It's a summer beer. I always drink straight from the bottle. No idea what it looks like.

Aroma is all raspberry. Just got finished picking red raspberries and the aroma isn't artificial or medicinal.

Taste: red raspberries. Nailed it.

Nice carbonated mouthfeel, ,appropriate for a fruit beer.

Overall, nice summertime beer.

I received this bottle as part of a gift box from someone in WI.

I popped the cap and took a whiff from the bottle. Can't wait, smells great.

It pours a magenta color with a head that is thick and beautiful, like a layer of tiny, raspberry bubbles in my bath-tub. It leaves a lace veil along the sides of my glass.

The aroma reminds me of the end of summer, picking raspberries and preparing them for winter storage.

The first sip is almost like biting straight into the berry itself. Fresh from the bush, tart, not sweet, a hint of sourness. A mild hop flavor peaks through the berry predominence.

It's a bit tingly, like pink champagne. A light to medium body feel in the mouth. Very drinkable and most enjoyable. Wish I had another.

Color: pours a very light pink and sits a hazy dirty pink, almost apple cider color

Smell: quite simply, raspberries. maybe a little malt and alcohol helps thin it out but nothing else really comes through

Taste: quite simply, raspberries. i think the alcohol helps to lighten it a bit, not that this is supposed to have a whole lot of body to it anyway. tiny bit of yeast in the finish (if you poured it out)

Mouthfeel: low-med body. little bit of sparkle to it

Notes: not too thick/rich. very easy drinking. would especially be great on a warm day. i can see some people call this a girly beer. the cerise has some big shoes to fill, but i think it will do alright

Ok - from the pour you know this is a fruit beer that's not playing around. Light red raspberry color with pink hues and a small pinkish white head. Not much retention and very little lacing. Lighter in color than Lindeman's Framboise Lambic, but more color than any other fruit beers (excluding those delicious fruit stouts & porters).

Upfront raspberry aroma and a hint of alcohol. Mild malt sweetness mixes well with the fruit and does give off the disconnected graininess of typical fruit beers.

Again, raspberry dominates but not too overpowering. Wonderful sweet-tart flavors provide the right about of tangy sourness. Light bitterness towards the end, along with a dose of some alcohol spice. Finishes with lingering raspberry, sweet malt, a hint of spicy hop.

Medium bodied, smooth and crisp with low carbonation. Finishes dry and surprisingly refreshing and drinkable. Great drinkability, but as with many fruit beers it can get tired.

A special beer and one of the best in the fruit category. This beer does not play - you want raspberry, here is raspberry!

A: Pours a red to purple color in the glass with a crisp white head. Minimal head at pour disappates to just around the rim not too long later. Small spots of lacing.

S: Berry, sugary aroma.

T: Bright red raspberry is the star as expected. Slight sour note. Slight wheat taste. Very sweet - probably could only have one or two of these max in a sitting.

M: Good carbonation - nice lingering carbonation feel on the tongue some minutes later.

O: Good beer but very sweet and probably only up for one.

Thanks to mac300 for sharing this one. Poured into a pint cold.
A - A medium cranberry color w/ thin white head and good clarity. A little lace is produced that doesn't stick.

S - Big candied raspberry scent, like a raz liquer.

M - Fruity tartness with minimal acidity. Feels like drinking sugary berry juice.

T - A very juicy Raz w/ subtle grain flavor and textures that are wrapped up in the sweetness and mildly dry taste w/ nicely accented fruit. The effervescence is pleasant and complements the deeply intense juicy raspberry taste well.

D - So easy to drink like a Dole juice pop twisted into beer. Very fruit forward raspberry ale. One of the best fruit flavored beers I have had. The berry taste is natural and not overdone, very tasteful and all-around drinkable.

Served on-tap at TND - amazed it was available on-tap

Pours a cranberry
ose color, beautiful in the glass

The nose is all raspberries - more than any other beer I have had

Light carbonation, tart, sweet - the raspberry is dominant but not syrupy. The malt is around, enough to balance the flavor out.

