I passes on this beer a few times when home last year but this year I grabbed a couple up and actually I am glad I did.A nice deep red pour with a tight thinner but well formed pink head leaving spotty lace around the pint glass, tart "real" raspberry aromas along with an underlying toastiness, very appetizing. The use of all natural fruit makes this beer its sweet and tart and very juicy, what can you say its just damn good.Iam the first to say I shy away from these beers but this is a gem of a fruit beer no doubt.

Rübæus pours a blood-red cranberry color, accented with some deeper crimson in the center. Exceptional clarity - very clean and sharp looking as it sits in the glass. It's capped with a pink-tinted cumulonimbus layer of foam that leaves back some chunky pieces of lacing and is very slow to digress into a skin. A very elegant looking beer.

Raspberry explosion. Very vibrant, this smells like freshly crushed raspberries, reduced and puréed. Aside from a faint, dry malt undertone in the finish, the aroma is all raspberries... It isn't exactly "complex", but the fruit is done pretty well. Unfortunately, there's a mild chalkiness that makes its way in as the beer warms up, but it's nowhere near as potent as, say, Cerise.

"Raspberry juice" is the first thing to come to mind when I take a sip. Soft and sweet with a light residual sweetness backing up the explosion of raspberry flavors. A mild tartness just tingles the back of the tongue but stays far from the realm of "sour". The sweetness is very controlled and apparent all at once - very juicy and jam like in the finish. Raspberries as far as the palate can taste.

The only other things I can possibly identify other than raspberry spin-offs would be some very light, dry grassy notes, but even then, I may just be reaching for something else. Otherwise, this beer is dominated by raspberries, up and down. Again, not the most complex or revealing beer out there, but who needs complexity when you've got raspberries like this? The mouth feel is thin-medium and kind of slick and oily with medium-high carbonation and a nice snap.

Very good fruit beer. Much, much better than its "sister" beer, Cerise. Luckily, the taste didn't include many of the chalky notes I was eventually getting in the aroma, so that's a big plus. Refreshing and easy-going, drinks more like a wine cooler than a beer, but it tastes great and I love raspberries, so I don't care. I'd love to see Founders make this an "every year" specialty.

EDIT: 7/7/2013

After having had quite a few more bottles of this beer this summer, I've come a cross a few that have a slight chalkiness and medicinal character to them. Nothing like Cerise, just a twinge in the background at times. Other bottles seem to be completely void of this, however, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Still a great beer, but maybe not as perfect as I thought it was at first.

I had high hopes for this brew and found a few on the shelf. Quickly grabbed it and put it in the fridge soon after. The pour met my anticipation, a nice clear cranberry red with medium carbonation. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. At first it tastes quite nice there's a definite raspberry presence with a tinge of tartness, however it quickly turns into cough syrup. The flavour is completely dominated by this medicinal quality. This returns after each taste but thankfully does not linger in the finish. The mouth feel is a bit slick and oily and leaves a finish again similar to cough syrup.

After reading a few reviews here it seems that I may have gotten a bottle from the "bad" batch. However I stick by my rating as this inconsistency seems common enough. I'd hesitantly be willing to give this another go.

Almost a drain pour. I was not alone in disliking this beer among 3 fellow tasters.
Gave away the rest. I'm a huge fan of Founders.

A: Dark rosy pink hazed body with a wispy head that fades and no lace. No body.

N: Nose is raspberry soda.

T: Starts with a sweet syrup and much too much raspberry. The raspberry takes over. No bitterness, too much sweet. It lacks the sour, wild, funky, anything.... Its fruit juice.

F: To sweet and too much carbonation. It's soda.

Pass or drain pour. Good for flowers?

Wild carmine pours like an eddy in a glacial river in a gully during the peak of summer. Wild torrents of bubbles spew forth. This is one of the most wild pouring brews I have ever seen. The bottle should have a warning label printed on it that says, “Pour really slowly into a really big glass,” because this brew explodes all over the place.

Smells kinda like cough syrup mixed with raspberry Kool-Aid and boatloads of NutraSweet.

Tastes pretty mediocre, very medicinal and too sweet, false, with too little fruit or substance.

Mouthfeel is thin and artificial.

Drinkability is fine but nothing special.

Pours from the stubby bottle with stylish raspberry artwork a deep dark purple with hints of red...yes I said purple. A volumious three finger light pink head of bubbly foam rises up and has great staying power. A nice fresh raspberry jam aroma greets me along with lemon and light grain tones. Sweet and inviting.

First sip brings a nice pale maltiness that is highly accentuated by a natural raspberry lemonade flavor. The raspberry is not overpowering melding well with warm yeast tones. Good interplay between sweet and bitter. A very enjoyable fruit beer that does a good job of not going too overboard with the fruit.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a rolling wall of dense carbonation. Quite effervescent. An easy drinking beer that would go down nicely poolside on a hot day. Another good one from Founders and a nice change of pace. Well worth a try.

Great summer beer that I look forward to every year. Been forever since I rated a beer so FWIW - it's a consistently decent beer that goes great with dinner on the water while watching the world go by.

The tartness isn't overpowering, the taste flows across the tongue without residue and the mouthfeel isn't one of any grainy fluid at all. Not at all like eating raspberries at all, no little seeds or anything.

The nose is perfect without being overpowering, good head, nice lacing in a clean glass. Overall good beer. Better than average.
