Light golden amber in appearance with a bubbly two-finger sized head that settles to a thin lacing around the glass.

A combination of grassy hops & citrus was masked somewhat but a skunky main aroma. Quite bland in general although not really unpleasant.

Quite a standard pale lager/pilsner that was a rather bland affair with the slightest of skunky tastes coming from the pint. The taste also hinted at some grassy hops, grain & citrus/lemon although this again was masked for the most part.

A light pilsener with a semi smooth texture that goes down incredibly easy & tingles the tongue ever so slightly.

A pretty average pilsener in my opinion although it does go down very easy & works wonders as a session beer.

I poured the half liter bottle into a stella Artois glass. The beer poured a nice cloudy golden color with a small white lacing for a head. Plenty of nice hop bitterness on the tongue with a buttery finish. The mouthfeel is very mellow a goes down smoothly. A great sipping beer and even better for long sessions.

Pourd a .5L can into my mug. Appeared gold, not entirely clear, with a short head. The bitterness is right in line with the style with a rounded, herbal hop finish. The aroma and flavor are a touch cider-like at first, but the spicy, dry lemony hops quickly take over. Not a bad lager to session.

A - Pours a crystal clear golden colour, finger of head with solid retention and some fine sticky lacing.

S - Quite mild, but grassy hops and some sour citrus come through. Classic euro scent.

T - Grassy hops and a wheaty malt come through with some hop bitterness that lingers. Reminiscent of a Heineken Pale Lager but with more dominant flavours. Better than some of the Canadian large scale brews available.

M - Medium bodied, a bit prickly going down but finishes with a nice touch of dryness.

D - A pleasant surprise and a tasty Euro lager that would bode well on a hot summer day. Flavours are mild, but I would definitely prefer this over some of the Canadian large scale brews.

A low profile white head quickly dissipates to a thin film over the clear, honey-yellow brew with very little lacing. It clouds up a little as the last dregs from the bottle drip in some yeasty sediment. It has the smell of Euro mineral water and damp wood.

The beer has a decent grain bill, with a touch of sweetness in the cereal malts and some light hops giving a bit of bitters character. Overall a pretty smooth product, easily consumed, with a nice, straightforward label and well rounded flavor profile. Probably would pair well with a roast pheasant dinner.

A: Pours a clear deep golden colour with a big two finger white head. Settles to a thin cap with little clumps of thicker foam and left decent lacing.

S: Bit of a skunky aroma. But besides that there's a bit of a grass smell or at times it seems more like a vegetable smell.

T: More skunkiness. For other tastes I get grassy notes and it seems to have a little spice right at the end.

M: Light carbonation with a light body.

D: I'm not sure if this beer is always supposed to be skunky like this or not, but the skunkiness overpowered the aroma and taste to the point that it was difficult to pick them out.

A: Golden with amber body, one finger head, circles of lacing
incase the pint glass.

S: grain, earthy/pine, yeast.

T: sweet grain up front with dry bitter finish.

M: light/medium body, solid carbonation, light prick on the tongue.

D: Very nice import pilsner. fine session beer. Not phenomenal, but worth trying. Just wanted to try something different, this was an impulse beer buy.

Green 500 mL bottle dated BB F2010 poured into a flared Kanterbrau glass.

A: Golden, light head, little retention, no lacing. Bah.
S: Cooked vegetal, light earth and mild grain
T: Dominated by DMS & cooked vegetal tastes initially. Settles into a drinkable slight earthy bitterness with a raw grainyness to the body.
M: Good crisp carbonation. Finishes clean and relatively dry.
D: Not bad, not great. Would like to try this fresher though.

A- Slightly hazed effervescent straw, with orange tints. Bone white head is one finger that dissapates to a slick and one ring of lacing.
S- Slightly floral, slightly lemony. Grainy. Not a terrible aroma, but very subdued and nothing really standout.
T- Starts grainy, finishes just a touch lemony. A bit sweet throughout, but not overly so.
M- Carbonation was a touch low, but body was slightly fuller than most in style. Together this caused a slightly syrupy note at times, but not terrible.
D- A good Czech Pilsner. though not necessarily standout in the style.

The aroma is a very strong grassy and nutty smell. Pretty distinctive, actually.

Taste is much of the same, with some grassy notes, but a definite nutty character as well. It may very well be of grain or barley, but it comes across nutty. There is a pretty mild bitter touch on the finish that is light for style. More nuttiness and perhaps barley hang around after the swallow.

For style, I can't say this is one of the better ones I've had. The tastes are just a bit off for me. More crispness and hop character would have been welcomed, and the flavor profile is a little odd.

