12 oz. bottle into pint glass.

A: Ruby/amber colored beer with a fairly sustained, thick, one-finger khaki-colored head.

S: Nose is nice and complex. It's hoppy, earthy, a bit spicy, malty...a lot going on. Very nice.

T: Also has an equally complex taste. It's fairly hoppy up front, smacking the palate with pine and grapefruit. The beer switches gears a bit and turns really earthy and malty. Finally, the rye spice peaks through at the end and leaves a bitter, spicy, rye aftertaste. Very tasty.

M: Mouthfeel is appropriately thick and smooth. Goes down nice and easy. No issues here.

O: Certainly the epitome of the style. Looks good, nose is amazing, taste is nice and complex, and mouthfeel is good. This one is a classic. I really judge all rye beers against this one. A think a bit more of caramel malt sweetness would really put it over the top, though.

Nonetheless, a great treat.

poured from a 10oz bottle into a tumbler, bottled 9/19/11

Appearance is a nice hazy red/amber with an off-white frothy head, some lacing. Smell is of citrus, pine and resin hops (mostly pine and resin). General smell profile is sweet and spicy. Some sweetness from the malt. Smells like a DIPA. Taste is sweet resin and citrus hops. It is quite light and starts off intensely bitter and perhaps bit peppery? Less bitter over time, a bit of caramel malt taste. Very little alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is very light and bitter with some spiciness, med-high carb.

A light, spicy, and bitter beer. Smells like a DIPA, tastes like a light IPA. Not sure if I picked out the rye at all. But a nice beer. Interesting note: leaves a slight coolness (menthol like taste/feeling) in the salivary gland region.
