Pours a hazy deep amber/brown producing 2+ fingers of moderately lasting, creamy but variously bubbled, chunky, moderately lasting, beige head that leaves nice sticky webs of lace. Aroma is thick caramel, brown sugar, light vanilla, floral, pine resin & citrus hops swimming in alcohol booze. Taste is burnt caramel malt sweetness well balanced with cedar, pine & citrus hops up front with hops dominating by mid-sip, becoming full throttle by the finish & delightfully bitter in the aftertaste. Starts predominantly sweet before turning hoppy, finishing dry, extremely hoppy & bitter. Alcohol prominent throughout & expressed as warmth, bitterness & spice. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with low-medium carbonation, oily & syrupy, mouth coating, gritty on the tongue & slightly astringent in the aftertaste.

A - nice cloudy amber color as expected
S - citrus, pine, the usual
T - tons of flavor but the booziness seems out of place. Maybe I'm just being picky, or maybe it was an imperfect batch. I know it takes a lot to perfect a monster like this.
M - great carbonation, but still manages to be a little syrupy.
O - buy it again, still one of my all time favorites, maybe not for $5 though

Poured from 12oz short bottle into tulip. Bottled on May 10th 2016.

L: Rich red orange color. Finger width head with excellent retention. Beautiful lacing.

S: Fresh citrus, pine notes and some herbal spiciness.

T: Strong alcoholic bite with hop bitterness that is almost chewy. Lots of orange zest and other citric notes, a hint of pine in the finish, quite unbalanced but at this point who cares?

F: Medium bodied with good carbonation. Lots of hoppy oils on the tongue but not too slick.

O: I think this would be better with a lower ABV but still a stellar brew from Founders.

Ahhhh, dancing with Mr. D., the quintessential master manipulator. Through guile and artifice you have the masses convinced you are nothing more than an ordinary triple IPA, but in reality you are a delicious barleywine. The jig is up.

L: Pours a hazy copper/reddish hue.
S: Orange, grapefruit, pine, caramel, biscuit, roasted nuts. Something funky mixed in there but I can't place it.
T: Tons of flavor. Caramel sweetness mixed with citrusy hops. Booze is definitely there.
F: Thick, coats the tongue. Big booziness on the finish.
O: Monster of a beer. Good, but I'm not surprised that it was removed from the release calendar for 2017.

Not something for everyday, but good for something different. Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Nice beige head and good lacing, rich copper color. Boozy smell and taste. Nuttiness and sweet caramel taste. Nice with cheese and crackers.

Pours a hazy copper color, with cream colored head that isn't big, but laces all day. Smells of flowers and citrus fruit with a pleasant burnt sugar background. One of the nicest smelling beers I've ever smelled. For a beer with such a bitter profile, the taste is wonderfully balanced. Each thick, creamy sip starts with a caramel sweetness at the top, which quickly sinks into bitter hops that leave you with a nice, hoppy aftertaste. For a 12% ABV brew, there's little hint of alcohol in the taste. A fairly complex and well-balanced beer, without any one aspect overpowering the others. Definitely premium and worth the price.