A: golden straw, clear and extremely effervescent with a thick frothy with a pure white head. When I look at this its what I imaged beer looked like when I was a kid. The big glass of yellow with a white foam that homer was always drinking at moe's tavern. Leaves a beautiful white lacing.

S: grassy and slightly lemony with a small hop profile. Malt is noticable as is yeast and it makes for a nice white bread smell.

T: light smooth hop profile and a lot of yeast and malt backing. Dry lemongrass and not a whole lot else. All the flavors from the malt hops and yeast blend well and makes for a nice smooth flavor profile. Very typical of a good czech style pilsner.

MF: light, smooth, effervescent, not very bitter however it is not watered down. The flavors blend smoothly and do not attack the mouth.

D: very typical of a czech style pilsner and a very drinkable beer; that beening said for a beer I have to search all over and fear to find fresh at its price I'd rather buy somthing locally and just as good. A great beer but the availability takes away from it.

Golden yellow appearance with moderate head. Smell is grassy, large amount of hops are apparent.

The taste is rich and grassy. This has a moderate body and goes down smooth. Carbonation is light. The after taste is bitter and spicy that lingers for awhile after drinking.

Overall, this is a simple and refreshing beer. Although expensive, it is worth drinking all night.

500 ml poured in a chilled pint glass...

Appearance - Beer pours with a good amount of head that has a slight tinge of brown to it. The head is very foamy with a lot of air pockets. The beer itself is a nice golden yellow with minimal carbonation. Some nice lacing is occurring as well.

Smell - I can smell a decent amount of hops and malt in the beer. A slight general based spiced smell as well.

Taste - Very good tasting beer, there is a slight taste of bitterness that does not ever take the taste. The beer has a strong presents to itself.

Mouthfeel - I may go as far as saying the beer appears to be flat in the mouth. The flavour remains the same as the taste, not much added here.

Drinkability - Nice tasting beer that i will stock again. Overall, impressed with character this beer brings to the table.

This beer pours a golden straw color. The head is one inch in height, and recedes slowly but eventually vanishes. The aroma is of faint noble hops, and a little skunk. The taste has some nice bready malt with a hint of hops. Unlike the aroma there is no skunkiness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is a decent beer, but I doubt I'll drink it again.

A - 2 fingers of creamy white head. Excellent clarity. Pale gold colour.

S - Familiar Pils smell. Grassy spicy hops.

T - Rich malt character. Surprisingly complex malt character. Nice balancing bitterness with some spicy character in the end.

M - Very smooth and full bodied, excellent!

D - Very good.

I have to question the treatment of the beer others have reviewed. Not only does the beer have to be fresh, but it needs to be treated well. Green bottles are notoriously bad for poor shelf life.

I Did not get any 'floaties' and the head was bone white. An all round excellent pilsner.

Golden Pheasant has a medium, off-white head and a color and appearance very similar to apple juice. There was some sort of particulate matter floating about, and carbonation was moderate. Aroma is of a sort of off, chemical, semi-sweet, gum smell. The taste is also of that gummy, industrial flavor, which is not at all pleasant. Mouth-feel is medium and not unlike mouth wash. The beer finishes wet and difficult to down. Maybe this sample was spoiled, but I did not like it.

A- Impressive thick white foamy head covers the brew well, finally settling down to a layer about a quarter inch thick. Just as the name implies, the coloring of the beer is golden and is crystal clear. Loads of lazy carbonation rise to the top of the liquid, trapped by all those bubbles on top. The lacing is thick, creating a thin layer all around the glass. I'm very happy with the look of this beer!

S- This definitely smells of Pilsener! The hops are present immediately, followed by a clean, crisp herbal quality...very leafy and fresh! The malt sweetness is noticeable more in the backround and helps to balance the dominant spicy aromas.

T- Dry grassy flavors, followed by leafy bittering hops dominate the palate here. It is floral yet sweet at the same time. It is a little richer than the aroma lets on, and I agree, there is a slight citrus flavor about it....lemon zest to be more precise. Overall, the flavoring is a little softer than I expected.

M- Again, this feels richer than it should IMO, as it is more medium to full bodied and the carbonation is actually quite soft and fine. It lingers on the palate for quite some time before the next drink.

D- This is flavorful, yet different, but has the overall profile of a Czech Pils. It's fuller, but refreshing and I wish this was available on tap at any of the local pubs....it would be a great choice. I would have no problems having an evening full of this brew....I like it and recommend it!

