Pours a brilliantly clear raspberry red color (imagine that) with a small white head of tight creamy bubbles that dissipates rather quickly. Raspberries are very apparent in the aroma with a sweet, slightly husky/grainy smell in the background. This medium-light bodied ale has a tart raspberry flavor balanced with a clean malt sweetness and a clean but spicy low hops bitterness. Tart raspberry flavor from beginning to end. Very effervescent, crisp carbonation. Not your typical fruit beer and not especially complex, but quite refreshing and very enjoyable especially on a nice summer day.

12 oz. brown bottle w/ twist-off cap; no freshness date

So rating this beer was difficult. I don't have anything to compare it to so I really had to look at it on its own merits. It's a very distinctive beer.

A - A lovely ruby color, cloudy, with one and a half fingers of foamy white head.
S - Raspberries in a big way. It smells a lot like raspberry jam, with maybe a hint of some pine resin (?). I found myself just smelling it, it was that good.
T - Tart raspberry, with maybe a hint of citrus (oranges?). Not as sweet as it smells, but still quite sweet. Unlike other offerings in the fruit beer category, this one doesn't taste like they added fruit syrup, but rather brewed the beer with lots of fruit. It was a surprising taste, but once I got over my initial shock I enjoyed it a lot.
M - Again, wonderfully done. High carbonation (almost fizzy), with medium body. Lingering tartness from the raspberries.
O - This isn't a beer I would normally go for (fruit beers that is), but once again Founders proves that they can make anything awesome. I really, really enjoyed this beer.

Had this on draft at Proof. Great rosy red color. Aroma of sweet berries, some dry straw, a faint bready presence and a touch of citrusy hops as well. Taste is mostly the berry, but I also got some of the hops and dry biscuit along with the berry in the finish. I will definitely drink more of this as the summer winds down.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Appearance: pours a ruby red color with a 1/2" head. No lacing develops.

Smell: raspberries and some soft vanilla tones are easily detectable and enjoyable for the nose.

Taste: loads of raspberries, bits of grass, some red grape sweetness, and some soft vanilla notes. Bitterness is very mild.

Mouthfeel: very crisp throughout. Medium bodied. Aftertaste is bold but short-lived.

Drinkability: very good for the style. This is one of the best fruit beers I have had. The fruit flavor seems fresh, not the usual syrupy or fake flavors most fruit beers have.

This beer pours a great red/pinkish color. The smell is very sweet and filled with raspberries. It has a great taste and is perfect for a summer night. My only complaint is that it is almost too overwhelming with fruit but only after the first few. Great beer give it a try.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Appearance: The beer has a reddish/pinkish amber color, with a foamy pale pink head. It's recognizable as a fruit beer, though it doesn't have the bright fruit juice color some of them have.

Aroma: Pleasantly sweet raspberry notes, tempered by a delicate touch of hops. It lacks the cloying artificial sweetness of lesser fruit beers; the aroma smells just like fresh raspberries, with just enough hops to remind you it's a beer. Very nice.

Taste: Bready malt flavor up front, nice and hearty. The sweetness of the raspberries kicks in in the middle, providing a wash of flavor before finishing in a somewhat tart fashion. Again, the hops are very, very subtle, providing just a bit of beery (is that a word?) flavor to help compensate for the sweetness of the raspberries. After swallowing, the higher-than-average alcohol content leaves a nice warm feeling in the mouth. This is an excellent beer.

Verdict: I don't know if I'd want to drink more than one or two of these in one night, as this is a fairly sweet and filling beer. It's a fantastic stab at a style that can turn out to be truly toxic in the wrong hands, though, and it sets a nice standard for other breweries interested in making fruit-flavored beer. Recommended.

