Made a short detour here going from the Livery to Chicago. Located just off the Shoreline of Lake Michigan in an old ware house or industrial building. We were greeted at the front door by a dog tied out up front that was less friendly than you would expected as it barked at us as we approached and sounded like it could use a beer. We entered and pulled up to the bar which had a decent sized group of people there. The place was very well lit and open with not too much decoration. The website also has some good pictures of the setup. Above the bar was a row of shelves with a collection of growlers from other brewpubs, which I donated 2 of mine before leaving. Behind the bar was all glass which all the brewing equipment could be seen through and the brewer was currently brewing while we were there. The menu covered a nice variety of food which we had a couple of the appetizers. The Sourdough Pretzels were just about the best I’ve had and our other appetizer was solid as well. Looks like it would have been a great place to get a meal. The bartender was the brewer’s brother and was extremely friendly and we talked to him about the place the whole time and the place seems to be doing extremely well since its opening in August 05.

Now onto the beer of which there were 10 of on tap. There was a good variety of styles available Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stouts, Pilsner, Porter, Lager, IPA, Spiced Ale and a second runnings of their barley wine mild. I started with the Sum Nug IPA which was a great hoppy IPA hopped with Summit and Nugget hops that I ended up getting a growler of. The doppelbock was solid as was the oatmeal stout. The Drunken Toad Small and Hoppy beer was great stuff as well. It was made from the second runnings of the barley wine and he “Hopped the shit out of it” as the bartender put it. I would agree, it was hoppy and bitter and would make an excellent hophead session beer. Solid beers all around with some very good ones, I was a bit disappointed that coming soon was there Scottish Ale which is supposed to be great. Very nice little spot that was not out of the way at all if you are going by with good beer and very friendly service. I can see why they are doing so well and will stop by any time I am in the area.

Not the prettiest place or in the prettiest neighborhood. The wood paneled walls might be going for an old lake cottage or dive bar feel but it wasn't really my thing. Food took forever to come out and when it did it was pretty mediocre, with my limp fries being the most obvious mistake. Beer was decent however with a nice but not overly exciting selection. Service was fine; I would've liked an apology for just how long the food took though. Price for one of the bottles I bought to go was higher than that listed on the menu which always annoys me, especially when it's a menu they clearly have to print up relatively often.

Great little "gem". I love their BA beers that you can purchase to go. Hopefully they stay relatively under the radar so I can continue to stop by EVERY time i'm nearby to buy some BA bottles and enjoy a great meal and a beer.

The requisite interesting old building.
Large enough draft selection, more regulars but a few seasonals/one offs.
Vintage bottles are a tad high, but the market bears it I guess. I still bought the last 2011 Lost Sailor.
Food was excellent. The place was packed on a non-football Sunday afternoon, looked like mostly with people for meals.
