Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
For those of you familiar with the Solid Gold we’ve featured in our taproom for years, this is not the same beer. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy, completely revamped the recipe and it now features lager yeast, corn and lemondrop hops for just the right hit of flavor. Our take on a classic, Solid Gold is a drinkable golden lager brewed with the highest quality ingredients. Challenging what a lager can be? That’s something we won’t regret.

Poured into a Lagunitas large mouth glass.

Look: Deep golden body under a white head that leaves a thick film, decent random splotches of lacing.

Aroma: Cereal grains, light citrus happiness.

Taste: Sweet malts and/or corn adjunct, wheat grains, light hops giving the finish a zesty lemon touch.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, maybe even on the thicker side, dry.

Overall: Not really my cup of tea. Too hoppy, too heavy for a 4.4% lager.

i was really looking forward to trying this one after seeing how hard they seem to be pushing it out there, but what a disappointment it ended up being! for one, its oddly malty for what it is, a couple of shades darker than its peers, more body, more sweetness and breadiness in the middle, and while normally more grain character in an adjunct lager would be an appealing thing, in this case it weighs down the beer and takes away much of its drinkability, at least for me, i was almost shocked at its darker color when i first laid eyes on my pint. the smell is sort of cheap and dirty, the lager yeast smells and tastes strained to me, less patient than i like in a pale lager, and the hops sort of clash, its trying to be too many things at once i think, and it ends up muddled and confused rather than subtly interesting. not good to me, better than some of the cheaper adjunct lagers, but i wanted a lot more from this. seems like founders has really dumbed some stuff down lately. i know this is selling like crazy, but its a miss in my opinion! so many better offerings out there to scratch this itch.

For what it is, it’s pretty good. Enjoyed it on tap in Neptune Beach at North Beach Fish Camp. Went well with seafood. I’d actually buy this bc when it’s cold it’s better than any macro garbage.

Fizzy yellow beer with a quickly dying head. The corn smell of bad beer is evident. Tastes awful as one might expect from bargain brand light lager. Corn, stewed hops, faint cracked malt flavors. The hop flavor is short lived but had a little integrity. Carbonation levels are fine, light aftertaste of cheap beer. Could have actually been good but as it is, even for the style, this stuff is crap and way overpriced.

Picked up a 15-pack of this for $14.99 at the local supermarket.

A solid beer that doesn't demand much from the drinker. On the 90F day on which I drank a cold one, I could have imagined myself drinking 3-4 more. Really refreshing. Might resemble what PBR or Schlitz was back in the day, but who knows.

Although it could definitely use an injection of a bit more flavor (little more bitterness, hops, etc.), it's certainly fine on its own, if you don't expect too much from it.

For ~$1 a can, hard to find many faults. If it was any pricier, I'd definitely be a bit more picky.

This is pretty disappointing. Of smaller breweries making American Premium lagers this doesn't compete with any of that are produced locally in Mn. seems to lack the nice clean but have to be maltiness that's so many others have. They often have a grainy quality and this one is softer and milder. Actually more closely resembles mass-produced loggers then those made more recently.
It looks nice but has a very soft aroma. hopping is very little on this and is more for blending and not offering any distinctness.
Pretty clean.

L - Golden, with clarity and 1 full finger of head. Lots of lacing left on top of the brew and on the glass.

S - Lager yeast, lightly hopped

T - Lightly malty and biscuit. Very mild and tasty.

F - Light body and medium carbonation

O - Damn good light Lager. Better than from the macro-producers.

Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass. Canned Feb 12th 2018.

Dark brass orange body color, quite surprising, with fairly good clarity and fine carbonation. Very soapy and fine shampoo bleach white head, mixing three fingers and lots of bubble popping as it settles.

Clean aroma with a minor twist. Not much touch of adjunct or other malt sweetness, maybe a hair of almost lime like hop aroma kicking in there somewhere too.

Palate sort of keeps it pretty basic. Soft bodied, but supportive mouthfeel. Slight touches of caramel, particularly on the finish when drinking. Quenches a little lime and even a bit of zest citrus. Minor touches of herb like hop but also very fleeting.

A very drinkable and respectable beer, but comes out more like a watered down version of a Vienna lager. Kind of odd, but decent.

A thoroughly decent lager. Not what I expected from Founder's. Apparently, all American hopped. Poured into a 16 oz. traditional beer mug. Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow. Smell: Citrus hops, corn, and yeast prevalent at the nose. Taste: Same as smell. Weight/feel: fairly light. Overall: Thoroughly decent. Not what I expected from Founder's. Would not go out of my way to buy. My first disappointment from Founder's. :|