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Poured a golden yellow with a big frothy head. The head slowly dissipated to a thin bubbly cap and some lacing is produced.

S - Sweet, bread, grass and a hint of citrus.

T - Sweet, hint of citrus with a grassy hop finish.

M - Lacks a bit of carbonation for the style. Finish is a bit dry.

D - Good beer. Easy to drink only this in a sitting.

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance - the beer pours a golden yellow colour with a decent size fizzy and foamy white head. I can see lots of carbonation slowly rising to the top of the glass. There appears to be some average lacing and the head has lasted for a few minutes.

Smell - The beer has a slight skunkiness, also a grassy scent. There are hops, malts, and a corn syrup sweetness.

Taste & Mouth - An average amount of carbonation, I wouldn't mind a little more, but it still has a nice mouth feel. The beer has a nice medium bodied taste, not watery at all. It has a very refreshing and satisfying taste. I can taste bready/grain notes, also a slight citrus zest and some hops. It ends with just a slight bitterness but the aftertaste is sweet.

Drink - An excellent euro lager, probably one of the best I've had from the category. I'd compare this with Pilsner Urquell. A definite session beer.

Pours pale yellow with streamers of bubbles and a tight rocky white head that leaves trailers. Old school lager nose: lots of sweet grain with a bit of cedar oil. Tart grain with hints of white bread toast and thin honey followed by woody hops with touch of lemon rind. Tight clove oil finish. Crisp, creamy, round.

Hops are more on the wood/perfume side than the grass/spice. Not hopped up to Budvar, but a good clean Czech pilsener.

Appearance -- Crystal clear yellow with two fingers of sudsy white head.

Smell -- Pilsner malt, cut grass/floral hops, a bit of musky hop aroma. Overall: Malty sweet and floral.

Taste -- Grainy sweetness with grassy/floral hops. There's some mild fruitiness under the surface, but otherwise it tastes just like it smells. Finish is mostly clean

Mouthfeel -- Light in body with fizzy carbonation.

Drinkability -- Not a game-changer by any stretch, but I found it to be pleasant enough. It's more or less on par with the rest of Europe's macro lagers such as Carlsberg or Stella Artois.

Appearance: Solid golden. Pretty flat. Not much foam or carbonation, unless you shake it a bit or take a sip.

Smell: Spicy hops, wet hay, and strong honey. A good balance in my opinion. Thumbs up!

Taste/Mouthfeel: I definitely taste the hops, hay, and honey. Overall, a solid taste, but a bit too sweet. A tad bit flat, but smooth. Suprisingly thick for a Czech pilsener though. A bit cloying.

Drinkability: You might like this if you can handle the sweetness and consistency. It might be a problem for some.

Overall: If you've tried other Czech pilseners, this is worth trying.

CAN you believe what due diligence will uncover in the ongoing CANQuest (TM)? I almost CAN't, but here is another rare CAN!

From the CAN: "A Golden Pheasant in a field of ripen [sic] barley has always been a sign of a rich and bountiful harvest." It makes it sound like I should be drinking this at Thanksgiving, but I CAN't wait that long!

My pour got me two fingers' worth of fluffy, foamy bone-white head with good retention. Color was a pretty, deep golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity. Liquid sunshine! Nose had a rich, Saaz-hop grassiness up front, with an underlying lager sweetness. In a CAN!?! I have been missing out with all of the AALs that have been part of this process. Mouthfeel was medium and it had a pronounced molasses flavor on the tongue. Wild! Finish was slightly grassy and bitter, but lingering with a molasses tang. I have this as a "Gots" but if I do not get any takers, it will be going into my cooler.

Served in a Budweiser pokal.

Nice, a Slovak quasi-tallboy. Doesn't get much better than that, right? Oh, wait, it does: Johnny Cash's "Hurt" now fills the air about me. Right on. This bad boy pours a clear pale straw topped by over a finger of quick-to-death white foam. The nose comprises wheat, puffed rice, and a field full o' fragrant flowers. The taste rocks all o' these elements, adding a slight corn-syrup-esque sweetness in the back. The body is pretty light, with a light carbonation and a crisp, dry finish. Overall, a solid pils; I may not be that big a fan o' this style, but this is pretty good.

I like this beer. Poured from tap to a 0,5l Zwayt Bazant glass, by the time the beer got to me there was no head so I imagine it fell fast to the thin white film left before me. A clear golden body was shown with a good amount of activity. Smells faintly of malt and hops. There's a sweetness like honey in the beer very malty and a bit filling with slight hop taste as well. I really like the beer. Though slightly filling, I'd happily make a few of these my meal.
