I get a resinous deep rich west coast hop smell with some spicy sweetness. The sweet hop flavor is very noticeable The thick malty rye bread taste builds as you take more sips. It mixes with the hops very well and the citric resinous herbal bitterness really makes this just like a top notch IPA.

While easily being mistaken for an IPA it does have a thick rich rye taste but what i like about it is that its a sweet taste. As I drink more the more flavorful it becomes. The rye really comes out and the thick malty sweetness does as well. What a complex beer.

Hands down my favorite rye beer. Not only because of the obvious amazing west coast ipa hop flavor and bitterness but because of just how tasty that malty sweet rye is. As I'm sure others can tell you this is just all around a really great beer.

In a pint glass this beer was a bright cherry amber color. It had a medium-sized tan head, and there was a bit of lace.

Very citrusy, fruity aroma. Sweet malt and rye.

Taste followed form, only better than the aroma let on. Lots of grapefruit, also a little pineapple. Malt and rye, with a strong malt background.

Nice and hoppy. Great beer.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that has reduced now to a thin layer. It is a copper amber color with good clarity and some signs of carbonation coming through the glass.

Smell: lots of citrus from the amarillo hops, bready and caramel malts, and some spiciness from the rye.

Taste: once again folks, lots of citrus. That balances out well with the all the characteristics of the malts. Some lingering bitterness in the end also.

Mouthfeel: smooth, a little chewy, medium bodied, medium carbonation, and easy to drink on this steamy 4th.

Overall: Another rye beer to add to the list. Would be interesting to see a variety of hops, but you can't go wrong with amarillo. Will be enjoying more of these in the future.

This beer pours a clear copper with no head or lace. The aroma is mainly grapefruit with caramel in the background. The flavor is pure hop bitterness which completely overpowers the palate. It's mouthfeel is light-medium and leaves a strong, bitter aftertaste. Founders Reds Rye PA is a disappointing, one-dimensional beer. Not recommended.

A gorgeous beer! Nearly clear and deep orange-amber in color with a light tan substantial head that recedes leaving great lacing. Tons of carbonation bubbles.

Aroma of sweet rich malts upfront combining with plenty of spicy/piney hops to give a good impression of ripe grapefruit.

Taste is of lightly sweet malt with tart rye that lasts and lasts, finishing off with the bitterness of grapefruit peel.

The body is rather thick and the beer clings to the mouth without actually being sticky. Plenty of warming alcohol in the middle.

This is an excellent beer, even with being on the thick side for a pale ale. Very easy to drink. A great summer brew.

I had one to try. Then another. Then another. Wow this beer is delicious. Bit west coast hop profile on the nose. Pine, citrus, wonderful. Sip starts with that flavor, then transitions into the wonderful taste of the rye, which is big but still spicy. Great mix of spice and sweet. Hops carry the whole time. Nice clean finish for such a crazy beer. Really just wonderful.
