Thanks to Eric for gifting me with a bottle of this. Poured into a SA sensory glass, the brew appears a perfectly clear color of amber with a finger and a half of yellowish stained tan cap. As the froth recedes, it leaves a webbing pattern of lacing all over the glass.

The smell of this brew includes some caramel to toffee malt sweetness with a faint nutty to buttery aspect. Through the profile is a scent of citrus to herbal hops mixed with a touch of mineral inclusion. There is a green veggy aspect across the back which mingles with some yeasty aspects and brings out more of a mineral feel to the nose.

The taste initially has some nutty flavoring to the maltiness which transitions into more of a toasted grain/biscuit flavor. Some fruity alcohol notes are present along with a rindy bitterness of oily hops. There is not much residual sweetness but it is somewhat present and immediately contrasted by a strong herbal bitterness. As more sips are taken, across the back it gets a bit more bitter and the focus of this brew changes from malty to hoppy but it is one-noted and very rindy in character. This bitterness really brings out more of a mineral flavor that isn't exactly enjoyable and I find to be a bit distracting. Once the brew goes beyond ideal, it has a strong buttery aspect to it with a lasting resinous cling of hops.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest to lower level of carbonation. It has a toasty appeal to the malt flavors but the sharp rindy bitterness clashes a bit. I think this brew is stuck in the middle of being a traditional amber and nugget nectar "wannabe." Unfortunately, it falls shorts in either direction and doesn't really mesh that well.

From an annual Christmas case, enjoying the holiday season. This beer pours a almost red amber color. Very clear, with a wispy off-white head. It's aroma is a little disappointing...grainy, grassy, an astringent-like smell. It's not a typical malt-hop balance that I expected. The taste is semi-dry, with a carbonic bite and some hop bitterness. Sharp edges, and lighter in body than necessary. This is an average craft red ale, not much more.

On the bitter, and coppery; but overall hearty.

Pours a clean reddish to orange-ish color, with an off white head. In the aroma, a sweet malt, with notes of caramel. In the taste, sweet caramel malt and some lingering cinnamon. A small spice bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a mellow, dry cinnamon in the aftertaste. Not bad, just boring and eh!

Nice amber / copper color with decent head and moderate carbonation. Caramel and floral aroma. Very bitter without a deep complexity of flavor. Peppery spice notes. Mid-glass it almost seems a bit diluted. Drinkability is decent. Yeasty mouthfeel in the aftertaste. We feel this beer needs a bit of balancing. The elements it has alone aren't great in a beer, but coupled with a bit more sweetness and depth it could be very good. Finishes just a bit sweeter.

Otter Creek is hit or miss for me. Their Alpine Black IPA is a home run, others are buttery misses. described on the bottle as a "generously hopped red ale" and thoughts of Nugget Nectar and Zoe come to mind. Lets see how this one stacks up.

a dark copper that is slightly brown, but I wouldn't call it red or amber in color. a nice light tan head with decent retention and lacing.

damn it. butterscotch. I think the hops have faded (not that this is old by any means!) but there is some piney and herbal hops in the aroma with tons of caramel and toffee along with the butter.

butterscotch, caramel and biscuits lead the way with some herbal and woody hops before the buttery finish.

medium bodied with decent carbonation.

nugget nectar this is not. generously hopped? I'm not getting it.
