2016 release.

Pours orange with a thin white head that dissipates steadily. Sticky white lacing and some spotty white foam is left on the top of the beer. Beer is full of floating chinky particles suspended in the beer. It looks pretty gross.

Beer aroma is very dank, lots of pine, sap and grapefruit. Malty backbone. There is a soapy character to the aroma.

Taste has some notes of grapefruit and pine - very bitter. Tons of dank grass, sap and pine on the backend. Not much malt is noted in the taste.

Feel is standard for the style. Medium carbonation. nothing special.

Overall this is just an odd beer. I really can't get past the fact that the beer is full of chunky particles. It just looks gross. The taste is extremely bitter - up there with the most bitter of west coast style IPAs. To me, this is an ok beer - certainly nothing world class. But hey, its got the name recognition going (covering) for it.

From the growler purchased at the WRJ Co-Op, it pours a moderately dark amber with a nice head. Lots of floral notes in the nose. Malt and a slight bitterness in the mouth. Good IPA!

12oz bottle dated 9/21/16.

Pours cloudy gold with lots of chunks. Moderate head and retention. Aromatics are surprisingly subdued given the hype train and rarity on this one. Pine and some tropical fruit that you really have to get your nose down into the glass to find. Medium bodied and crisp. Bitter hops on the palate with barely a trace of malt. Pine and grapefruit pith with a lingering, building bitterness. Finishes bitter with lots of grapefuit pith.

Finally tracked this down after three years and I'm pretty underwhelmed. Heavy on the bitterness and light on the hops in the nose and palate.

12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed tulip style glass. Hazy, orange color, and great citrusy aroma. Great collaboration between the two breweries, and I was excited to try a beer from Lawson's, which definitely represents well in this beer. Dank double IPA!

From bottle at home. Dated 092116. Kind of pricey. Nice autumnal orange in color. Thick creamy head benefited from a swirl of the last 20% swirled to pour. Head thickened & held some of the sediment intensifying the flavors.

Big fruit on the hops. Some citrus, some peachy & a tiny piney. Very unctuous & full bodied. The taste is complex & very enjoyable, so I'll save the parsing to others.

Not an everyday beer for me, but a real treat.

They made a hammer of an East Coast style IPA. Dank, bitter, and malty. I like it. Pucker up. Disclaimer: 12 oz bottle. 1 1/2 months old. Maybe different if fresher?

2016 batch bottle dated 09/21/2016.

Poured out a murky dark golden color with a large head and lots of lacing. Sediment in the bottle made it into the glass (by design) and made a very hazy beverage. Nose is pure West Coast. Piney, grapefruit, citrus, grapefruit peel, dank, catty and resinous. The taste is a perfect mirror of the nose but with a ton of bitterness. I thought this was going to be an East Coast style beer. It looks the part of an east coast DIPA except for the darkness but it is truly just a murky and hazy West coast bitter hop bomb. Not bad but I don't think it up to the hype. I'm looking for the East coast tropical notes primarily.

Pours into a nonic a hazy burnt orange with some chunky's and floaties swirling,a thick lacy off white head atop. The only slight drawback to this beer is that the aromas are not as assertive to me as they should be,I get some sticky citric hops mainly.Sweet, citric, and sticky hops dominate the flavor profile with more sugary-like sweetness underneath to go along with caramel. It sounds sweeter than maybe what it is,it's hop goodness in that sticky not bitter form.A standout NE DIPA from two great brewer's,top notch.

Pours burnt orange with a lot of sediment. Head is white that clings to the sides of the snifter. Aroma of peaches, apricot, orange peels and some Carmel. Taste is citrus, pine needles, bitter in the middle citrus to a deep earthy herbal tone finish. Very nice dipa. I feel it's better as it warms.

12 oz. bottle dated 09/21/16

Pours hazy cloudy amber orange with loads of floating sediment, and a creamy frothy off-white foam head. Smells like juicy peaches, apricot, pineapple, grapefruit pith, orange peel, guava, papaya, some bready caramel malt, with dank earthy herbal grass and resinous pine. Tastes like juicy apricot, peaches, pineapple, grapefruit pith, orange peel, guava, papaya, bready caramel malts, with dank earthy herbal grass and bitter resinous pine. Feels medium-full bodied, smooth and creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall a really nice double IPA.

Reddish orange pour, hazy with a healthy amount of sediment. Nice lacing, head deflates after the first few sips but rests above the beer. Smells like raisin, blood orange, stonefruit; an herbal note after a few whiffs. Tastes like an autumnal fruit salad with some champagne vinaigrette on top. Malt definitely prominent but not the slightest bit overboard. Nice effort from these two brilliant Vermont minds!

I've had this beer the past 3 times it's been released. This review is for the 2016 version.

Pours a deep orange color with off white head. Medium haze with LOTS of sediment floating around.

Aroma is restrained. Some citrus, some pine, some malt sweetness. Overall, not overwhelmingly aromatic.

Taste is also restrained. I get some citrus and some pine with CRAZY amounts of bitterness that lingers long after the swallow. Mouthfeel is pretty thick, but not off putting.

