750 ml bottle into snifter; bottled in Fall 2014. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of tart cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, licorice, red wine, oak, light bourbon, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of tart cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, licorice, red wine, oak, light bourbon, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of fruity/earthy tartness and roast/tannic oak bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, licorice, red wine, oak, light bourbon, hay, straw, grass, musty funk, light char, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly acidic/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome sour imperial stout style. All around great robustness, balance, and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on with the balanced acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

The aroma is straight stout- chocolate, coffee. Flavour changes, introducing the wild side, with some sour cherry, a powdery dry flavour and an off-funky flavour. The finish is the low point, powdery, dry and a big bitter.

Beaware....this is not your traditional imperial stout. If you are looking for dark, roasted coffee and chocolate, look elsewhere. If you are seeking a very unique and adventurous barrels aged sour, then look no further. Excellent ale!!!

I had much higher hopes for this, was disappointing from first smell/taste. I'm not a huge fan of sours, so probably why I'm rating it lower. If you are going for a sour imperial stout you would probably appreciate this more. Tastes of sour cherries, raisins guessing that the beer was barrel aged with cherries, but just not was I expecting more of typical barrel aging from the bourbon/whiskey influence.
