look: 3.5 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Not much head, a nice purplely-red color, somewhat clear.

Smell: Very sweet, fruity, can pick up on the raspberries and a strawberry smell.

Taste: Sweet and raspberryish up front, then a little astringent, a little bitter on the way out. I'm also getting a little bit of caramel.

Mouthfeel: Tart/bubbly at the beginning, then smoother on the way out. Pretty nice mid-level of carbonation.

This is tasty, but it's so sweet and raspberry that it's overwhelming. It could be better balanced.

Pours a thin head on a clear red-hued straw body.
The aroma is raspberries.
The taste is mellow raspberry, just sweet enough and some tart. Good balance.
The texture is crisp.
Really enjoyable.

From the 12 fl., oz. bottle. Sampled on April 10, 2015.

Reddish-brown pour with modest head. The head fades.

The aroma is full of raspberry esters, which was to be expected. A little sweet malt character behind it all. But, yes, the fruit takes it over.

The body is light to medium.

The raspberry fruit is dominant in the flavor. If one was tom rate this by the taste it does deserve a very high rating because it is exactly what it promises to be. But this is a style I tend to avoid so my rating maybe lower. Sorry about the bias.

Appearance - massive pink foam on the pour. Look like a purplish cream soda! Very nice. The head recedes pretty quickly, leaving some stray dots of foam around the glass, not even enough to really call it lace.

Aroma - fresh raspberries are about all I'm picking up. It fades in intensity as the head melts down.

Taste - nice raspberry flavor. The beer component is there but relatively neutral, perhaps some very distant hop bitterness at the back of the mouth, or that could be sourness of the fruit. On the whole it starts out sweet like a wine cooler but ends up with the more serious bitter/sour piece at the end, a touch medicinal.

Mouthfeel - very upbeat and refreshing, the sweetness gives it a heavier feel, the carbonation tries to balance that out.

Drinkability - tasty but not one I'd go for generally.

In a snifter this beer was the color of grape juice. There was a very small white head.

Very sweet fruit aroma.

A pronounced raspberry taste.

Very, very sweet.

I'm not much for fruit beers; generally they're too sweet for my taste. This one was really sweet, and not that enjoyable. Like drinking a non-carbonated soda.

Poured into DFH footed pint glass; deep, well, ruby in color, translucent, with a moderate clear white head that fades leaving a small ring of intricate foam.
Smells of fresh raspberries mostly; I'm trying to keep in mind "this is founders...this is founders..." because the smell of fruit and beer reminds me of so much gas station flavored malt liquor.
Taste is fresh, sweet raspberries over top of wide-open plain malt, wet and slightly metallic.
Mouthfeel is wet and thin.
Overall, I'm not very impressed by this beer. It's like a moderately better version of a standard raspberry-flavored malt beverage. Don't misunderstand me, it's far more drinkable and enjoyable than those abominations, but it's nothing amazing. Also, I'm not a fan of fruit beers anyway; I would have much rather enjoyed a raspberry sour.

Not sure how I missed the memo on this one's release, never get blindsided by Founders brews. Reviewed from notes last week after having this a few times.

A- Dark red body with a fizzy off-white head that gets some pink from the beer beneath it. The cap dies down pretty quickly after making it to about one finger high. Very spotty lacing. Head retention not utterly surprising but still mediocre in such a fruity beer.

S- Pure raspberry jam and preserves. Really not much going on besides that, like a sweet jelly of raspberries. Some very light malts and yeast hints.

T- Fairly sweet raspberry bomb hits the palate. Some slight tartness is quite welcoming considering the sweetness and how fruit forward this is. Slightly grassy hops and very light malts.

MF- Creamy light end body with a higher-end foamy carbonated feel. Sweetness remains on the palate with some tartness, but not much. Feels a bit thin.

Kind of in the same vein as Cerise but for some reason the raspberry doesn't come through as pure as the cherries did in certain batches. At least the fruit feel is authentic.

Pours a dark pink, and settles in the glass a deep purplish color with a thin, pink tinged head. Kind of interesting, but it's also a little off putting to see such a vibrantly colored beer. Smells like a raspberry jelly donut and red wine. The taste is very sweet with a slightly dry finish. Again, lots of raspberry flavor here and a little more like wine than beer, I couldn't really pick up any identifiable beer flavors. Very little bitterness to counteract the sweetness. Feel was medium and sort of syrupy and unpleasant...mine didn't have a lot of carbonation and that combined with the sweetness made it feel like raspberry jam in my mouth. Leaves a kind of cloying aftertaste and coating on the tongue. I might drink one again in the future and see how it pairs with dessert, but overall, it didn't impress me much.

This beer pours to a rich ruby red. A pinkish foam does not last and there is virtually no lacing. It is a deep red with plenty of carbonation.

The aroma of this one is all raspberry from start to finish.

It starts with a blast of sweet raspberry, but quickly turns to a more sour taste. While not unpleasant, the taste was disjointed rather than complex.

There was plenty of carbonation and there was a refreshing feel.

This was not my favorite Founders brew, but it was not a bad offering. I didn't think that it separated itself from the pack and would have preferred it stayed sweeter throughout because the back end of the flavor didn't quite meld with the initial fruity sweetness.

Pours a nice cloudy red color and extremely carbonation and nice amount of head and but it fades after a minute or two to basically nothing. It almost looks like pop (soda if your not from Michigan :-) ). Smell is quite strong and that of raspberries, but not overpowering. Mouthfeel is not as carbonated as I expected but is pleasing and the taste is a little tart and sour. Drinkability is above average and for fruit beer is pretty good.