$2.59/bottle at Jack's. I picked up a 6'er as I liked it on tap. "Fermented with Pure Raspberries"...thank heaven's they didn't ferment them with the regular old-fashioned, un-pure kind. Evidently about 24 IBU. 6.9% ABV. Raspberries were added at five different stages throughout the brewing process. Pours out to a semi-hazy deep crimson red, forming a soapy dark-pink head with average retention and scant lacing. The aroma is nice..the tartness of the raspberries really shines through and they smell like fresh raspberries, not some knockoff concentrate like most other fruit brews. The taste is akin to a raspberry champagne without the spritzy dry mouthfeel. It's well balanced and not terribly sweet, with a tart, crisp finish. Medium carbonation, medium-light bodied. Never cloying, but one bottle is a dessert in itself. Burps bring up a nice toasty grain note. Bitterness is mild, but combines nicely with the tartness and sweetness to create a wonderful package. Alcohol isn't tasted, and it's cleanly fermented with some apple and pear characteristics from the ale yeast.

A wonderfully done fruit beer, amongst the best I've had. Despite this it still has that "wine-cooler taste" that may shy some people away, especially when you could buy a raspberry wine-cooler for cheaper. Still, Founder's delivers on their promise of making kick-ass beer. What style haven't they conquered yet? Hrmmm...Imperial Rye Dopplebock. I would drink that!

Poured out of a 12 oz can to a beautiful, clear ruby red color. To the nose you get a face full of raspberries and not much else. Taste was again chock full of raspberries with at bit of a tart finish. very slight maleness detected. Very sweet and fruity. Extremely drinkable, clean and refreshing. You need to be in the mood for a beer like this, but on a hot day for a refreshing desert, this is a good one.

It's a summer beer. I always drink straight from the bottle. No idea what it looks like.

Aroma is all raspberry. Just got finished picking red raspberries and the aroma isn't artificial or medicinal.

Taste: red raspberries. Nailed it.

Nice carbonated mouthfeel, ,appropriate for a fruit beer.

Overall, nice summertime beer.

I received this bottle as part of a gift box from someone in WI.

I popped the cap and took a whiff from the bottle. Can't wait, smells great.

It pours a magenta color with a head that is thick and beautiful, like a layer of tiny, raspberry bubbles in my bath-tub. It leaves a lace veil along the sides of my glass.

The aroma reminds me of the end of summer, picking raspberries and preparing them for winter storage.

The first sip is almost like biting straight into the berry itself. Fresh from the bush, tart, not sweet, a hint of sourness. A mild hop flavor peaks through the berry predominence.

It's a bit tingly, like pink champagne. A light to medium body feel in the mouth. Very drinkable and most enjoyable. Wish I had another.

Color: pours a very light pink and sits a hazy dirty pink, almost apple cider color

Smell: quite simply, raspberries. maybe a little malt and alcohol helps thin it out but nothing else really comes through

Taste: quite simply, raspberries. i think the alcohol helps to lighten it a bit, not that this is supposed to have a whole lot of body to it anyway. tiny bit of yeast in the finish (if you poured it out)

Mouthfeel: low-med body. little bit of sparkle to it

Notes: not too thick/rich. very easy drinking. would especially be great on a warm day. i can see some people call this a girly beer. the cerise has some big shoes to fill, but i think it will do alright

Ok - from the pour you know this is a fruit beer that's not playing around. Light red raspberry color with pink hues and a small pinkish white head. Not much retention and very little lacing. Lighter in color than Lindeman's Framboise Lambic, but more color than any other fruit beers (excluding those delicious fruit stouts & porters).

Upfront raspberry aroma and a hint of alcohol. Mild malt sweetness mixes well with the fruit and does give off the disconnected graininess of typical fruit beers.

Again, raspberry dominates but not too overpowering. Wonderful sweet-tart flavors provide the right about of tangy sourness. Light bitterness towards the end, along with a dose of some alcohol spice. Finishes with lingering raspberry, sweet malt, a hint of spicy hop.

Medium bodied, smooth and crisp with low carbonation. Finishes dry and surprisingly refreshing and drinkable. Great drinkability, but as with many fruit beers it can get tired.

A special beer and one of the best in the fruit category. This beer does not play - you want raspberry, here is raspberry!

A: Pours a red to purple color in the glass with a crisp white head. Minimal head at pour disappates to just around the rim not too long later. Small spots of lacing.

