Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
For those of you familiar with the Solid Gold we’ve featured in our taproom for years, this is not the same beer. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy, completely revamped the recipe and it now features lager yeast, corn and lemondrop hops for just the right hit of flavor. Our take on a classic, Solid Gold is a drinkable golden lager brewed with the highest quality ingredients. Challenging what a lager can be? That’s something we won’t regret.

Founders truly has struck gold with this one! A crisp adjunct American lager. The moderately low alcohol level means that its perfect for outdoors summertime drinking, since it will quench your thirst without dehydrating you. At 20 IBUs, the bitterness is low, but tangible, especially against the solid malt backdrop. Light body, unfilling. Beautiful golden color. A nice firm head that stays around for a minute or so when poured into a glass, though this is a beer that can be perfectly enjoyed straight from the can. There is a hint of grassiness, and some sweetness. This beer is made with mostly barley and some corn, but it doesn't taste adjunct at all. As an American adjunct lager, this is as good as it gets. I've found a new go-to lager.

12 oz. canned on 02 05 18

Pours clear gold with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like mild citrusy hops, some grapefruit, candied lemon, orange citrus, sweet malty grains, corn, with some earthy herbal floral grassy pine. Tastes like candied lemony citrus, sweet corn, malty grains, orange citrus, grapefruit pith, with earthy herbal floral grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy and slick with low carbonation. Overall a really great flavorful AAL.

This is a beer that I really like. It reminds me a bit of a european continental lager. Malty and hoppy yet still lighter than an IPA. Really good for a domestic.

Great for the style. Light hops and smooth malts make it a good summer beer. Goes down easy!

How it should look. Nice white head to a perfectly clear and crisp looking golden beer.
Smells of some corn and other malts.
Tastes of corn and yeast.
Feeling is crisp.
Overall, very crisp and balanced. I like it better than Pc pils. This is a good lager.

I had this beer 2 days fresh and felt was untrue to style and ended up tasting like a session IPA; very much resembling All Day with its hop forward crispness but then it leaves you with a very lemony, lemongrass flavor. Having it 2 days old is pretty exciting and do find it refreshing. Be perfect in the summer and as a tailgate beer but what I wanted was a lager.

However letting it age for 3 more days I get the lager I wanted. The hops had faded and got more grassy, floral, corn, malty grain flavors resembling German lagers. No lemongrass presence and can still taste hops but very tamed. I feel fortunate to have drank this 2 days fresh and glad to see it develop to the beer I had expected.

12oz canned 1/26/18 poured into a pilsner glass at fridge temp 4.4% ABV 20 IBU. The beer pours bright golden straw yellow with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves a little splotchy lacing. The aroma is faint but yeasty with a hint of floral/lemon. The taste is soft pilsner malt first with a minor lemony bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin bodied, adequately carbonated and dry in the finish. Overall, excellent. I am a fan of all AAL, but can't abide the buttery mouthfeel in most examples. This beer has a hint of it but it's well integrated into the lemon finish.

A: A very standard AAL appearance. Clear golden, fresh, and bubbly.

S: Moderate lemongrass and malt. Some hops in the background. Definitely smells better than the mass production AAL.

T: Biscuity malts and a slight lemony characters. Noticeable presence of hops for the style.

M: Awesome. Full bodied for this style, not thin, excellent carbonated.
