Notes / Commercial Description:
A Founders take on a classic style, brewed with a generous amount of flaked oats, chocolate malt, roasted barley and a healthy helping of Nugget hops, Founders Oatmeal Stout is nitrogen-infused to give it an extra smooth and creamy mouthfeel. An attractive cascade effect gives this beer its forthright visual appeal—and the body and clean flavor deliver on that initial promise.

On nitro at World of Beer Tioga (Gainesville, FL). Pours pitch black with a beautiful creamy espresso head on top. Aroma of next to nothing here, maybe some lightly roasted malts, water, that’s it. Flavor follows incredibly bland, watered down roast with very little else going on. Thin mouthfeel even for nitro--which always comes off thin to me, despite the silkiness--and low carbonation. Overall, I would take this over Guinness, but it’s just not my style. What’s the point? I’d just rather drink water and save the liver.

On nitro-tap 10/12/2014 at Doherty’s Ale East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large dense foamy beige head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, oats, coffee and chocolate.

T: The taste starts out with a hearty roasted malt character and toasted oats. Then some flavors of coffee and chocolate come in. The hops presence is very mild but complementary and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, light carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid stout to pound down for a long time if you’re in the mood for the style.

On tap at the Lark in East Northport, NY. Looks dark as hell with a creamy 1 finger tan head that faded and left great foamy lacing and rings as it went down. Smells and tastes of roasted grains, coffee, oats, cocoa powder, herbs, charcoal, floral hops and caramel. Very smooth, creamy and full of roasted coffee and cocoa notes, it was light bodied and thin with a smooth watery feel. Goes down very easy and another fine brew from Founders with a nice low ABV which makes it quite sessionsble.
