The beer poured a deep amber that produced an off-white head that was very well retained. Very nice.

The beer gave off a very nice, but very bitter, hoppy aroma. I was expecting more of a grain/rye aroma, but none the less, still good.

The taste, as with the nose, was more hoppy than expected of a Rye Pale Ale. The flavor did have a rye component to it, but I had a hard time getting over the bitter, pine and citrus hops. Still, good flavor to it.

The beer had a heavier feel to it than expected, but it was probably right. The beer had good carbonation and was easy to drink. Overall, a very good beer, perhaps a little heavy on the hops and perhaps why in my book the score suffers a little, but none-the-less, this is one that I will enjoy often.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a stunning light red, head has decent retention and leaves thick rings of lacing.

Smells of citric hops, caramel, and rye.

Taste: Heavy grapefruit and pine from the hops, caramel is present but isn't quite as prevalent as in the nose. The rye malt is present throughout and blends with the hop bitterness very nicely.

Feels light/medium bodied, a bit slick with the hop resin. Smooth. Despite the bitterness, this is very drinkable.

Overall: So this is a rye beer? What a treat. Another excellent beer from Founders.
