12 oz. stubby bottle with a simple good drawing of a raspberry bush up close. You can see all the plump raspberries growing on it. On the top of the label is you'll find Founders' notched bottling code. Mine was in the top right hand corner. Whatever that means. It's capped with a twist off cap.

When poured into a Stoudt's pint glass, I didn't expect this beer to a solid raspberry red. I expected this beer to be a red color, but not a raspberry red color. On top of this raspberry colored beer was a thin and fizzy head of white foam. I noticed that sometimes even the head of foam had a small tint of red in it. This head of foam quickly fizzled away, but did manage to leave behind a handful of red foamy rings. It didn't bother to leave any lace behind, but I still liked the color of this beer.

The aroma was heavy on the juicy red raspberries. The only other aroma in this beer was a small amount of malted wheat. That is it, just red raspberries and malted wheat.

The taste was nothing but lightly sour and tart red raspberries. No malted wheat or hops, just the red raspberries. If there was anything else in this beer, then the strong raspberrries would have covered them up completely.

The mouthfeel was light with a creamy aftertaste of (you guessed it) red raspberries. Also in the mouthfeel was alot of carbonation.
The carbonation even seemed quite high for a fruit beer.

If you like drinking alcoholic red raspberry juice, then you'll really like this beer. If you want something with a little more variety, then you better go somewhere else.

freshness dating is scratched off of bottle.

A= pours a nice red color with a pink finger of head that falls fast to a thin layer on top of the glass. Little to no lacing on the side of the glass.

S= Smells like a raspberry patch or a raspberry soda. I won't even pretend I can smell too much else in this. It's raspberries.

T= The taste follows suit. Again it's raspberries and little else. It's got a very nice flavor though. It's a natural fresh raspberry taste not really overly sugary or crazy soda like. Just a nice smooth flavor.

M= Bright and bubbly.

O= This beer is all it's advertised to be a supreme raspberry ale. It reminds me a lot of New Glarus raspberry tart actually so if you don't like in Wisconsin this is exactly what your missing. A nice bright raspberry flavor in a beer. Seek this one out. As far as fruit beers go this is at the top among the best.

Almost a drain pour. I was not alone in disliking this beer among 3 fellow tasters.
Gave away the rest. I'm a huge fan of Founders.

A: Dark rosy pink hazed body with a wispy head that fades and no lace. No body.

N: Nose is raspberry soda.

T: Starts with a sweet syrup and much too much raspberry. The raspberry takes over. No bitterness, too much sweet. It lacks the sour, wild, funky, anything.... Its fruit juice.

F: To sweet and too much carbonation. It's soda.

Pass or drain pour. Good for flowers?

Pours beautifully, nice pinkish/light ruby colored head, very pleasant to the eyes. Nose is absolutely disgusting, smells like a bar of soap with a dose of raspberries. Taste is actually quite good considering how bad the nose was, sweet raspberry, hints of strawberries as well, very tasty, not tart either. Would have rated this higher but the obnoxious nose takes this one down.

This beer poured a reddish amber color and formed a huge foamy pink head that left trace lace as it subsided. A small amount of carbonation is present. An aroma of hops and heavy aroma of raspberries. The flavor is dominated by raspberries and very tart. The body is medium and light and finish is tart with a slightly astringent finish.

Impressive red colouration. Gently rising bubbles. Thin head.
Soft berry fruit aroma. Sweet.
Raspberry sherbert flavour. Hint of malt and hop bitterness. Somewhat tart.
Refreshing at first and then cloying.

Pours a reddish-purple hue, topped off with a fizzy, light-pink colored head. Looks very much like a glass of pop when first poured. Midway through, it takes over the foamy, nice-lacing look of a good brew. The nose is strong of raspberries, as you would imagine, and there is a faint sweet malt scent hidden in the background.

Wow, the taste is powerful. Heavy raspberries, blackberries, and other tart fruits completely take over the taste of this beer. ( It is still a little warm, I couldnt wait for it to get cold, which might have a lot to do with the overwhelming raspberry aftertaste.) Yet it is quite tasty considering the style, I will try this one again, ice cold, to see if it brings out any other flavors.

The mouthfeel ranks a little higher than medium-bodied, which I didnt expect. Very outstanding balanced on the way down. This one is good, but drinking more than one would be too sweet and too much berry overload. Not really my style, but still definitly worth a try. Cheers!

Founders Rubaeus
12 oz brown bottle
Served in a 20 oz tulip pint glass

* Labor Day weekend 2006 *

Pours a hazy light red, almost dark pink color with a fluffy off-white head on top. Spotted trails of sticky lace decorate the glassware.

