This one is near and dear to our hearts. Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki wanted to make the birthday of his little sister, Liz, a special one. So he did what he does best and brewed a stout using a few of her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla aged in bourbon barrels to round out those beautiful flavors. Liz was floored and we think you will be too.

Sampling a cellar temp 750 ML bottle poured into my snifter. the beer pours a dark chocolate brown with a creamy tan head foaming up 3 cm even with fairly gentle pour. The head sticks around with a sturdy surface layer and densely packed lattice after each sip. The aroma is big, boozy, sweet and fruity. I get dark chocolate notes some bourbon and a bit of vanilla mixing together. Of course some blueberry shows up as well. In general a sweet boozy nose lets me know this is a big beer.
First sip reveals a big syrupy body with spacious carbonation. The beer has a sticky texture and coats my palate after each sip.
The flavor is dark chocolate and vanilla, with a good dose of bourbon. The finish is slightly tart blueberries and some warming booze.
The beer is big and definitely a sipper with quite a bit of sweetness and booze on the finish. No hops anywhere on nose or in the flavor, so dont expect any bite. A sticky coating is the main result of each sip with a bit of a lingering blueberry tartness. Definitely not for everyone and could be too sweet to finish solo. If that sounds okay to you then give this beer a shot.

Mellowed out compared to when I had it on draft ~6 years ago. Better than Saugatuck Blueberry Maple probably, but definitely no Paisley Cave.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Enticing aroma, roast malts, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Can’t say I can detect the blueberries. In the flavour the blueberries come through quite distinctly though, with a fruitiness that meets the sweetness of the malts. The expected notes of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon are there, but more in the background. Too sweet and fruity for an imperial stout? Perhaps, but this is a great beer anyway.

2015 Bottle
750ml bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours jet black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that has good retention before settling to a film floating on top

S- aroma is dominated by blueberry; stewed blueberries up front followed by some blueberry candy notes. Undertones of chocolate, vanilla, wet oak, molasses and caramelized sugar

T- as with the aroma blueberry dominates the flavor; stewed blueberries up front, with a slightly artificial blueberry note that follows. almost like sugary candy. Beyond the blueberry, undertones of cocoa, vanilla cream, caramel and a hint of coffee. The finish gives like bourbon oak, with an onslaught of blueberries in the linger

M- medium-heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a thick and creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety warming finish

O- blueberry and more blueberry, my only complaint is that it's so dominate that it turns slightly artificial in the finish

This stout is one of my all time favorites. Thick body, heavy dark chocolate notes and juicy blueberry sweetness, with a nice booze balance. Unbelievably good beer!
