They must have re-formulated this beer. It is not as bad as the ratings say... Had on draft at the Thread City Hop Fest in Willimantic, CT. I would suggest giving it another shot!

07/23/13 At Rattle N Hum, NYC. On tap. Listed as a kolsch which is a style I really like, especially mid-summer. What I got had a bit more body than I was expecting & had a touch of a sour/bitterness that seemed more in the wheat class. Only problem there was it lacked either the dryness or citrus one would expect in that realm. So many brews & so little time meant I needed to move on. Perhaps another day.

A: Pours a slightly hazy medium golden yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a three quarter finger tall creamy bright white head that reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a small thicker patch and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of wheat and citrus with just a hint of adjunct malt sweetness (which fades as the beer opens up).

T: The beer has a light to moderate body of wheat with some lighter amounts of adjunct malt sweetness (grain and corn) along with a light hint of citrus/lemon.

M: Light bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin/watery.

O: This is easy to drink and not unenjoyable but nothing really special either. Probably will not be picking this one up again.

This brew pours with a three finger head which lasts for several minuets and provides lacing the glass throuout.

The smell is hay/wheat and some kind of fruit, I can not tell what, maybe blueberry.

The taste is kind of bland, wheat, fruit, (blueberry?), some hops on the back end. It is also too sweet.

The mouthfeel is crisp and cracker like with heavy carbonation and a little oily on the back end.

Overall this brew could probably benefit from some spices. The musty smell and taste are similar to some other wheat beers I have had however in this brew both are a little unpleasant. This is pretty bland for a wheat beer; I believe Otter Creek can do better.

A - light golden yellow with a short lived white head

S - wheat, faint grassy

T - wheat, faint yeast, light flavor, very little hop character

M - light bodied, smooth, well carbonated

A very light, easy to drink, refreshing summer beer. It's not very unique but it is a decent beer if you like something light. I wouldn't turn it down if offered.

Pours a hazy, greenish yellow with a bubbly white head that quickly dissipates.

Smells of grain & lemon.

Taste is lemon, yeast, and grain. Not really a lot going on here. The few flavors that do appear seem a little off. Not anything exciting here, and it is leaning from average to bad.

Consumed 7/10/12

Appearance: Clear gold, pours with a little white head that fades quickly - leaves a few spots, but really not much of a head or much lacing

Smell: On the mild side - kind of smells like a bowl of wheat cereal sprinkled with sugar and grass - a light grainy sweetness, sugar, some grass, and plenty of wheat - some citrus and something that smells like honey

Taste: Follows the mild aroma, with some mild flavors - pale, grainy malts, wheat twang, and some sweetness - slightly sugary, with some honey and sweet citrus - slightly tart with some grass, some off-flavors

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, unusually light for the style - could actually use some more carbonation

Overall: Meh

Personally, I think Otter Creek is underrated. They make some great beers. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. It's overly mild and bland. As it warms, it becomes overly grassy and watery. Very average.

Otter has revamped the recipe this year so let's check it out. Hazy burnt Orange color with a thick head. Tight sticky lacing. Phenolic nose with some wheat other wise pretty subtle.

Thin yet slick body, not as much carbonation as expected. Sweet wheaty malt with touches of citrus and floral notes. Just enough bitterness to balance. Watery on the finish. Strangely a buttery aftertaste.

Has a chance at going well with food but flavors are subtle and overall its pretty bland. I think they were going for something that goes down as easy as coors light but without the bloated gassiness. I guess they accomplished that?

A very forgettable summer ale. Pours a light yellow with a mere half inch of head that quickly dies down like over carbonated champagne. Smell is mostly grainy and pleasant with mild lemon wedges and some peppery spice. Taste was pretty much on par with Lene's Summer Shady it was like they cloned the recipe. Mouthfeel was spot on for a summer beer with bubbly carbonation and light beer drink ability.

Overall I expected this to be better since most of their products have been great but this one is worth avoiding again. Average at best.

Into a pint glass:

A: clear yellow colored body with a half finger white fizzy head, barely any carbonation seen rising.

S: based around the citrus with some hops and honey in the background (both are barely there).

T: kinda bland between the citrus, hops and honey. I'm just wondering if the blend between the three was just not combined right (I don't know)? A fair amount of floral tones came out as the beer warmed.

M: vey light, slightly watery and harsh on the tongue.

O: well, its light (makes a good summer beer), but this is nothing special and has an unusual blandness that doesn't excite me. Sorry Otter Creek, try again.

Bottle poured into pint glass

A - Extremely clear, good head.

S - Distinct notes of honey, citrus and pear.

T - Not a strong initial taste at all, almost hard to place anything. Notes of pear come through at the end, but again nothing strong at all.

M - Not much to the mouthfeel, almost like drinking a glass of water. Very light on the tongue.

O - Alright beer, but nothing special. I would take other summer ales over this is given the choice. However, I had definitely had worse.

Picked up a 6-pack of this near the end of the season for $3.99. Can't pass that up. Poured the final bottle into a pint glass for review. From notes.

Pours an unsurprising pale gold with a 2-finger bone-white head. This dies down quickly to nothing but a thin sheet. Zesty fruity nose. A bit of lemon-cleaner in there as well. The mouth is popping an bubbly, to a fault. Hinders drinkability a bit. Lots of lemon in the flavor, faint white pepper bite on the back end. Mild grainy quality. Wheat character is not pronounced. This was mildly refreshing, but not something I would get at 'full-price.'