Overall, this is probably my least favorite of the Double Doses I've had the past few years. I like bitter beers, but the bitterness with this beer overwhelms in my opinion. This beer reminds me more of an Otter Creek beer than a Lawson's beer if that makes any sense.

From a 2-week-old bottle, pours a hazy orange that's thick, almost sludgy, with particulate. Small, off-white head leaves decent lacing. Not a whole lot on the nose--some orange, grapefruit and pine, with a bit of malt coming in. Taste is pretty powerful grapefruit pith and pine resin. Huge, almost crushing bitterness, which I happen to love. Feel is substantial but very drinkable, just right for the style. Overall, a powerful and very tasty brew, but don't plan on being able to taste anything else after this one.

really excited to try this collaboration for the first time! slightly hazy golden orange appearance, tons of floaters in my glass and no surprise since theres a thick layer of sludge visible at the bottom of the bottle. heavy carbonation is apparent and a solid white head with good retention and some spots of lace.

aromas of pine, orange, mango, pineapple, lemon, grass, minty note, malty sweetness. predominate note on the palate is pine, well complimented by some sharp citrus notes, getting definite grapefruit and lemon zest, hints of orange and a nice herbal green note. mouthfeel is adequate. overall this one is decent but a bit of a letdown in my book.

Had at brewery in a snifter.

Amber; lightly hazy and low, fluffy white head

Aroma is of fresh hops, not super aromatic overall

Mouthfeel is great. perfect thickness and level of carbonation. Not micro bubbles but some bitterness in the carbonation.
Light on the finish

Not super strong flavor upfront aside form a bit of bitterness with the bubbles. Fresh hops are strong on the finish. Some light malt but not much.

Finish is all hop. A little sweetness too and tastes very fresh. Darker and more malt than a lot of NE DIPAs

A hazy, dark orange color. Minimal head.
Citrus aroma. Some floral notes. A hint of caramel malt.
Big taste. Grapefruit and more grapefruit. Some light pine. Caramel as an afterthought.
Very hop forward. Delightful beer.

The beer has a hazy dark orange color. The aroma is mostly muted with hints of malt and tropical fruits. The taste is sweet up front, followed by citrus, big herbal notes, and piney bitterness. Would have liked to have it fresher but not bad.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking burnt/bronzed orange color with a slim finger-ed white lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell started off with a sweet onion bursting into some light grapefruit and a sweet freshly cut grass blending to invade and agitate my nose in a nice way. A graceful amount of malts make an effort to balance but honestly, they do a good job to stay in the background.
The taste was moderately bitter with an ample amount of sweet citrus to slide into the aftertaste and then glide into the finish.
The mouthfeel was about a light to medium on the body with a purely graceful burst of bitter hops to glide along my tongue in streams of bliss. Still a nice set of bitter IBU's kicking at my tongue just the way I want it for a DIPA.
Overall, this was my last bottle and you know what, yeah, so awesome, looking forward to next year's batch.

taste is a slightly bitter but tons of fresh hops flavor.. could be a little thicker in mouthfeel but a solid beer all the way around..

Pours a hazy golden/amber color with nice head. Aroma of tropical fruit, caramel and pine. Smells great. Flavor is almost identical to aroma, not super complex but very solid and balanced with a touch more crystal malt than some of its New England cousins. Mouthfeel is lightest end of medium-light and perfect amout of carbonation to let the malt shine through with the hops. Great beer, I thoroughly enjoyed.

12oz bottle in a tulip glass.

It's a hazy orange color with very active small-bubble carbonation and it has a bit of sediment. The 2F tinted white head drops to a heavy film and never leaves, web lacing, durable. That look alone may not rate a 5, but I am partial to the name "Double Dose", so a 5 it is.

Initially sweet from the open bottle but the pour tempers that notion. It remains slightly candied, like the smell of Jolly Rancher candy. There are tropical fruits, citrus, orange zest, and some alcohol as it warms.

More fruits, tropical, grapefruit and more orange. Slight pine and alcohol. Sturdy malt taste.

Full and silky smooth feel. Good carbonation action. Hop zing, not bitter. Some alcohol. Strong citrus hop finish.

Overall I like it and I'm glad to have found it fresh here in Jersey. I'd guess that any hop fade would detract greatly from the beer.

This beer does not live up to the hype.

Aroma is nice and balanced, but unfortunately that is where the balance ends.

This is a very dry DIPA (which I like), but there is a fusel alcohol hotness and the hops do not stand out on their own other that the initial bitterness.

A bit grassy on the finish. Just seems like something is off. Either too warm on fermentation, PH issues, just something seems off.

Hate to say it, but I poured out half way through.

Cloudy orange in that New England IPA kind of way. Nice fluffy orange tinted head that leaves gobs of lacing. Slightly dank scent. Pine and grapefruit at more at the forefront. Slightly sweet alcohol scent.

Flavor begins with a piney bitterness. Progresses to a blossoming citrus flavor that turns into sweet orange peel. Really nice, but a linger slightly acrid bitterness gives a mildly negative impression. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and well carbonated.

Good beer, but I enjoyed Lawson's solo efforts more.