Intense aroma of freshly picked rasberries and zesty citrus.

Syrupy sweet rasberry bombs attack the palate with a backbone of caramel malt. Flavors of rasberry tart pie, freshly ground rasberry puree and rasberry pez candy meld together to create one hell of an interesting fruit beer. A very nice balance of tart, sweet and malty mold together.

In many ways, this reminded me of the Lindemans Framboise. I think the similarities between these two beers are plentiful, making me even further question if the Lindemans Framboise is a true Lambic or a Fruit Beer. Nevertheless, this brew is original, extremely fruity and easy to drink.

A 12oz bottle dated 5.23.14

A - Ruby red, 1 finger of head and nice sticky lace left on the glass

S - Raspberries and lots of them! No booze, just raspberries...thats all!

T - Wow...its a spiked raspberry juice! So good! Apples and raspberries, alcohol is well hidden. An awesome brew.

M - Medium carbonation and light bodied.

O - A great beer. Just wish it was not so expensive, or this one would be a regular.

Pours a brilliant hazy ruby; smells of raspberry (duh) jelly donuts. The initial taste is an explosion of natural raspberries - very little to no cloying syrupy sweetness here. Finishes with some light breadiness, really drinks like a raspberry danish or some other fruity confectionary. Taste lingers well after drinking but does not overstay its welcome.

This is a fruit beer done correctly. Great summer beer.

A - no head to speak of, light barely visible carbonation through the ruddy reddish-brown eliixir

S - raspberry predominates the aroma, it really takes over, there is a discernible malty backbone however

T - as imaginable, raspberry flavors dominate the taongue as well as the nose, very fruity, were not talking frozen mushy raspberries, real, fresh raspberry flavors. once again there is a hop/malt balance in the background providing support. This beer avoids the pitfalls that other fruit beers fall prey too, in that it's not too sweet

M - smooth and easy down, this was stolen by the girlfriend. she very much enjoyed, no offensive qualities to speak of

D - incredible, it really acheives a superb drinkability, would compliment dessert quite well, especially pie ala mode, mmm...

This beer poured a reddish brown body with a small off-white head.

Nose has a sweet tart, raspberry or even natural cranberry type smell. The carbonation almost gives it that fruity soda sort of smell.

Medium bodied with a syrupy sweet fruit flavor. A big carbonation gives it a very soda like quality at first. Fresh Raspberries, natural tart fruits and some muted sugar. An interesting overlaying earthy bitterness that adds to the natural fruit flavor.

It is what it is. Sort of the session beer version of Dogfish head's fort. Not quite a lambic, but could be nice paired with chocolate.

A-sienna brown. Dark. Has a reddish tent. Just a thin white head

S-smells like tart raspberries! Almost stings the nose. Slight buttercream scent.

T-comes in with a thick flavor or tart raspberry cream. Some cinnamon in there, but not quite enough to make it taste like a candle, thankfully. Definitely has a grainy flavor to remind you this is a beer. It's a thick syrupy taste. There's a slight him of bitterness in the after-taste, but it's mainly the same.

M-thick and syrupy. Medium carbonation. Sticky finish

O-I don't really care for this. I love fruit beers, but this is just so thick and syrupy. It's made for nightmare hangovers. It's not even. Dry drinkable. It just reminds me of a stronger macro fruit beer.

Poured from a 12 oz stubby to a pint glass, the liquid is light ruby with ok carbonation. The head is small and pink, fades fast leaving little lace.

The smell is good, I love sweet raspberries and that is what this is.

The taste follow well, lots of sweet raspberries, lots of desert qualities, for the real plus would be as a summer beach brew. This would be the best IMO. I like this brew it tastes great and is refreshing.

The mouthfeel is nice, light body and sparkling like carbonation. Nice.

The drinkability is very good as it is just about gone.

Pours out a hazy ruddy red. Head is slightly off-white to pink. Nose is raspberry candy. Flavor is raspberry, raspberry, raspberry. That's about it. Pretty sweet overall. The fruit contributes some tartness, but it isn't enough to balance the sweet. Mouthfeel is a bit sticky. I love raspberries, but this is a bit much to finish a 12 oz. I would like this in a 4 oz. serving as a digestif much better.