S: Berry, sugary aroma.

T: Bright red raspberry is the star as expected. Slight sour note. Slight wheat taste. Very sweet - probably could only have one or two of these max in a sitting.

M: Good carbonation - nice lingering carbonation feel on the tongue some minutes later.

O: Good beer but very sweet and probably only up for one.

Thanks to mac300 for sharing this one. Poured into a pint cold.
A - A medium cranberry color w/ thin white head and good clarity. A little lace is produced that doesn't stick.

S - Big candied raspberry scent, like a raz liquer.

M - Fruity tartness with minimal acidity. Feels like drinking sugary berry juice.

T - A very juicy Raz w/ subtle grain flavor and textures that are wrapped up in the sweetness and mildly dry taste w/ nicely accented fruit. The effervescence is pleasant and complements the deeply intense juicy raspberry taste well.

D - So easy to drink like a Dole juice pop twisted into beer. Very fruit forward raspberry ale. One of the best fruit flavored beers I have had. The berry taste is natural and not overdone, very tasteful and all-around drinkable.

Served on-tap at TND - amazed it was available on-tap

Pours a cranberry
ose color, beautiful in the glass

The nose is all raspberries - more than any other beer I have had

Light carbonation, tart, sweet - the raspberry is dominant but not syrupy. The malt is around, enough to balance the flavor out.

Crisp, tart, light. Very nice.

Easy to drink, great in the heat, a real shame this is going away

This is one brew that seems to get a lot of negative talk but I really enjoy it. Nice ruby red color and excellent flavor. Best enjoyed in the summer but its in my fridge year round. Glad to see Founders has made this a year round beer now, will make my life easier. LOL

Deep grapefruit color. Bready, Belgian-type nose meshing well with the raspberries. Taste starts with raspberry, then breadiness mixes in. Slight bitterness comes at the end bringing a fine balance.

Slightly foggy and pinkish/red in color. It smells grassy and fresh with noticeable raspberry tones. The beer tastes smooth and refreshing, but it is also quite sweet and fruity with the same raspberry hints found in the smell. I liked it, but I think the sweetness is slightly overpowering at times.

This is like no other beer that I have had. Its rich almost ruby red is georgous and its fresh berry smell is suprising. It is quite sweet, yet dry, with a moderatly light mouthfeel. This is not in my opinion a beer just to tip back one after another, but very very nice.

This beer had a light ruby color to it with a nice pink head on it. Raspberries with a hint of hops is the best way I can describe the aroma of this beer.

The taste of this beer starts out sweet raspberry and the quickly turns into a tart raspberry taste. The taste of this one lingers on long afterward.

Almost champagne like feel in your mouth, really felt like and reminded me of a Lambic style beer.

Other than this beer being on the sweet side, I found it rather enjoyable.

From a deleted review from the great crash of '09

Pours a purpley brown color, moderate khaki/pink head and decent lacing. Smell is of tart raspberries with a cereal grain background. Taste follows scent with delicious tart raspberries and a nice cereal grain backbone. Medium bodied, sligltly syrupy but not overly coating and no major aftertaste. Good carbonation for an older bottle. Great fruit beer from Founders, one of the best. Would love to taste a fresh one if ever produced again.

The only downside on this beer is that I find myself drinking it too quickly, because it's so freaking delicious. Full blast of raspberry, in both smell and taste, but not too sweet. I don't think I could ever drink two in an evening, but it's a great one-beer beer for a summer night.

Very dark bland red with hints of brown. Slight white pinkish head with some lacing.

Aromas of sour raspberries, with a sweetness also. Even a little cherry aroma to it. Some hops in the smell also somewhat hidden with a yeast drop.

This is a great fruit beer. Upon entrance is a succulent sweet raspberry that melds into some slightly sour notes. On the back of the palate and throughout the long long finish is a wheaty hop flavor that leaves a great feeling in your mouth. Makes you want more. Makes it taste more like a beer.

On a warm day I could drink quite a number of these. Tasting great after just mowing the yard.
