Otter Creek has an impressive lineup of brews and this beer is just a continuance of that. Pours a nice brown and there was a thick head at first which has fallen to just a ring around the edge. The smell has hints of raisens, molasses, and brown sugar. The taste is like a winter warmer crossed with a brown ale. The alcohol behaves itself for the most part. Just a hint of the abv as it warms. The mouthfeel is qquite smooth and this beer is pleasant to drink. The best of the World Tour beers I have had yet. Do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle of this if you get the chance. Otter Creek brews some nice beers and the prices aren't too bad. $3-$3.50 range for these speacial bombers.

Poured from a 22-ounce bomber into a 3 oz. Sam Adams sampler.

A: Poured a hazy, brownish amber color with a thin fizzy head of off-white foam. Little lacing.

S: A little caramel and toffee sweetness with hints of brown sugar, plum and cinnamon.

T: Semisweet and sugary grains up front with faint berry and muted raisin flavors.

M: Fairly crisp and sweet with a slight chewy feel.

D: Not a bad winter brew, though some of the typical spiciness I would have hoped to find. Worth a shot if you can find some.

A deep, cloudy brown rust color with a fair light tan head and good lacing. The aroma offers nice roasted malt and some woodsy nut. The first taste comes on with grainy malt and some raisin. Somewhat thin bodied with some very light but spritzy carbonation. This immediately reminds me of a diluted version of Otter's wee heavy which I liked much more. But this is reasonably tasty, drinkable and well worth a try.

Pours a sort of murky, slightly hazy brown/dark amber color with a fairly thick white head. Looks like a homebrew...

Smell is quite toasty, a bit of coffee, some caramel, brown sugar and honey. It actually sort of reminds me of a combination of a honey cough drop and a fresh cup of coffee. I also catch a faint whiff of alcohol at the end.

Tastes very bready and biscuity. Very malty, almost like a scotch ale, very sweet and sugary in the finish. Its a bit thin in mouthfeel but very easy to drink.

I'll be very honest, this is not very fresh so I definitely think this beer has been changing a bit for the worse in the bottle. Nonetheless, not a bad a beer and probably a good to very good beer when it was fresh quite a bit ago.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a bright coppery red color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of caramelized malts, brown sugar, nuts, some dark fruit and a touch of hops.

T: The taste is pretty sweet with flavors of caramel, toffee, dark fruits and nuts. The malt character is very hearty and there's a touch of smokiness to it. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a little balance. The after-taste is sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is sticky.

D: Flavorful, goes down easily, slightly filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a good beer to drink for a while if you're in the mood for a sweet and decently strong brown ale.

I purchased this beer as part of an Otter Creek gift package. I was fortunate enough to try this before they stopped brewing it, at least for now.

Appearance - Pours a brown color with an off white soapy head. It is thick in appearance just like their Scotch ale.

Smell - This beer is relatively clean to the nose. I get some hints of caramel but that's about it.

Taste - Taste is all malts up front with a very, very faint hint of hops in the background. There are some caramel notes with what I detected to be a slight cocoa aftertaste.

Mouth feel - This beer is thick with moderate carbonation.

Drink ability - For what this beer is, I am honestly surprised at how drinkable it is. I was expecting it to be much heavier given the appearance and the ABV. With an ABV of 7.50 the alcohol was very well masked. I would definitely have another one.

L: Pours a nice amber-brown color with a medium sized and medium bodied tan colored head that laces the glass nicely as it fades.
S: Smells of sweet roasted malts, hints of vinous fruits, and a hint of sweetness from some spices perhaps.
T: Nice roasted malt bill under some cinnamon mixed with vinous fruit taste, then some caramel flavor, and a hint of earthy hops to finish.
M: Full bodied, warming, sweet, right amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable, liked this one a lot.

I've been wanting to track this one down for some time now. Big thanks to jaxon53 and the BA Secret Santa for this one.

22 oz bottle poured into a Corsendonk tulip. Tan head stands a quarter inch and recedes to a film lace. Spots of lacing on the glass. The real beauty of this beer is in the color. Rich dark chestnut brown. Very warm and inviting color.

Smell has a rich dark malt character with woody features. Slightly nutty and sweet. Taste has a dark sweetness to it. Brown sugar, a bit of maple syrup. Dark spices of ginger and cinnamon.

Mouthfeel is thick, though goes does slick. Very warming and enjoyable on a cold winter night.

