a: Chill hazed coppery amber; poured with a medium sized fizzy cap.

s: Nutty, bready malts; some leafy hops as well.

t: Crisply sweet bready malts with a nutty, leafy finish. I don't have much experience with the style, but this pretty spot-on to me.

m: Crisp and clean.

o: Nicely done, perfect for a beautiful fall day.

picked this up at Giant enjoyed chilled in a pub glass chilled from the 12oz bottle

The color is deep amber like changing autum leaves with good clarity with a quick collapsing white head with fine bead. The smell is very good, very malty with a mild sweet scent of caramel malt and light herbal hop odors. The feel is very good with moderate carbonation and body with mild spice and sweet backbone adding to the lager yeast which is clean textured

The taste is very good, lots of malt flavor with some toasted flavor with a slight caramel sweetness and subtle spice from the hops with yeast accents which enhances the mild toffee-taste in the background. The overall drinakbility level is very good, I would recommend this if you enjoy a lager with some malt flavor it is not the fullest of the style malt-wise but it went well with my knockwurst

Stopped by Otter on 02SEP12 with Alewife for a bit of lunch during a great bike ride. Was told by the staff there that this is now a lager. This was confirmed via email as follows:

"Our Oktoberfest is indeed a lager. We ferment this brew with Andechs lager yeast. We also hand loaded all malts (Munich, Vienna, and Pilsen) by hand in lieu of the conventional bulk 2 Row used for our traditional ale production. Cheers!

Mike Gerhart "

So, I grabbed a pint to lead off! Shaker glass was filled with a clear, medium copper bier, which had steady carbo present. Head was thin, off-white and wispy, with nice lace left arrear. Nose had some light caramel and toasty malts. This bier passed fairly smoothly over the tongue, and the body was mid-range medium.

Light sweetness first alit on the palate, with more toasty, caramel notes, plus a touch of subtle toffee. The malt level here was real nice and more typical of the style than the faux-OFest ales in the past. Had some mild floral hop action rounding out the finish. Found it quite solid and drinkable. Prosit!

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Pours light amber, and with light white sticky foam. Malt nose, but small, some caramel. Bready. All Malt taste. Varied sweetness, but held in check by a subtle hop. Not much of a story to tell here. Simple but good. Sessionable.
