From my notes been meaning to review this one for some time now.

A= Poured almost black. Pretty nice head on this beer. Slight lacing.

S= To me it had a smell of slight hops. It really had a strong alcohol smell that was kind of overpowering but there was some hint of sweetness in this beer to me.

T= To me the taste of this beer started off a little bitter but the roasted malts came out and there was coffee notes in this beer as well. It kind of surprised me this was a pretty complex beer.

M= Medium mouthful carbonation was on the point. nice roasted taste very enjoyable.

D= This was a pretty strong beer I don't know what the ABV was but diffently needed to call a friend over to help with the growler. Very nice complex black IPA. I'm glad this was my first black IPA very nice beer would diffently reccomend it and it was a shame that this only available for a short time.

Had today at the brewery. Review from notes on the phone.

A- Pours a deep dark brown..almost black but when held to the light there were red tints to it on the sides. 1/2 finger tan head leaves slippery soapy lacing that slides back down into the beer. Good looking black IPA.

S- Bitter hoppy notes in this clash with more of a roasted malt backbone. There is a slight aroma of alcohol present in this beer but nothing that takes away from the hops or malt. Light coffee or burnt chocolate also in the nose as well.

T- Nice bitter hop bite in the front of this beer. This is taken over by a roasted malt balance in the middle of this beer. The taste of light coffee notes come through with this beer as well in the ending I thought. As this beer warmed up the alcohol was more present. This does make it a little difficult in the ending of this beer. I was busy talking though and let this warm up too quickly..haha.

M- Medium mouthfeel to this. Carbonation was pretty good with this beer. Left a nice hoppy roasted malt balance on the palate and also in the aftertaste of this beer. I found this enjoyable inbetween sips.

D- This was a very drinkable beer and I bought a growler of it for later consumption. I am glad to see this beer around as they have been making great things there as of late.

Had this at Shoreline the other day. According to the menu this was brewed in commemoration of their 200th batch (hence the name). The color is almost completely black and opaque. Held up to light, you can just barely see some red peeking through on the top edge. Left about a 1/4" of head with loads of lacing. The smell is a wonderful hop overload, as well as the taste. Incredibly bitter, but there's a great malt character to it as well. Kind of tastes like a Robert the Bruce mixed with a Dreadnaught IPA. This beer really must be sipped, it will stay with you for a while after you drink it too. I don't know how long it will be there so I would suggest getting some as soon as possible! Great stuff.