Yet another unique and intriguing offering from the Otter Creek World Tour series. This one is a British style Old Ale and it poured out of the bomber a deep brown color with a nice tan head. Good retention formed a small cap and laced well throughout the sample. Aromas of caramel malt and chocolate malts with some earthiness. Perfectly representative of the flavors that were mostly sweet malts balanced with some piney hops that became a little more pronounced near room temperature. Dried fruits and some bread, the hops provide a slightly bitter finish. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, full bodied and the flavors are bold enough to mask the higher (7.5%) alcohol content. A well balanced brew and quite drinkable as Old Ales go.

I am drinking a winter warmer in the summer in Florida.

Dark copper/caramel color. Nice off-white lacing. Smell is malty, biscuity, sweet raisiny, faint hints that are almost maple syrup. A little bit of warm alcohol in the nose. Inviting. It's delicious. The alcohol is masked nicely. A little slick. It seemed watery at first, but definitely improves with warmth. If it were not 77 degrees in my apartment, I would drink this (sippingly!) all night. I hope ABC still has that other box set on clearance, 'cause I'll buy it to shelve one of these until winter.

Pours a reddish brown with a two-finger beige head that fades slowly to a thin cap. No lacing.

Smell is prunes, raisins, dried apricot, toffee, a hint of bubblegum, and the faintest bit of vinegar. Some sweeter fruits notes become stronger as it warms; there's some cherry with a touch of chocolate.

Taste starts off with dried fruit and bready malts, which give way to some earthy, almost nutty, flavors. Finishes bittersweet with some red wine-like fruits.

Medium-bodied mouthfeel. Carbonation was a bit distracting.

Overall, a pretty decent, enjoyable beer.

Otter Creek: Double Decker, English Old Ale
(06/02/08)
22 oz. bottle: poured into a snifter.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy ruby with a large, flat off white head. Moderate retention.
Odor: Malt and yeast, featuring a bouquet of toasted grain, bread, plum and figs. There's some soft spice in the background, cinnamon, nutmeg and whiffs of alcohol.
Consistency: Medium body. Velvety on the palate, soft & dry, almost papery. Carbonation seems a little off for the style.
Taste: This beer is quite the hodgepodge. Flavors come on all at once, nutmeg, cardboard, nuttiness from the yeast, roasted caramel malt, molasses and faint chocolate. Hop flavors seem a little out of place with everything else, despite being pretty subdued. Finishes pretty clean with some roasted chocolate & bready flavors lingering.

Notes: This might have been a great beer if there was one central, dominant flavor that was bold enough to tie the beer together. As it is, it's a very bland interpretation of the style, but not completely undrinkable.

Picked this up in a world tour holiday 3 pack (on sale for only $5 at a local store, bought 4) with a nice glass to boot. Pours a nice dark brown with ruby tint. An impressive 2 finger head that dissipated to a 1 finger and left plenty of lacing for the entire session. Smells faintly of sweet malts with grainy breads and an alcohol kick. Taste is delightful, dark fruits on buttered sweet bread. Alcohol is cleverly masked. Mouthfeel is thick and slightly syrupy with good amount of carbonation. Drinkability is great for this one. Can't wait to drink the rest.

Picked this one up a while back and had not had the chance to try it yet. Decided to open it up last night and give this one a whirl. The pour was a deep thick brown with a good amount of clarity to it. Some decent carbonation could be seen streaming up towards the top of the glass. A nice three finger high head of off white foam formed on the top and gradually settled down, but never fully dissipating, leaving behind a small white pillow across the top and some nice side glass lacing.

The aroma was massively sweet, in a good way though. Lots of sugary malts, with hints of grains and a touch of earthy hops present as well. Nice amount of cinnamon hint to it, though nothing terribly extreme. The flavor followed suit almost exactly. The first note was of a sweet caramel flavor that welcomed you in, and followed with a good bit of earthy tones and a nice roasted nut like back. Some nice touches of hops in the finish, with a sort if English bitter like taste that lasted throughout. The feel was nice and smooth, with good carbonation and a medium body. There was a touch of alcohol in it, but more as a warming then a distraction, and as it warmed this quickly faded. I was easily able to polish off the bottle, though a few of them might have been more of an effort.

Overall not bad at all, I really enjoyed this and thought it was by far my favorite of the world tour so far. I would love to get this one again, really has a nice holiday feel to it. In addition, at $4.00 you really cannot go wrong here.
