Madison River Brewing Company presents Salmon Fly Honey Rye. The malted barley used in this unique brew is complimented by the subtle spiciness of rye. Bittering and flavor hop additions help keep this brew extremely balanced. In addition, there is a mild sweetness that dulls any overwhelming rye or hop flavor derived from the pure local Montana honey. These ingredients blend together to create a lighter bodied drinking experience for all kinds of beer drinkers.

I mixed a 6pck myself at the Market Store in Gardiner, Montana whilst there visiting Yellowstone. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had grain and honey notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bright malt base and honey presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Salmon Fly Honey Rye

Date: Hard to read.
I have looked for a definitive answer to what exactly is a rye style. I love Rye Whiskey; am I going to get the spiciness of the rye in the beer. I used a pint glass; the temperature was 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy and airy white two-fingered head. The slow dissipation left some lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 6, pale straw with golden yellow hues. The beer is clear with some carbonation bubbles. Judging the appearance alone, it is above-average.
I do not pick up much rye aromas; I do smell the honey. Nosing further, I detect light floral, a touch of herbal, toasted crackers, and a slight hint of phenols. Subtle caramel aromas and lightly toasted malts are the last things I smell.
I do taste a slight spiciness of rye, more than I could smell. The other flavors are honey, herbal, floral esters, a touch of earthiness, grass, lightly toasted malts, and a touch of phenols.
The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. The body is light, has light carbonation, and has a quick finish.
This is my go-to summer beer; it is light, flavorful, and easy to drink. I think for a rye beer, the rye needs to be amped a bit more. A simple beer and not hard down several on a warm summer night.

Pours a mildly hazy golden color with a very short lived white head. Strong rye malt aroma and the taste is similar to the nose along with a honey and caramel sweetness.

Salmon Fly Honey Rye pours a copper color, with a very large, long lasting, lacing head. Aroma is sweet, sugary, hint of earthy and lots of honey. Flavor is bright, sweet, lots and lots of honey, a bit fake tasting, floral. Good body and feel. Overall, a really sweet beer, lots of honey notes.

Poured at a restaurant into a shaker pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a one finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of mild caramel and biscuit malt, honey and rye, exactly as I expected from the name. The flavor is very smooth caramel biscuit and bready malt, light citrus hops and a clear note of honey and a clear, but not dominating rye tartness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This is a beautifully balanced rye beer with just the right of honey to balance the rye notes. I'm an increasingly big fan of rye ales and this one is very distinctive. It would be one of my go-to beers if I lived in Montana. Really glad I tried this.
