Bottle poured into a Founders snifter

A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy light tan head that settles to a nice layer and leaves some sticky lacing.

S: Tropical fruit, citrus, pine, grassy, floral, lightly toasted malt, and some caramel sweetness.

T: Resinous pine, tropical notes, passion fruit, citrus, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, a bit grassy, lightly toasted malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: This was one of the beers I was excited about trying when we finally started getting Founders in my area. It doesn't disappoint. Everything you want from a wet hop beer.

APPEARANCE: Poured into a Firestone-Walker Proprietor’s Reserve glass, the very white head foams up nicely towards the top of the glass and creates a finger-and-a-half, pillowy blanket that appears to rest, weightlessly, on top of a pale orange-yellow beer. The beer itself is extremely lively, with dozens of streams of tiny bubbles racing upwards from the etching on the bottom of the glass.

SMELL: Dank and piney with some authority. A little grass aroma sneaks in as well along with some grapefruit nuances. Solid aroma.

TASTE: That piney flavors come through big time in this, along with a more pronounced grapefruit taste than the nose suggested. Orange peel and lemon linger underneath, providing more citrus and bitterness, but they’re balanced out by some very subtle, but very nice tropical fruit flavors; mango and pineapple primarily.

MOUTHFEEL: The first sip was sweeter than I expected and therefore it took me a few sips to realize that this was still on the dry side, but not as dry as I expected it to be. There is enough malt and tropical fruit to give it a hint of sweet. The body is medium and, surprisingly, it coats the palate with some bittersweet fruit flavors to leave a pleasant finish.

OVERALL: I’ve been waiting to try this one for a long time and, as usual, Founders is Founders. They simply make great beer. I cannot wait to snag this one again next year. Hopefully they’re in Colorado by then!

Poured from bottle into tulip, 1 finger cream colored head, dissipates rather quickly, nice lacing. Bright cloudy golden in the glass, no visible yeast particles. Smells citrus, toasted malt, some tropical action going on. Taste faintly of pineapple, mild citrus bitterness with some toasted malt on the finish. Mild bitterness keeps things in check. Nice semi dry finish with a little sweetness. Nice mouthfeel, ABV hidden well and no lingering bitterness.

Basically this is a beer in which it is exactly what you get from the description on the bottle. It has a hazy golden color, that is perfect in a tulip glass, and the taste of juicy hops of citrus exploding on your palate. Interesting enough you must drink this beer right away. I drunk one on one week and had another the following week and the hops weren't as juicy. You want this beer fresh from the barrel as possible. Also compared to Sierra Nevada's Northern Hemisphere of similar philosophy in brewing with wet hops, Founders destroyer Sierra on taste. Although sierra has a cooler darker look. Perhaps it's based on the type of hops, Founders is more citrus, Sierra is more piney. Either way try this beer and enjoy.

Pale orange with two fingers of white froth that settle quickly leaving little evidence behind. Slightly musty with faint light fruit (pear, orange, peach), florals, herb and oil. Quite smooth with herbal, oily hops forward followed by notes of grapefruit, pear and faint spice. Lighter in body than expected. A tasty treat that does not overwhelm but doesn't bore the taste buds either.

Single 12 ounce bottle, on to the beer:

Half an inch of head sits above a toasted orange base with spotty lacing clinging around the glass. When I smell it, it smells like a party of citrus fruits. I get the aroma of orange, tangerine, and mango, done with a sweet and fragrant accent. Although the beer's alcohol level goes beyond 7%, the beer is very smooth. Sweet citrus fruits and nothing bitter. The notes of tangerine, mango, grapefruit, passionfruit, popping above a light malt base. It's medium bodied, oily, and a joy to drink.

Give this beer a medal! Another winner in a stable full of winners.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention and lacing are both excellent. Nice, fresh, hoppy, piney, citrus aroma. Great smooth taste. Excellent malt to hop transition. Fresh, citrus, piney resin. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Been waiting for this one for a long time. Very good!

I was really excited to see this come into my store. I had received plenty of calls, "you guys got founders harvest in yet!?" So I was looking forward to taking my pick first... Had it out of the bottle, was way danker than I had expected, had a bitterness that was just not super enjoyable, and being a hop head, I was ready for the licking a wet pine cone taste... Just not super dope like I was hoping. But it was overall a decent harvest ale just was anticipating more. Especially from founders.

I've only had 2 fresh hopped beers (including this one) so I don't have a lot to go on but this harvest ale really hit it out of the park!

L - Golden yellow with nice lacing and a medium head
S - Pine and citrus
T - Orange and pine are very big on the mouth
F - Very smooth and silky with texture, has a good bitter kick but doesn't halt towards the back, it just glides down.

The last wet hopped ale I had was a so-so with me but this one captures everything I love about IPA but goes a notch higher feeling very fresh.

