A: Murkey and hazy maroonish red color with copper highlights. A tan colored head that built one finger tall with low retension. As the foam fell it left a dusting on top with some larger bubbles on the edge of the glass.

S: Moderate grapefruit and dank pine hop aroma when first poured, but it disipates quickly giving way to the spicey, earthy rye and malt aroma. As it warmed up even more malt was apperant, toasty and somewhat toffee like.

T: A firm flavorful piney bitterness on the first. Other hop flavors follow through till the end in the way of danker grapefruit and citrus. The spicey rye flavor emphasises the bitterness making it seem more dry and bitter than the aroma would lead. caramel and breadcrust malt flavors also comethrough and clean neutral fermentation.

M: A very dry finish with low/mild carbonation make it very drinkable dispite the BU and ABV level.

O: Complex hop and malt flavors in great synergy with a nice dry finish. I just wish the hop aroma would stick around longer, maybe its fighting with the rye. Great beer either way.

Bottled 8/11/13.

Poured into a Sierra Nevada IPA glass from the 12 oz. bottle.

a: Deep clear amber, inch tall off-white head receded slowly to heavy surface foam and quite a bit of variegated lacing.

s: Pretty intense pine/citrus. 70 IBUs is suggested before any drinking occurs.

t: Plenty of pine hops bitterness over a sweet light malt base. Very tasty. Bitterness lingers on the tongue but not irritatingly so.

m: Light to moderate, almost fluffy smoothness. Nice!

o: Glad I finally latched onto a fresh bottle. The one I had last Spring was probably six months old by the time it got to my mouth. Hoppy yes! Wonderfully sippable. Like drinking pine sap if it was good beer. Now I get its popularity.

UPDATE 7/14/14: Had a bottle I bought on the cheap at Spirit Haus in Amherst about ten days ago. It was dated 8/13/13! Too weak to see with the naked eye in normal light in the store. It's smooth but not all that hoppy. Very good, but not great. Worth what I paid ($2).