Crisp, tart, light. Very nice.

Easy to drink, great in the heat, a real shame this is going away

This is one brew that seems to get a lot of negative talk but I really enjoy it. Nice ruby red color and excellent flavor. Best enjoyed in the summer but its in my fridge year round. Glad to see Founders has made this a year round beer now, will make my life easier. LOL

Deep grapefruit color. Bready, Belgian-type nose meshing well with the raspberries. Taste starts with raspberry, then breadiness mixes in. Slight bitterness comes at the end bringing a fine balance.

Slightly foggy and pinkish/red in color. It smells grassy and fresh with noticeable raspberry tones. The beer tastes smooth and refreshing, but it is also quite sweet and fruity with the same raspberry hints found in the smell. I liked it, but I think the sweetness is slightly overpowering at times.

On tap poured into tulip

A: 4.0 deep red maroon color with 1 finger of head
S: 4.25 strong rasberry. Very sweet
T: 4.5 rasberry up front and lingering. Love it.
M: 4.25 carbed very well. Smooth and silky.
O: 4.25 I don't typically go for fruit beers, but this one hits the mark on so many levels. Not too sweet, not bitter at all, just an extremely enjoyable brew.

This is like no other beer that I have had. Its rich almost ruby red is georgous and its fresh berry smell is suprising. It is quite sweet, yet dry, with a moderatly light mouthfeel. This is not in my opinion a beer just to tip back one after another, but very very nice.

This beer had a light ruby color to it with a nice pink head on it. Raspberries with a hint of hops is the best way I can describe the aroma of this beer.

The taste of this beer starts out sweet raspberry and the quickly turns into a tart raspberry taste. The taste of this one lingers on long afterward.

Almost champagne like feel in your mouth, really felt like and reminded me of a Lambic style beer.

Other than this beer being on the sweet side, I found it rather enjoyable.

From a deleted review from the great crash of '09

Pours a purpley brown color, moderate khaki/pink head and decent lacing. Smell is of tart raspberries with a cereal grain background. Taste follows scent with delicious tart raspberries and a nice cereal grain backbone. Medium bodied, sligltly syrupy but not overly coating and no major aftertaste. Good carbonation for an older bottle. Great fruit beer from Founders, one of the best. Would love to taste a fresh one if ever produced again.

The only downside on this beer is that I find myself drinking it too quickly, because it's so freaking delicious. Full blast of raspberry, in both smell and taste, but not too sweet. I don't think I could ever drink two in an evening, but it's a great one-beer beer for a summer night.

Very dark bland red with hints of brown. Slight white pinkish head with some lacing.

Aromas of sour raspberries, with a sweetness also. Even a little cherry aroma to it. Some hops in the smell also somewhat hidden with a yeast drop.

This is a great fruit beer. Upon entrance is a succulent sweet raspberry that melds into some slightly sour notes. On the back of the palate and throughout the long long finish is a wheaty hop flavor that leaves a great feeling in your mouth. Makes you want more. Makes it taste more like a beer.

On a warm day I could drink quite a number of these. Tasting great after just mowing the yard.

Had this again yesterday. I generally prefer Blushing Monk because of the absurdly decadent mouthfeel. However yesterday this was on nitro and it makes a huge difference. The flavor is very similar to Blushing Monk, that one is just raspberries turned to 11.

This would be like "light" - but it was a perfect beer for a hot day. Lower ABV helped, raspberry was refreshing, but the nitro took it one step further in providing a a better mouthfeel.

Today, the #USMNT beat Ghana, the Royals smoked the Tigers and the summer sun made its debut. Time to crack one of these tasties.

Initially looks like a hearty amber, but then when the light catches it just right, you pick up unique hues of red and even pink, resulting from the infusion of raspberries. Quite a pretty beer.

Sweet smelling like you would expect from a beer with this much fruit - juicy, fleshy, somewhat acidic.

