable take on the style...worthy every day kinda sessionable brew. One of the best offerings I've had from Otter Creek BC
