Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
We took a crisp, light-bodied cherry ale and hid it away in oak barrels that have held both bourbon and maple syrup. After a lengthy stint, it emerged a changed beer, blanketed in notes of warm vanilla and earthy sweetness. The wood proves itself the star of this beer, adding depth and taming the tart cherry while the maple imposes a velvety texture that lingers for not a moment too long.

Picked up a single at Happy Valley BevMo 3-18-17 for $3.29. Bottled on 12-20-17.

Beer poured crimson with a nice white head that left a little lacing behind with each sip.

Nose was cherry forward with a light waft of maple, oak, vanilla, and bourbon.

First sip was very cherry forward with a mild presence of vanilla, oak, and bourbon. All topped off my a decent touch of maple syrup. No hopping was evident and the beer was cough syrup sweet.

Mouthfeel was medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall it is pretty rare i pan a beer but this was not a good beer from my palette's perspective. Buyer beware if you still see it on the shelves.

A - Pours a hazy strawberry color with very thin, white, dense lacing.

S - Cherry, bourbon, maple, oak, and booze.

T - Tart cherries with some mild zesty/zing, light maple syrup in the background, some mild oak and delicate bourbon on the back end.

M - Big medium body, gentle carbonation, partially wet on the finish because of the tart cherries but bone dry on the back of the tongue.

O - A unique but enjoyable beer.

From Boxbeers. In Teku glass. Watching House of Cards 1x11 + playing Grim Legends 3. Odd mix that suprisingly works well, with all elements (cherries, bourbon, wood, maple) perfectly assembled to provide an original experience

750 ml bottle- Pours lightly hazy with a medium off white head. Aroma is maple syrup, fermented cherries, vanilla, toffee. The taste is maple, cherry, vanilla, toffee, caramel in there somewhere. Odd mixture, different, not for everyone, i like it, but i can see it getting to be too much having a 750 bottle to drink. Otherwise share with friends on this one.

12 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 12/16/16, had 2/6/17.

Pours a mostly clear dark pink, with a one inch head and some soapy lacing. Smells of cherries, maraschino cherries, yeast, oak, some brown sugar, light vanilla and maple. The taste really ramps up the maple, then cherries, cherry juice, light malt, light oak and yeast, some vanilla, a slight bitterness. A big sweet burst up front. Smooth, pretty light bodied for a BBA, a good level of carbonation.

Gee, maybe it wasn't my night with this one. A pretty simple feeling effort here. Lots of maple, no bourbon, kind of tastes like Cerise with maple. It's not bad, but it's not special. Same series as KBS? Hmmm.... Three bottles left, maybe some age will help.

Grabbed this at Total Wine. 2017 release, 8.0% ABV.

Look: Pours a translucent crimson red with tinges of brown. No head of foam, no lace.
Smell: Getting strong cherry with hints of oak. No booziness or bourbon evident. Pleasant, but overwhelmingly fruity.
Taste: Again getting sharp, bitter cherry which is initially nice, but finishes a bit too sweet with no real maple follow through. You do however get some charred oak as the beer settles on the tongue. A subtle warmth as it goes down.
Feel: seltzery carbonation, pretty nice body weight but a little unexpected. Slight stickiness.

Overall, I wasn't sure what to expect from this beer. It was good, but it was the maple bourbon barrel-aged element that sold me and I'm just not getting enough. The body is great and it's got pretty good color, but I think it's slightly lacking as a lineup member of Founder's Barrel-Aged Series.. at least for this particular release.

A - Pale red body, clear, with a wispy light head and definite sticky lacing.

S - Mostly bourbon vanilla and wood, alcohol, with just a hint of maple at the end as it warms. I'd like the fruit to be more forward in the nose...

T - ...and that is what comes through in the open, with fresh cherry notes, a strong juice aspect, with the vanilla highlighting the sweetness, and just enough acidity and warmth in the close.

M - Brisk, bright and a bit sticky, but light enough to come clean in the finish.

O - The bourbon is present and clear. Maple, not as much, but the sweetness may suggest it, a light tilt that never gets cloying. Overall, an interesting melange that offers very nice flavors.

Poured into a mini snifter and a mini English pint glass. The appearance was a crisp copper color with a longer lasting white foamy head in the English pint glass. Same amount of lacing in both glasses. The aroma seems to be the same in both. Cherry forward with glossy maple sweetness. Bourbon is extremely subtle. The flavor yields to a blended sweetness with a crisp tart bite of the cherry playing with the maple syrup. Dry edgy wood. And then all wraps into the aftertaste sliding into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Mild carbonation. Dry woodiness tickles my tongue just as I thought it would. Overall, different definitely, I can see how a ton of people are going to say this tastes like cough syrup but hey, I didn’t brew it. Blame Founders. But to me, I see a decent fruit styled beer. I might try to grab another bottle to age.

Bottled
Drank: 05.12.17
L: A white/strawberry head with low retention. The body has a cinnamon apple color with light carbonation and zero clarity.
S: Subtle, woody, malty, light bourbon, cherry with a biting sweetness.
T: Bourbon (But without the alcoholic burn! I was incredibly surprised!), cherry, slight wood/earthy tones with a maple finish.
F: AMAZINGLY smooth, bready/malty, medium fullness, rich, sweet, medium fullness, and esters with a warm finish.
A beautifully aged beer. Subtle, but delightfully smooth and enjoyable. I will most definitely be drinking this beer again!

pours a hazy, rosy, light ruby color with a small head that poofs. nose; cherry phenol & raspberry - immediate reminder of founders rubaeus. taste; sweet malt, lightly tart cherry syrup, mixed berry, light vanilla, maple syrup, graham cracker, light oak, & light hops. aftertaste is (oddly) tart cherry & cocoa. medium carbonation & mouthfeel. the barrel aging seems to balance out the overly tart/fruity character that made me dislike rubaeus.

This beer was overly cherry, sweet, and had a slightly carbonated mouth feel. It was smooth and easy to drink, but resembled cherry soda. Not bad, but different than I expected.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Smell is of sweet cherry and maple. Heavy on cherry taste with a hint of maple/bourbon and vanilla. The alcohol in this ale is well hidden. Interesting cherry ale that I would definitely not hesitate to buy again if in the mood for something sweet.
