Collaboration with Camba Bavaria
The OCB Crew is stoked to bring you on a transcontinental trip through friendship and fermentation. Created in collaboration with our buds at Camba Bavaria, this Oktoberfest lager is inspired by Germany’s annual seasonal celebration.
Located just outside Munich, Camba Bavaria is the pilot brewing component of brewing plant manufacturer BrauKon, who we first met in 2016 when we added one of their state-of-the-art, 120-barrel systems to our Middlebury digs.
Inspired by the classic style, Oktoberfest features German malts and a healthy dose of traditional German noble hops to build a recipe combining a toasty malt presence with the doughy, earthy aromatics of late-addition hops.

Copper pour that speaks to the malty goodness within. Sort burst of foamy head that fades fairly quickly.
Aroma is toasted grains and malts, caramel, honey and more brown bread than white.
Taste is right there with the nose - malty and sweet. Heavier on the caramel and honey than the bready malts. This, to me, is the differentiator when compared to similar styles from other breweries.
Solid Oktoberfest brew. Nothing that stands out in this increasingly crowded field (hooray for us!) but it's not going to disappoint.

Pours golden orange. Not much of an aroma. Clean and malty body. Very smooth. Slight sweet finish. An excellent Marzen.

Nailed it. Odd, retro label aside, this is one festbier collaboration that delivered. I even had to look up the Camba brewery to see if (hopefully) they imported any other beers to the US. Apparently not. Even so, Otter Creek picked a good one to partner with here. Beautiful deep gold/amber in the glass, nice light foamy head and soft carbonation, with a light biscuity smell. The flavor is at once rich and malty, with a nice (but subtle) hops bitterness and just enough (a hint) of sweetness to balance the whole things nicely. I bought a bunch of singles (different O'fest beers) to try together. This one stood out. I'd buy it again. Just not a fan of the weird label. Looks more like an orange soda from the 1970s. ;)

Poured from the can into a straightwalled pint sized glass.
A: very light copper with a head that disappears completely. Light carbo.
S: light earthy herbal hops with a peek of light grassiness. I smell some malt, doughy.
T: well balanced light vienna malt backbone and a very light herbal, grassy noble hop note.
M: Medium body. Turns a little acidic at finish which cleans up the quaff rather unexpectedly. Neither chalky nor bitter on ultimate finish. Malt kinda washes in mid retrohale but is very short lived.
O: the acidity is odd for the style, but it does keep it light and very drinkable. Not bad.

From the out of date can, it pours a lovely clear amber color with a modest inch head that stays awhile. Fresh scent of malt in the nose. Fresh taste of malt in the mouth. I like it!

Poured into a 5 oz taster, then drank from the can.
Look: No head, light orange coloration. No lacing as I drank.
Smell: Very light noble hop bitterness? Some light biscuit is hiding in there too.
Taste: Biscuit malt. Tastes like a wonderful loaf of bread. Perfect.
Mouthfeel: Heavy, coats the tongue in sweetness for a while.
Overall: Really pleasant. Not overly sweet, not overly hoppy like many American interpretations of this style. A very solid Oktoberfest that I would enjoy drinking again.
