Given to me by a friend. 1St time getting ahold of it although I've heard great things about it through the years. Poured into a tulip sniffer glass. Date code, bottled on 9-20-17. Today is 10-24-17. I would've liked to have gotten this bottle much sooner but hey, beggars can't be choosers.
L- It has the appearance of a copper filtered ipa and has a two finger head poured down the side.
S- definitely first smell is biscuity, yeasty in the beginning but with hops smelling of fresh resiny pine oils.
T- bigger bodied taste than I had expected, as the hops in use here on the front are dominated by floral hops. Resiny on the back end with virtually no malt detected in taste to speak of.
F- again, resinous. In fact, this is really the point where the resinis hops is most prevalent and when this beer shines brightest. The taste of pine hops resin is felt in the mouth with light carbonation.
Overall- a very good harvest ale. Phenomenal use of resinous and floral tastes, very Michigan of them to generalize. I believe I am a victim of over hyping and then slight disappointment as a result although, this is not Founders fault at all. It is a great harvest ale. Although, I do believe there are some that would come on top in comparison, fathead brewery's hop stalker for one and then Columbus brewery's Yakima fresh are also phenomenal. Although this ale has a better feel than both of those. Also, my review is indicative to when I received this beer, had it been one or even two weeks after bottling, I know it would have tasted better.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a one finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of biscuit and mildly caramel malt, piney and citrus hops, orange, melon, hints of light stone fruit, nicely herbal hops with hints of winter warmer spices. Flavor is piney and citrus hops, pine needles, lemon, mango, orange. Finishes with nice alpha oil piney hops with hints of citrus hops. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A very nicely made wet hop from this mid-western brewery that stands up well against the many excellent wet and fresh hop IPAs that have flooded in this year with the hop harvest. This has more of a NW profile than most Eastern IPAs, but it's hop bill is piney, although with a good complexity. I almost didn't buy this because I was not sure how fair it would be against the fresh hops that have been coming in, but no problem, this is a flavorful and well balanced hoppy IPA. Well done.

Bottled ~5 weeks ago.

L — Pours a filtered pale copper color with a nice, dense 2.5-finger white head produced with moderate pour. Great retention and lacing
S — Has a big, sticky resinous/floral character upfront. A touch of grapefruit peel, bready malts, and peach
T — Lots of dank piney, resinous, earthy, ‘green’ flavors. Definitely wet-hopped! Also getting some nice citrus pith, fresh cut grass, melon, and floral
F — Crisp, smooth drinking thanks to the filtration going on here. Medium mouthfeel, medium+ carb. Maybe a little too slippery around the edges
O — Wet-hopped ales are pretty fun to drink. It’s probably mostly placebo, but I swear I can *feel* the freshness of the hops being used. Wish this one were just a hair cheaper, though…

Poured from a bottle dated 9/19/17 into the test glass.
A - Dark golden color, steady carbonation feeds a long lasting cap. Lacing rings with each draw.
S - Mango, passion fruit, sweet light malts, nice grassy element, warm rising bready note.
T - Biscuit to start then along comes the hop oils, subtle and well balanced, fruity, with just a hint of juniper.
M - Soft on the palate. just a bit oily, the carbonation ushers the sweet side out, leaving a near perfect bitter bite. The linger is short and conifer based.
O - A very nice offering, excellent feel, with delightful aromatics. So glad to have found it

From the back label: "BOTTLED ON 09.20.17 0901 2"

Appearance: The body is brilliantly clear with a nice shade of light gold. The head looks fantastic; it's large and white with a fluffy texture. The head has great retention and it never seems to go down. It's picture perfect.

Aroma: The beer has this big aroma of what smells mostly like mango with a mix of tangerine and grapefruit. It has a very enticing aroma.

Taste: The beer has a very similar flavor to the aroma where mango seems to be the dominant flavor with some grapefruit. Added to the mix is a nice pine flavor bite and a bit of grain flavor.

Mouthfeel: It has good bitterness and carbonation with an off-dry finish. In the middle and towards the end it feels a touch thin.

Overall: It's a good beer with some excellent flavors and aromas. There isn't much to say for a beer that speaks for itself. I would recommend it and it's a good beer to pick up this time of year. I would drink it again.

The clear dark golden yellow beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 3/4" ivory head that recedes slowly but visibly leaving a ring and legs of lacing on the sides of the glass. Sipping creates patches and legs of lacing, most of which slide back down the side of the glass.

The aromas include some pine resin and grapefruit zest backed up by just a bit of caramel malt.

The flavors have lots of nice grapefruit and pine resin bitterness with just a touch of sweetness from the malt to soften things a bit and add to the complexity. But this one is definitely all about the wet hops.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and only slightly prickly from the light but persistent carbonation. The finish begins as the pine resin and grapefruit begin to slowly fade both allowing that touch of sweetness to reappear before it too disappears leaving only a gentle, slowly fading bitterness.

A well made beer that captures nicely the character of a wet hopped IPA with some added complexity of a bit of malt sweetness showing here and there.

Served on draft. I think this is a very good beer, but it doesn't strike me as having as much fresh hop character as I'm used to in fresh hop beers from the Pacific Northwest. It's hoppy, for sure, and dank. It's surprisingly malty, and even just a bit sweet. It's delicious, but it doesn't have that super fresh floral pop that I expect from fresh hop beers.

From a bottle, pours a clear, deep gold. A couple of fingers of foam is dense and leaves solid lacing. Smell has lots of spicy herbs, citrus and earthy, floral notes. Taste is similar, with lots of sticky resin and spicy hops. Some malt on the finish. Definitely different than your normal beer made with dried hops or lupulin powder. Really excellent.

While decent there is nothing here that excites me. Just an average beer that does not justify it's status as a being sold in four packs. Probably would not buy again
