Coffee lovers, this one’s for you, straight from the mind of our R&D Brewer. We reached out to our local coffee-roasting friends at Ferris Coffee & Nut for the featured ingredient: copious amounts of Mackinac Fudge coffee. Roasted, bold and perfectly balanced with just a hint of sweetness, it fits right into our esteemed line of coffee beers.

Smells like fudge, tastes like rich flourless chocolate cake with hints of coffee. This is a dessert beer balanced with enough bitterness to not be cloying. Super tasty, one of the better stouts I’ve had! Sweet but super balanced too.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter
This beer pours black and is topped with an inch of mocha head that leaves decent lacing.
The smell is decadent with fudge, dark chocolate, and coffee.
The taste equals the smell in greatness. I taste cocoa, dark chocolate, some coffee in the finish, and of course fudge.
Full bodied with a smooth, slick mouthfeel
This is a great dessert beer. I'm having it for lunch though.

12oz bottle purchased at Detroit taproom. Bottled 9/17/18.
Pour: rich dark brown, almost black. Two finger tan head. Dissipates to a layer of clouds and a heavy ring. Slight bubble lacing. Really nice looking.
Nose: coffee, fudge and some more fudge. It’s definitely a coffee beer but surpringly robust chocolate nose. Smells great.
Taste: dark roast coffee upfront. Chocolate fudge right there with the coffee although not as robust as in the nose. Some malt sweetness on the backend. Maybe a hint of dark fruits. Lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: medium to light carbonation feel, despite the great head, about as you would expect for a stout. Thinner than I would have guessed from the nose but consistent with less fudge taste. Doesn’t stay on the tongue long.
Overall: I like this but won’t likely make a trip for more. Will age a bottle for fun. The look and nose are awesome. The taste and mouthfeel ok. I love coffee, and fudge, but somehow I’m not that into this. Would go with breakfast stout before this. Worth a try but I’d get a bottle or two before committing to more. That said, fairly reasonably priced ($7 something for four bottles, inclu deposit).
