This one is near and dear to our hearts. Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki wanted to make the birthday of his little sister, Liz, a special one. So he did what he does best and brewed a stout using a few of her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla aged in bourbon barrels to round out those beautiful flavors. Liz was floored and we think you will be too.

This is definitely a beer that needs to be split up between two, three, or four people. It's very sweet but I can still pick up on the blueberry (even though it's slightly medicinal) and the booziness of the barrel. Dessert beer and pretty good.

Mellowed out compared to when I had it on draft ~6 years ago. Better than Saugatuck Blueberry Maple probably, but definitely no Paisley Cave.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Enticing aroma, roast malts, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Can’t say I can detect the blueberries. In the flavour the blueberries come through quite distinctly though, with a fruitiness that meets the sweetness of the malts. The expected notes of chocolate, vanilla and bourbon are there, but more in the background. Too sweet and fruity for an imperial stout? Perhaps, but this is a great beer anyway.

2015 Bottle
750ml bottle poured into a tulip
A- pours jet black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that has good retention before settling to a film floating on top
S- aroma is dominated by blueberry; stewed blueberries up front followed by some blueberry candy notes. Undertones of chocolate, vanilla, wet oak, molasses and caramelized sugar
T- as with the aroma blueberry dominates the flavor; stewed blueberries up front, with a slightly artificial blueberry note that follows. almost like sugary candy. Beyond the blueberry, undertones of cocoa, vanilla cream, caramel and a hint of coffee. The finish gives like bourbon oak, with an onslaught of blueberries in the linger
M- medium-heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a thick and creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety warming finish
O- blueberry and more blueberry, my only complaint is that it's so dominate that it turns slightly artificial in the finish

This stout is one of my all time favorites. Thick body, heavy dark chocolate notes and juicy blueberry sweetness, with a nice booze balance. Unbelievably good beer!