Usually too sweet, fruit beers that I actually enjoy are few and far between. This one is the exception - while the sweetness is definitely there, it's not overpowering, maintaining the freshness of raspberries without turning them into syrup. Sparkling, bright, a bit sharp on the tongue,

Somewhat slick, making an easy runway for the raspberries to make their way to the pallette. The carbonation really cracks on the tongue, exploding raspberries through the mouth.

I really enjoy this beer - not only for its uniqueness, but also because it's really good.

A - ruby with a short, fizzy, pink head that has decent retention

S - tart raspberries, some faint malt, a creamy note similar to cool whip

T - mildly tart, big raspberries, a bit sugary, creamy similar to the nose, faint malt in the finish

M - medium bodied, a tad sticky, crisp but not over carbonated

This is one of the better fruit beers I have ever had. It's full flavored without being overpowering or cloying. It has depth of flavor but showcases the raspberries perfectly. For an fruit beer fan, raspberry fan, or simply someone who likes a well crafted beer, this is definitely one that is worth checking out.

This retired brew... Found one so I'm going try it.

Rubaeus (DUPLICATE) brewed by Founders Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.7% This brew pours out a brown color, with a nice off white head. The smell of Rubaeus is sweet with raspberries, grans , and malts. Now for the taste it is bittersweet with raspberries and malts. I like the taste of this brew, it is different from most ales on the market. The mouthfeel is full bodied with a nice bittersweetness. You really can't pick up on the 5.7 % in this brew. Overall I'm giving Rubaeus a soild 4.25 out 5. I would but this brew again. Founders Brewing Company did a nice job with this one.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet (couldn't read the bottling date)

A: Deep purple, amethyst color. Slight lacing.

S: Sweet and tart. Lots of raspberry. There is even a bit of funk/yeast in there.

T: Quite sweet and not very tart. This could use a slight balance of those two notes, less sweet and more tart. It tastes a bit like soda. Lots of raspberry comes through, which is rare. Most fruit beers don't have the fruit flavor as prominent. I feel that the sign of a good fruit beer is the prominence of the fruit.

M: Slick but still prickly. Good feeling here with less carb then kombucha.

O: I could drink this all day (or summer). I hope Founders comes to MD by next summer because I would love to have better access to this.

Pours a well sized, rosy head to it.

Smells heavily of sweet, tart raspberries, almost on par with a lambic. However, unlike a lambic, this has a bit more bitterness to the after taste. That being said, this is a sweet, sweet beer. In essence, it is fermented raspberries in a bottle.

It does seem to be somewhat one dimensional in that regard. However as a semi-lambic, I'm more than comfortable with that title.

If you're into a sweeter beer, this one is definitely for you. Double if you're a fan of raspberries.

Appearance: Pours brown with hints of pink/ruby highlights and a tan head.

Smell: Aroma of fresh raspberries, with hints of chocolate and caramel as well.

Taste: Incredibly quaffable! This is so easy and approachable I would be hard pressed to find someone who does *not* like it. WOW. Very tasty tart raspberry juicy flavor balanced brilliantly with chocolate malts.

Mouthfeel: Sheer SILK! The dark fruit flavors just slide right through the palate from beginning to end so easily.

Drinkability: Heavenly. I want cases of this stuff. You would never guess it was nearly 7% ABV! Simply tasty easy drinking, fruit beer.

Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

The beer pours a ruby red color with a thick frothy pink head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a wonderful raspberry scent that is geniune, not derived from extract. The taste is great. It has a very smooth, raspberry flavor that goes down easy and finishes fruity and tart. It does have a dry, earthiness in the finish as well. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a real treat. Raspberry is my favorite fruit to brew with. This beer is a fine example of a brewery not selling out with fake extracts and brewing with the real deal. It makes a difference.

I think they have obviously tweaked this one since I last had it in 2008. I remember it being an orangish color and only tasting faintly of actual raspberry. Well now it is much darker and actually dark red in color, and it actually tastes like an explosion of raspberries! The aroma is nice but slightly faint, all raspberry. The taste is like the aroma only it is stronger. Great beer and I'll be picking up a full 4 pack next time I'm at the store!
