reDANKulous Imperial Red IPA is a no frills, bold 9.5% ABV India Pale Ale. It pours a pleasing burnt amber with some sweetness due to the Caramalt and roasted barley used in the malt bill. But hops are the true headliner in this elaborate sensory experience. The spicy, piney, tropical complexities of Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops hit you right away with their dank aroma—and they stick around. Take a sip to have your palate simultaneously walloped and caressed in all the right places. Combined, the hops take the beer to 90 IBUs. It’s not just ridiculous. It’s reDANKulous.

An imperial red ipa? It reminds me a lot of a hoppy barleywine or an american strong ale like arrogant bastard ale. It's very nice anyway with a good part on the caramel and a grapefruit, resiny and herbal hop character

Though it says Imperial Red IPA, it’s actually quite a bit less hoppy than most Imperial Reds (that aren’t even IPAs).

I dug it.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Pours deep red orange with an off white head. Smells of citrus hops and caramelized grain. Tastes of grassy hops with citrus notes and nice caramelized grain. Beer is medium bodied yet very easy drinking for the ABV, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Founders is great and their beers are exceptional - whatever I had from them, including this one, was just outstanding. Of course, it helps that I love Amber Ales too, because this seems to be an intense version of that type of beer.
When I opened the bottle, the aroma just hit me, it is extremely juicy hoppy - dank, just like its name, reDANKulously hoppy. Zesty, somewhat citrusy, earthy, piney but most of all, dank hops. Almost like a kind of hop honey.
And then comes the taste, you know that trademark red ale feel, very intensive on hops AND malts at the same time. Sweetness and bitterness and juiciness. Exremely good. Some amber ales tend to be a bit overwhelming, but this one, even it is an Imperial one, is drinkable, perfectly well balanced and has absolutely nothing against it. Nothing.
I loved its booziness, it alao hits you in the aroma and slightly in the taste, like a brandy or straight alcohol. Sometimes you need these kinds of drinks, like barley wine.
I had this on the “4th day of Christmas” and it was perfect for the occassion, almost like a winter warmer - without the annoying spice.
Founders is a true master brewery, if you don’t believe me, try any of their beers!

Bottled summer 2015; drank 9/18/15 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque red/purple appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge khaki head; a thick curtain of lace.

Fresh ganja, pine needle & pineapple notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Pine needle & caramel flavors up front; grapefruit bite on the finish. No booze heat.

I missed the pineapple notes promised in the nose & this pinier than I like my DIPAs, but this was still mildly enjoyable.

Deep red (almost copper) color. Poured from bottle into pint glass. Thick head. Malty taste throughout. High abv. Is a good sipper. Darker and more malty throughout than most ipas. Good mix of red and high pt ipa.
