Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
For those of you familiar with the Solid Gold we’ve featured in our taproom for years, this is not the same beer. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy, completely revamped the recipe and it now features lager yeast, corn and lemondrop hops for just the right hit of flavor. Our take on a classic, Solid Gold is a drinkable golden lager brewed with the highest quality ingredients. Challenging what a lager can be? That’s something we won’t regret.

Look: Pours a deeper gold color than most in the category with an off-white foamy head. Clear without any haziness.

Smell: The nose is perfumed with a more hopped aroma than most lagers. Lemon, fresh-cut grass, and other herbal qualities come through. Nothing terribly aggressive but present enough to be easily noted.

Taste: A sweet taste of malt and cereal grain is equally met with an herbal hop quality. Finishes slightly dry yet sweet and refreshing.

Overall: a great beer that occupies it's space perfectly. Has enough flavor and dryness to attract the most ardent of craft beer drinkers yet approachable enough for the Coors and Budweiser drinkers. Absolutely try this out. Price as on point as well.

An American adjunct lager with depth of flavor and a slightly assertive hop character. What's not to like? Poured from 12-ounce can into a vintage Encore logo glass. The clear, golden color with a tinge of copper gives the appearance of Scotch whisky in the glass. Aggressive pour yielded several fingers of white head that settled after only a couple of moments, leaving no trace. Grassy and herbal hops on the nose, with some biscuit malts, light caramel, grain, corn, and a touch of citrus. Quite a bit of sweetness on the palate, although not overpowering. Notes of Meyer lemon and lemon zest, with the 20 IBU's lingering on the tongue and soft palate. Good carbonation. Although low in ABV, this has a ton of character. An aptly-named and a very good beer.

A clear gold with a solid white head with solid retention and lacing, this looks good. The nose is clean, grainy, a touch sharp and with a lightly toasted wheat note. The palate opens clean and mildly sweet, with honey, wet grain, corn and a mild earthy hop character. Drying on the finish, this beer is light and crisply carbonated. Solid lager, but this style is just so damn boring.

Can nabbed at a beer store in Austin, TX.

20 IBUs. "Premium lager." 4.4% ABV. Canned 02.26.18.

Competent, with its corn adjunct well-disguised.

High C+ (3.25) / ABOVE AVERAGE

Canned 1/26/18, consumed 3/17/18

Poured absolutely crystal clear golden honey colored with an inch of head that very quickly dissapated and left almost no lacing.

Aroma is bready, sweet grains, grassy notes, and some faint lemon citrus hops. Very nice, clean, and inviting.

Taste is a bit less than the aroma, standard bready and grainy, less sweet, again faint citrus fruit at the end.

Mouthfeel is soft and light, good high carbonation, low bitterness, clean dry finish.

Overall, this is a craftier, more-flavorful alternative to the general AALs out there. For the price, I'd probably prefer some other craft pilsners going forward, but this is a nice step up from everyday basic lagers.

Appearance: pale yellow color; fizzy white head that dissipates quickly

Aroma: citrus notes (which I did not expect at all); some grains; yeast; grassy hops

Taste: starts with the citrus brightness which carries through the whole taste; moves into the grain bill; corn sweetness; light grassy hop notes on the back

Mouthfeel: smooth; light

Overall Impression: this is probably as good as an adjunct lager gets; I would drink this again, but only as a step up from BMC; but for friends who only drink swill, bringing this to a BBQ would be a great idea

Great pour, white foamy head on a pretty yellowish beer. Smell is pretty typical on an AAL but not as sweet. I liked that. Taste follows - adjunct lager minus almost all of the sweetness. I think the extra 5-10 ibus are what separate this beer as better than the AAL’s. That being said I am not sure it is separate enough from Hamms to warrant 2x the price. I did enjoy it and will get it again.

From the 12 oz. can with a 02.19.18 canning date. Sampled on March 17, 2018.

The appearance is golden with a quick burst of white head that fades to a ring. Excellent clarity.

The aroma is fairly typical for the style with biscuit, corn, and grassy hops. Nothing complicated. Just the basics.

The body is generally smooth and light-medium in texture.

The taste has a classic breaded sweetness with a moderate grassy bitterness that ends dryly. Easy drinking.

Description: Bright, clear and as its name implies, golden in color. Head is bubbly, thin and dissipates rather quickly. Smell is more malty and yeasty than hoppy, but there is still a subtle, underlying hoppiness. The taste follows the smell and it's predictably malty until the finish, where the bitterness of the hops appears albeit briefly. In general, the flavor is pretty pedestrian and lacks any really noticeable or desirable traits. It's highly carbonated and has a thin mouth feel, which is appropriate for the style.

Overall: 3.5 (This beer is average and I would not likely drink it again) Meh. I'm always skeptical when a brewer tries to fancy up a boring lager, and generally with good reason. If you're used to drinking the Budweisers and Coors Lights of the world, this beer is definitely a step up. If you're used to drinking hoppy IPAs, saisons, etc., this beer is not exciting. On the plus side, at $15 for a 15-pack it's a great price, so if you're going to a cookout or entertaining friends that aren't into craft beer (and I'm not sure why you would have friends like that) this might be a good option.

Look: It is golden in color with a slightly off white head. Head retention is moderate.

Smell: The aroma is a bit citrus and a bit of floral. It has a light grainy sweet aroma and is clean overall.

Taste: It is grainy sweet with a slight corn like flavor. The hops are low citrus and floral. There is a bit of cracker towards the after taste.

Feel: It has a fairly light body with moderately low bitterness. Carbonation is moderately high.

Overall, a refreshing beer overall with good flavor and clean overall.

12oz Can
$8.99
Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL

Solid Gold is solid gold. It's bright and effervescent. The finger high head is snappy and crackles while managing to retain a nice crown. The body glows bright when backlit. This is what a drinker should look like, clear, but not crystal, bright and inviting.

Smells cold & wet. Freshly cracked grains kick it off followed by damp grains and a soft, rounded sweetness. There's a brisk little green apple character along with a squeeze of lemon and some spiciness on the finish. This beer smells like what it should. It's crisp and bright, simple and approachable, with a nice little twist on the backend.

The lemon gets it going on the tasters. It's vibrant along with the freshly cracked barley. The lemon softens in the middle where the damp graininess picks up and that well rounded sweetness kicks in. The swallow is lemon, Granny Smith, and fresh grain all over again. This beer is cleaner than hell.

The body is soft. Sitting a couple notches below moderate in weight, it goes down incredibly easy. It's active in the carbonation department with a bit of zest and the 20 IBUS show up on the dry finish with a hint of lasting bitterness. This beer is very approachable without being dumbed down.

Sold Gold is a mighty fine lager from Founders, but what else would you expect? It's crisp and clean with just enough going on to keep things interesting. These go down fast.

Tastes sort of like popcorn. The aroma features some grass, lemon and corn and exceeds what the flavor has to offer. It's an American Adjunct Lager but it will get higher ratings than it deserves because it is Founders. Don't expect much more than a typical AAL or you will be disappointed.