Appearance: a nice garnet color. small pinkish foam that fades quickly and leaves nothing behind

Smell: sweet raspberries. some hints of a malt backbone but not much

Taste: sweet raspberries, some tartness. matly backbone is present but i can't pick it out too well

Mouthfeel: sticky and more tart than is present in the taste. fairly light

Overall: a lot like cherise, i don't see too much difference. way to one dimensional to be great to me. i like my fruit beers with more of something else. such as a unique malt that is stronger or some sourness to it.

Appearance: Red. 1 Finger of large pink rocky head. No lacing to speak of.

Smell: Raspberries! Slight breadiness. Yum!

Taste: Raspberries! Tart, with slight alcohol flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation with medium body.

Overall: I never thought I could like a strictly raspberry beer as much as this one. Nothing about it tastes artificial. Very tasty!

A sloppy pour yields two incehes of pale pink foam resting atop a lightly hazed diluted purple brew. The head falls quickly, leaving light lace.

Nose is soft, sweet and tart berries with a light toffee and husky grain note.

Flavor opens with semisweet fresh raspberry and orchard fruit. Not as sweet as expected, which is a nice thing in this case. It has a decent honey and caramel malt character complimented by earthy and herbal hops in the finish. Unique.

Mouthfeel is lush and creamy with a slick texture and good drinkability for a fruity beer. Complex enough to keep you interested and refreshing. Didn't even realize this was almost 7% until I looked here on BA!

Enjoyed on tap at a Founders tap takeover at Bier Station in Kansas City. Poured into a small, bulbous tulip glass.

Appearance - Dark pink to magenta colored clear body with a healthy fluffy faded rose quartz head that dissipates after awhile, leaving moderate lacing. Reminds me a bit of a kriek with more head.

Smell - Raspberry all the way, with some sweetness and light acid playing together revealing a promising complexity. The fresh raspberries really shine through--smells like muddled raspberries.

Taste - Delivers on the promise of the smell by being all raspberry, but just the right balance between sweet and dry. Finishes with a tiny bit of tartness to give it some depth.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and light carbonation with a mostly dry finish with just a kiss of sweetness to entice the next sip. Highly drinkable.

Overall a delicious beer for the right occasion. I could also see it as a bit of a stepping stone in multiple ways. Either as a foray for a non-beer drinker into the world of suds or for someone who doesn't really like fruit beers. This one has something for everyone, and is so drinkable that it would be easy to get carried away.

A: Attractive strawberry/raspberry juice color with some chill haze to it. A few streams of bubbles meander to the top of the glass from the bottom. Head is very minimal with a simple film of off white bubbles resting on top.

S: Raspberries, vinous qualities, lemonade and cherries in the high notes.

T: Starts off a little perfumy with a good amount of raspberry flavor. There’s no real surprise what this beer was made with, but the raspberry flavor is a bit on the “fake” side…even if its not. Tastes like some seeds made it into the beer, has that earthy pungent flavor. Good amount of beet and cane sugar leaves some residual syrup in the mouth. Finishes really basic opposed to tart which surprised me.

M: Fairly thin mouthfeel with a soft texture.

D: I was under whelmed by this beer. I could have used more “snap” as it was fairly complacent and not too memorable.

A beautiful deep rusty red, with a huge foamy head. Nose is super-sweet rasberry. Taste is very tart at first, giving way to a heavily carbonated sweet rasberry flavor, complete with seeds. A very interesting beer (although not very beer-like). Perhaps too sugary-sweet to drink too many in one sitting. It's reminiscent of a sparkling rasberry juice. Alcohol is very well hidden, it's deceptive.

Pours very pink, cloudy, with a thin soapy head.

Smell is Rasberry. No malt or hop detectable.

Taste is artificial sour rasberry flavoring. Once again, there isn't a trace of malt or hop to be found. Hint of alcohol in the finish.

Mouthfeel is very light.

Founders is a great brewery but this isn't even what I would call beer. Your wine cooler drinking girlfriend might like this.

On draft at the Dilly Deli.
Pours a light, soft, red in color with no head forming. Plenty of carbonation bubbles racing up the glass. Smell is indeed raspberries. Taste is much the same, of course. Not dominating, overpowering, raspberries, but an almost perfect dose. Another warm weather beer, that's perfect for sitting outside and enjoying. This one went down way too fast to even notice the near 7% ABV.

Pours a little head that fades fast, but some retention remains. Nice amber color.

Smell: Nice raspberry smell with some faint malts underneath.

Holy shit what nice flavor from the fruits, no off tannins just pure nice fruit flavor. The maltiness isn't anything I can pick apart but it's sweetness balances nicely with the raspberries.

Creaminess on the palate with light carbonation. PERFECT!

I could drink this beer all fucking day, oh man.
