Style: Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.60%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
Each year we brew a beer to benefit ArtPrize, the world’s largest art competition held annually in our hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. This year’s beer is Green Zebra. Subtly sour and a little sweet, this ale is a refreshing take on a nearly extinct German style, gose. Watermelon is the highlight of this lightly-hopped treat and gives it a hint of satisfying juiciness. The soft mouthfeel and dry finish comes courtesy of the addition of sea salt, a traditional gose ingredient.

Brief Review:

O: My favorite time of year! ArtPrize! Founder's has honestly done a better job with the ArtPrize series than the Backstage/Barrel Aged Series. Between Inspired Artist, Mosaic Promise, and this, all huge hits. Had this on tap back when it was Watermelon Gose, but this tastes just as good, not many tweaks. Super crushable beer, great for late summer/early fall. This is the style, as well as Founder's, done right. Up there with one of the beers of the year for me.

Recommendation: An absolute stunner that should please all palates. Grab as much as you can while it's still warm outside.

Personally i love this beer more than i should. Had it on tap from the founders guys at a brew festival. Bought two sixers as soon as i found them and I drank about three a sitting with them and i never session beers like this. So tasty, perfectly sour and slightly salty with a sweet puckering nose. Goddamn most of these boys never left the can.

Pours a hazy gold with a finger and ahalf of a tightly packed head of white that is so crackling and quickly dissipating.

Smell is salty with some watermelon and some breadiness. Very nice on that smell.

Tast is crazy snap of tart sweet watermelon. More sweet than tart up front followed by the tart at the back. Lots and lots of watermelon on the taste.

Mouth is light and nothing on the back end.

If you want a watermelon juice type of beer with a bit of alcohol that you can crush this beer will work!! This stuff is so delicous that Founders should brew this every day of the year. If you are a fan of the style please get some before it is gone. Damn it is good!

Cloudy appearance with a two-fingered head. Aroma is strawberries, cotton candy, bubble gum, and a orange creamcicle. Taste like strawberries and bubble gum. Mouthfeel is creamy. It taste sweet from start to finish. This is the best Gose I have ever had.

Per my girlfriend, this beer tastes "juicy" in a good way. Nice golden color. Can actually smell the watermelon. This gose is very sweet with a nice watermelon flavor. The sea salt balances out this beer very well. I would rate this as a "drinkable" beer meaning I could drink many.

12 oz. canned on 07.14.17

Pours foggy hazy yellow gold with a receding frothy white foam head. Smells like tart watermelon, sea salt, some wheat, with floral earthy herbal grass. Tastes like juicy sour watermelon, sea salt, pale bready crackery wheat, with floral earthy herbal grass. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy with moderate tingling carbonation. Overall a real nice watermelon gose.

Really enjoyed this as an easy-drinking summer beer. The watermelon is borderline jolly rancher, but straddles that line enough to not be cloying or artifical. Backbone is classic no-frills Gose, and the watermelon really landed for me as a tasty & refreshing compliment to the style.

Taproom only. Great gose - plenty salty/savory, but for those who like to salt their watermelon this is about perfect. The watermelon comes across as natural, not artificial. Hope they put this into production.
