If only there were more IPAs of this type that hit the mark like Founders Red's IPA does. The caramel really jumps out on the nose and on the pallette. Lots of fruity hops on the nose. At 70 IBUs, this hits the sweet-spot on the pallette. Really really tasty.

On draft at the HopCat in DTW midtown.

Pours a beautiful hazy ruby red with an off white head. Smells of pepper, rye, hops, anise, and bread. Tastes of rye, anise, citrus, pepper, other spices, caramel, and some sweetness. Medium creamy body with medium carbonation. Overall an excellent rye beer by Founders.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a sturdy burnt dark orange almost mahogany color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that glistened and slid off at a mild pace. Slight lace.
The aroma started florally sweet taking in the smooth caramel/toffee malt tones running through the overall nose and gathering in a touch of some spicy hops.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a nice floral to semi-rye like spiciness gliding into each other and to weave a really nice aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt just as good.
Some smoothness, but also enough harsh embrace - if anything nice balance.
Overall, really nice all around fairly easy drinking rye beer that is well worthy of coming back to.