A-pours a clear golden straw color with a white sudsy head with nice retention and lacing
S-lots of dank hops, pine, orange, pineapple
T-more pine, orange, pineapple, apricot, and resiny bitterness in the finish, malt providing a nice balance but not lending much to the flavor
M-medium bodied with average carbonation
O-excellent wet hop IPA that is fruity and dank, definitely would seek out again

It's the perfect beer. I love a good IPA because of the crispness. This Harvest Ale is perfectly balanced. I picked up a 4 pack on the recommendation of another patron of our local beer store, and I am glad I did. Might have to go back to see if they still have some so I can load my beer fridge. It is my all time favorite! Signed up for Beer Advocate just to post on this one.

Pours a nice, golden orange with a thin, creamy, off white head.
A wonderful citrus hop smell with tangerine.
Wonderful balance of hop and malt. Candied citrus fruits. Resin bitterness sticks to tounge. Refreshing finish.

L- clear, dark gold, inch-thick foamy head, leaves lacing
S- pine, citrus, pineapple as well
T- feels like i'm biting into a fresh pine tree, sweet lightly toasted caramel malt, with a bitter piney finish with hints of the aforementioned pineapple
F- light/medium bodied, crisp carbo
O- a extremely solid IPA, well balanced, really enjoy the freshness especially from a National Brewer. Well Done.

Clear gold-copper with a large frothy head dying to a thin blanket leaving a lot of lace.

Smell is really toasty cracker, popcorn and lime with a lightly astringent afterscent.

Taste is orange, lime, Smarties, cracker, and biscuit. Tangy but bitter.

Frothy and medium soft at first, finishing very dry and chewy.

Pours a clear golden color with a tight, white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of floral and pine notes along with citrus.

Tastes of the oily hops with a good malt backbone. Hops lead off with pine resin and floral notes along with some citrus zest. This gives way to sweet malts with caramel and syrupy sweetness. Not particularly bitter. Finishes fairly clean.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a good wet hop ale that showcases the hop oil.

12oz bottle from 4-pack ($13.99). Back of bottle dated 10/03/2016.

Pale yellow, clear elixir poured into SA glass. Two-finger, bright white foam, crags of lacing.

A complex mix of citrus, pine, earth, spice with a subtle malt biscuit.

The taste follows with a the earth, pine coming to the fore front, mingling with a nice grass/mint flavor. The malt is still there, lingering like a detective that had been watching around the corner and now followed to make his arrest.

Light-medium body, a bit of an acidic twang.

Descent wet hopped ale, better than last year but not near the standards set by previous editions. Pricey.

A good beer... a great beer. Really tasty. Another IPA that has me wondering why the abv is so high... 7.6%...really? You're a shade or two away from entering double territory. And I'm wondering if that's necessary.

Harvest... wet hops... why is the malt character so prevalent? It's sweet. It's doughy, bready.... cake? Don't get me wrong, it's delicious, but I guess I was expecting the juicy, bursting citrus hop precence the bottle describes. Uhhh... where?

Hmmm.... it may seem I'm taking a dukey on this beer. I don't mean to. Sometimes I'm a slave to style and description. Knowing Founders I shouldn't have been, i.e. Pale Joe (a pale ale guys? really?) Hey I love that beer too!

What I'm trying to say is that it's a really great beer with the grain bill leading the charge and some... some... citrusy hop character that leads to a surprisingly dry finish.

If you see it... pick it up... enjoy it. It's freakin' good. However, the words on the bottle are seemingly meaningless.

Exactly what a harvest ale should taste like... Aroma of fresh hops....underlying dankness. Taste is of freshed picked hops supported by hop bitterness.

I assume they used pellets for bitterness and the fresh for flavor and aroma which is forefont and on point.

The malt body/sweetness doesn't appear at all, its all hop dankness.....light spicyness on the finish.

Mouth feel is full, moderate/high carbonation.

Couple weeks ago I picked about 2 lbs of fresh hops....That smell was captivating....

This Founders release really brings that smell and taste.... Another Excellent job by Founders.

Drops a yellow color with great clarity especially for a wet hopped ale. Nice 1/2" white head. Drops lots of aroma hops. Seems to hit those new American varieties of hops, simcoe, amarillo.

Wow, just a really almost perfect experience. Imparts tons of hop flavor without going into excessive bitterness territory. The malt bill seems out of the way and neutral, golden promise type of lightly toasted malt to keep this from ever seeming heavy or bogged down in caramel or toffee.

I wish stuff like this was year round and fresh, would be awesome. Definitely a first tier world class harvest ale and ipa, they put it in a great format at a great price too.

Bottle to goblet. Aroma is pine, hops, citrus. Look is pale yellow, small white head, fades. Taste is a bit soapy, with some pine, some citrus. Ok...well...starts off ok, but it wears thin on you.
