Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a big Founders CBS glass.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy peach like amber orange. Lots of bubbles and a decent one finger of off white head that fades into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A sweet, fruity, toasty, and fairly boozy wheat driven aroma with big hints of whiskey barrel. Upfront barrel presence with hints of bourbon whiskey, vanilla, maple syrup, oak, and wood. Sweet bready wheat and toasty malt with hints of sweet caramel, toffee, grains, yeast, butterscotch, and nuts. Sweet fruit hints of mango, orange, grapefruit, and peach. Hints of sugar and honey add more sweetness. Some subtle earthy hops in the background. Light hints of pepper and clove like spice. A pretty interesting and good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very sweet and bready wheat driven taste with big notes of bourbon whiskey and maple syrup. Big barrel presence upfront with notes of bourbon whiskey, maple syrup, vanilla, oak chips, and wood. Bready presence of wheat and toasted malt with notes of sweet caramel, toffee, butterscotch, yeast, grains, straw, and nuts. Sweet fruity notes of mango, peach, orange, and slight grapefruit. More sweetness from some notes of candied sugar and honey. Light taste of pepper like spice. Hops are fairly subtle. Overall a pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Pretty chewy and syrupy. Sweet but actually has a fairly drying finish. Some alcohol heat is felt but its still pretty smooth considering its 12.6.

Overall: A very good twist on a wheatwine brew. Big bourbon and maple syrup presence with some nice wheat and toasty caramel malt.

Note: Have had this on more than one occasion but first review. Aged for two years

Look, brown caramel looking beer with good head and retentions. To be fair the only knock would be the amount of sediment floating in it. It doesn't bother me at all but strictly rating on look you'd have to mark off for this.

Smell is perfect. a blend of sweet bourbon and vanilla smacks you in the face. Like a backwoods backwoods on steroids.

The taste an insanely mellow sweet bourbon brew. Caramel and vanilla are in the distance enough to balance out the bourbon. One of the best tasting barrel aged beers I've ever had.

The feel is so mellow and smooth. This is definitely a sip and enjoy the glass as long as possible kind of beer.

Overall I've had this beer when it first came out and it was pretty good then, but this beer should be the poster child of what aging the right beer can do. Wish I had more of them to pop. World class for sure.

Pours a honey tinged golden with a thinner white head atop, maple really stands out in the nose along with mild toasted oak and like others have noted a bit of butterscotch, quite warming.Maple, vanilla and toast flavors at the onset with some brown sugar and sweet alcohol lingering in the finish,at no point does it become cloying.A big sipper but packed with flavor, you can tell all the time and effort that was put into this.

A: A dark amber beer with light copper hue, good clarity and a few small floating particles. The head is thin but long lasting made of creamy, compact off-white bubbles.

S: Lots of alcohol with strong oak aromas bringing mostly cinnamon with some of that green oak character. There is some clear bourbon notes a touch of cherries with a medium wheat and malt sweetness.

T: There is a medium-strong malt sweetness with some wheat flavors and a moderately-light caramel character. There is a medium hops bitterness that gives a balance that is still fairly sweet. Some fresh stone fruit flavors blend in but its the oak and bourbon flavors that take center stage in this flavor profile. Much like the nose the oak imparts flavors of cinnamon, oak with a hint of vanilla all blended with flavors from the bourbon like banana and caramel along with a slight booziness. The finish is long and sweet with the maple becoming much clear in the aftertaste.

M: A creamy, medium-full bodied beer with medium level of carbonation. There is a medium amount of alcohol warmth but not solventy.

O: A very warming, after dinner dessert sort of a beer that has a lot of oak and bourbon flavors on top of a wheat focused barleywine base.

A: Murky and hazy, nothing special about its appearance but this was my first wheatwine

S: Smells pretty sweet and oaked

T: Very sweet taste at first, this is something I could see being good with a dessert

M: Very good mouthfeel, coats your tongue without being too hot

O: This is a great beer but not something I would craze. I can see how some may love this due to it being sweeter than your typical barleywine or imperial stout

Sweet and boozy with the barrels adding maple, vanilla, bourbon and coconut, making it one to enjoy over the course of an evening. Wish I had more.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Orangish with decent white head and light lacing.

Smell: Oak, bourbon, vanilla, coconut, caramel and maple syrup.

Taste: Very Bourbon forward, with oak, vanilla, coconut, maple syrup and booze. Some light caramel and toffee, like a Barleywine, but not as forceful. While the beer is certainly sweet, the finish is more biting, with oak, vanilla and burnt syrup.

Feel: Silky smooth fairly and creamy. Not as thick as I expected. Dries up a little on the finish, making this much easier to sip than expected.

Overall: Nice to have another great Backstage beer from Founders, after some relatively weak ones over the course of the last year and a half. Not quite as good as Nemesis 2009, but still damn good.
