For those of you familiar with the Solid Gold we’ve featured in our taproom for years, this is not the same beer. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy, completely revamped the recipe and it now features lager yeast, corn and lemondrop hops for just the right hit of flavor. Our take on a classic, Solid Gold is a drinkable golden lager brewed with the highest quality ingredients. Challenging what a lager can be? That’s something we won’t regret.

This is my first review…I love beer; AALs are my favorite variety. Why try to be pretentious? I like what I like. This is one of my favorite beers, and I’m so glad I found it.
Look - light golden color, plenty of carbonation, not much head or lacing when poured in a glass. That doesn’t matter to me though.
Smell - smells like a typical AAL, with slight hops and less corn/rice/adjuncts.
Taste - this is the important part. I’m not fond of super hoppy beers; this one has a slight hoppy taste, but it works out for the best. The hops are almost more citrusy (though not overly so) than piney. I can’t stand a beer with strong, bitter hops; this beer has just the right amount of bitter hops. Other than that, very dry and crisp, not too much going on. Reminiscent of other AALs, but cleaner tasting, if that makes sense. The ingredients and brewing process are much better than with many others of the AAL style, in my opinion. The reason I don’t give this a 5 is that it could use more malt, more flavor. The hops profile on this one is perfect though, and the flavor is good, albeit weak.
Feel - great mouthfeel; thick, but not overly so, creamy-feeling and nicely carbonated. Perfect.
Overall - Yuengling Traditional is my favorite brew; Solid Gold is less flavorful, though I sometimes prefer it. This is probably a sin amongst beer snobs, but I’m searching for a craft beer that is comparable to Yuengling. Seems silly, because after tax, my beer-of-choice is just over $1/beer. Cheap. Solid Gold in the OKC area is around $20 per 15 pack. Only a few stores have it here.
Many beerheads are too snobby for AALs, but I prefer them. I drank way too much in my teens and early-twenties, and my fondness for AALs likely stems nostalgia brought forth by memories of good times with less responsibility.
Solid Good is a solid beer worth trying, especially for the price.

Founders Solid Gold has a golden body with a 2-finger off-white head that dissipated slowly and left behind minimal lacing. The nose is balanced and grassy. Taste is crisp, clean, and refreshing. Lemon citrus is also noted in the flavor. The lager is medium bodied, smooth, and nicely carbonated.
A very drinkable lager.

In a flight at Tupelo Honey in Franklin. It's a clearish gold. And the taste is clearish, too. Smooth, but a little lacking in hops. More flavorful as it warms.

Pours a clear bright yellow, nice white head, no lacing. Nose says grains and grass. Not much flavor to offend or enjoy. Light, crisp and refreshing. A pleasant surprise.

APPEARANCE: Clean amber/golden with a nice white head of suds and webby lace.
NOSE: Good balance of hops and malts. Harmonic, if nothing else.
TASTE: Crisp and refreshing, but not bland or watery, so don’t confuse this with most macro lagers. Sweet malts and bettering hops. Everything an American lager SHOULD be. Spot on.

A very quality American Adjunct Lager. A great beer for a social setting, as the 4.4 abv leads you to enjoy many for any sort of buzz. The taste is great, with evidence this beer contains corn and lemondrop hops in the subtle taste it has. Really not much there on the pallet. Simply just refreshing. The smell is sweet but has the typical lager nose with a little malt characteristic. The taste subsides quickly. Overall a very quality substitution for most basic lagers.