Gotta echo the majority on this summer offering from OC. This is one thin, unsubstantial example of a pretty light style to begin with. Yes it’s a thirst quencher and an easy session brew for a hot day’s barbeque. But this very watery light yellow beer has little else to recommend it. Aroma is noticeably wheaty and citric. The taste is the same, dominated by lemony notes, with the floral hops that are here extremely subdued. Would like a much more pronounced yeastiness to this than what is there.

Bubbly carbonation. Finishes fairly clean. Boring in the end; I say the Copper Ale is a much better choice on even the hottest summer days.

part of an otter creek sample case.

Poured slightly hazy yellow with a thin head. Fair amount of carbonation.

Aroma was citrus-like

Taste- ahh, this is where it lost me. Not much flavor beyond the citrus

Mouth was very weak and water-like. I can imagine it would be refreshing on a 100f day, but it's in the 60's here

Didn't care for the beer, just weak without much to highlight. Think I'll stick to the copper

A-Pours a fairly transparent yellow hue. Not exceptionally bright, but still somewhat illuminating. Almost no head, although I did pour gently. Not much haze, and the bubbles are few and rise slowly.

S- Wheat and citrus. There is an almost tart lemony scent. Grainy and even a tad bit skunky. Not a strong aroma, but definitely a curious one. Most summer beers are pretty boring, so let me see..

T-Like watered down lemon juice mixed with a metallic/glassy flavor. As if the beer has begun to taste like the bottle that contains it. Somewhat grassy.

M-Light and watery with not much lingering feel. Carbonation is high but is not very off putting.

O/D-Just another sub-decent summer beer that I could stand to forget.

Bottle was part of an Otter Creek Variety Case.

Enjoyed in a DFH Pint Glass

A - Pours a slightly hazy, golden straw color. A decent two finger, fairly dense, white head on the initial pour that fades to a light skim. A fair amount of sediment left on the bottom of the bottle after pouring. Moderate lacing.

S - A slightly grassy, lemony smell

T - Not bad. It tastes like a lite-style pilsner with a lemony, earthy taste. A bit of a yeasty taste comes through as well. Actually very easy to drink. I had this while BBQing on a warm night and it was a thirst quencher. Easily sessionable but nothing that stands out. No alcohol taste at all.

M - Decently carbonated. Thinnish consistency.

O - Of the four beers in the Otter Creek case, this is my least favorite. That being said, it is what it is...a very easy to drink, summer beer. No frills just a beer that you can easily down several of on a hot night. I'll finish the remaining bottles but I wouldn't necessarily seek it out again.

12oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

Pours a very clear and light yellow with a small white head with a lot of Lacing. Nose is not very good, it's a bit like pbr with honey.

Taste is very light and crisp and although the nose is meh this is really refreshing. Carbonation is good and makes it easy drinking, this isn't a fancy beer but it's a good summer brew.

Pours a hazy blonde without much head. Metalic smell even though it is fresh from the bottle. Weak taste, with hints of metal, not much body to it. Sharp on the palate with a slightly sticky mouth feel that lingers. Not quite what I would choose in a summer beer.

It is pretty much the same as most of the plain American wheat beers. One difference is the color. This beer is very pale almost like lemonade with minimal head and lacing. The aroma is the bes thing about this beer, it is very lemony. There is barely any taste at all. I get a little of that dull American wheat beer taste. This was the July selection for our beer of the month club. I wouldn't purchase again but it is okay for a hot summer day.

12oz bottle. Pours a semi translucent golden straw color with zero head. No lacing. Aroma is slightly sour. Malts, grains, cut grass. Taste is very light. A bit watery and basically has some lemon to it but mostly flavors of malts and grains. Easy to drink, but that's the point. A bit disappointed with this one. Nothing special and not all that much flavor. Its great to drink outside in the Summer, but there are a large list of better beers for that than this one. Overall, it works fine in the mix 12 pack but it isn't all that good.

Yellow and translucent with no head. A bunch of carbonation running up the sides of my pint glass. Aroma is light. Some hints of pale and wheat malts with a peppery lemon zest. The taste basically follows the aroma with the sweet malts coming through. There is a great transition from pale malty sweetness to grassy lemon hop crispness. Great crisp and refreshing light body. I had a couple of these yesterday afternoon outside grilling.

The appearance was alright - nothing outstanding. A bit of a head, a nice pale color.

The smell was straw and grassy. Not a lot of smell to it though.

Taste was not impressive. It was grassy and faintly herbal with a bit of citrus. But the flavors didn't meld so much as they fought it out on my palate.

Carbonation and lack of an aftertaste were benefits in this beer, given the flavor.

Overall, not a fan.

12 oz bottle, no date, just a lot #.

very pale straw color, with bone white head. aroma is just a bit of wheat and a touch of lemon grassy-ness. taste is similar. very light in flavor, watery. thin, fizzy body, easy drinking.

overall, very light, but a half decent summer beer for a hot day. but once it starts to warm its not good.

12 oz bottle poured into a perfect pint glass bottled on 3/8/11

A- pours looking like lemonade, head is actually very bright white but disappears like a one-hit wonder. Little to no carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass.

S- Light notes of wheat and pale malts, not very strong in the nose at all, just a touch of lemon.

T- tastes like straw with a slight bitterness on the finish that seems misplaced,

M- light bodied, not really much to it, carbonation is barely noticeable.

O- it seems as if they were going for a lemonadesque, summer shandy type beer, but this fell way short of the mark. Maybe it's just not hot enough here yet to enjoy this summer ale, but I would avoid this one.

A: The beer is hazy pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin layer of bubbles that consistently covered the surface.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of wheat and hints of citrus in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has notes of grainy malts and corn in the flavors.
M: It feels light-bodied and a bit watery on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink and could be considered refreshing on a hot summer day but there’s nothing interesting about this beer that would make me want to try it again.