Pours a deep violet amber. Funky head of purplish carbonation. Lace is pleasant but not outstanding.

Nose is definitely raspberries. I admit, I like it. Maybe I'm a sucker for Founders, but this isn't bad.

Taste is rich and very very raspberry. I get a trickle of sour, but plenty of sweet to round it all up. A well-tasty and enjoyable fruit ale, though definitely not a favorite from this brewery's outstanding canon.

Pours a clear pinkish copper color with a frothy white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of raspberries and sweet malt.

Tastes of the sweet raspberries. Raspberry notes lead off with some sweetness and a bit of tartness as well. A bit more malt adds in with a touch of bread, but plays off of the sweetness. Not particularly complex, but I feel it is done pretty well.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a raspberry beer that well, tastes like rapsberries. I can't complain about it, but it is a touch sweet for me and I would like some more tartness.

12oz bottle from Barrels and Barley (Woodstock, GA). 2.29. Bottled 7/3/13. Served in a Founders snifter.

Pours bright pink purple with a quarter finger of very pale pink head. Timy smidges of lace.

Smells of yeast, sugar and raspberries.

Plenty of raspberry flavor with traces of candy sugar, syrup, slightly tart, sweet and lightly doughy malt. Almost zero alcohol detected. It's sweet and it's fruity for sure.

Almost medium but still light bodied with fairly high carbonation.

Kind of like a Blushing Monk light. Not bad at all but it lacks the depth I've come to love and expect from Founders. Still, this is so much better than Cerise was and I think I may try it again blended with their Imperial Stout.

355ml bottle. BB 04/2015. Pours a mid rosé colour. Creamy pink head, good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of raspberry syrup, artificial sweetener and some grain. Initial taste is quite sweet but not in an overpowering way and then some dry tartness. Medium almost winelike body, effervescent, sticky lingering mouthfeel. Gentle alcohol warmth. A pleasantly interesting beer.

Tasted 20 July 2013. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a nice deep pink with brownish shades behind it. Clear, with half-finger of pinkish-white head. Okay retention and lacing.

Smell is a balance of raspberry and malts.

Taste is similar, combining sweet caramel malts with raspberry. It's just sweet sweet sweet, with nothing to balance it. Also has a funny mouth-smacking buttery back-end.

Feel is light-bodied, kinda prickly.

A relatively weak raspberry beer, in my opinion. Not bad, but I just find it dull, and that buttery character doesn't blend well at all with the raspberry. Lastly, the raspberry is not as potent as it is in the best fruit beers. Comes nowhere close to the quality of New Glarus's Raspberry Tart, so I'll stick to that.

It is what it is. Not really for me, too tart sweet. For the style its good, fresh fruit flavor ect, but not what I look for in beer. Would go well with dessert.

SECOND TRIAL: Bottle from Breeze-Thru. This is a very nice fruit beer. Not something I'd want to drink on a regular basis, but definitely nice. It pours a nice rich red with very little head on it. The smell is fresh raspberries, as is the taste. There's not the same sourness that occurs in a lot of raspberry lambics (which makes sense because I'm pretty sure they don't spontaneously ferment this), but there is some nice, light tartness. The finish has a lingering fruitiness that makes this beer easy to sip away at. Despite this, I probably couldn't have more than one at a time (I don't think that finishing a six pack of these would sit well with my stomach). Overall a well done fruit beer that's perfect as an every-so-often brew.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Bottled 6/28/13.

Pours a clear red with a foamy reddish-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, raspberries, and raspberry juice aromas. Taste is much the same with lots of raspberry flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of seed-like earthy bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a solid raspberry presence but nothing too memorable for a fruit beer in my opinion.

On-tap at the tap room in Grand Rapids. This one is a dark ruby red colour with an off-white pink-tinged head of foam that held up pretty nicely. Aromas of artificial raspberries and booze as well as some earthy/musty hints way in the background. Taste is cookie malts with a nice boozy raspberry syrup sort of taste. Drinkability is good, although the mouthfeel is a little coating and overcarbonated. A decent enough, higher abv fruit beer. Scarily many of the regulars were mixing this in half and halfs with the breakfast stout, imperial stout, and even devil dancer!

A: Attractive strawberry/raspberry juice color with some chill haze to it. A few streams of bubbles meander to the top of the glass from the bottom. Head is very minimal with a simple film of off white bubbles resting on top.

S: Raspberries, vinous qualities, lemonade and cherries in the high notes.

T: Starts off a little perfumy with a good amount of raspberry flavor. There’s no real surprise what this beer was made with, but the raspberry flavor is a bit on the “fake” side…even if its not. Tastes like some seeds made it into the beer, has that earthy pungent flavor. Good amount of beet and cane sugar leaves some residual syrup in the mouth. Finishes really basic opposed to tart which surprised me.

M: Fairly thin mouthfeel with a soft texture.

D: I was under whelmed by this beer. I could have used more “snap” as it was fairly complacent and not too memorable.

12 oz bottle pours a pinkish-red color with a small white head that doesn't last long, leaves some lacing in my glass. Fruity raspberry kool-aid aromas, sweet, tart and sour raspberry flavors. Medium bodied with a spritzy, seltzer like mouthfeel, finishes sour. Unique and flavorful, gets even better as it warms.

This is not my favorite beer and I have never been a huge fan of fruity beers like this. I know a ton of people that absolutely love this beer though. For me, I think it is too sweet to really enjoy with any sort of food. I do enjoy this on occasion, but it tends to upset my stomach.
