Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
For those of you familiar with the Solid Gold we’ve featured in our taproom for years, this is not the same beer. Our Brewmaster, Jeremy, completely revamped the recipe and it now features lager yeast, corn and lemondrop hops for just the right hit of flavor. Our take on a classic, Solid Gold is a drinkable golden lager brewed with the highest quality ingredients. Challenging what a lager can be? That’s something we won’t regret.

L: brilliant old permeated by streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 2" white, frothy cap with fair retention

S: has a clean lager smell of light cracker, spicy, earthy hops, and faint DMS (canned corn).

T: flavors start lightly sweet with some cracker and an assertive, clean herbal and floral hop bitterness

F: medium light body and medium plus carbonation

O: a richly flavored, hop forward American lager

Pours a nice pale gold with an off white head that disappears quickly.

Smells of citrus (lemon) and herbal hops back by cereal grain.

A nice hit of lemon drop up front giving way to a thin malt middle, finishing dry with herbal notes. This is a solid beer. It certainly isn't fantastic, but given the style it is head and shoulders above the rest.

A semi golden straw yellow color with a small head. It has breakfast cereal aroma. Taste is like a mix of cereal grain and citrus and not too bad. Super easy drinking and would make a good session beer.

Finally found some relatively fresh six-packs of this beer to give it a try; canned May 8, 2018. Also impressed by the $8 price tag. Did d little research and discovered there's corn in this beer -- thus the AAL categorization. Poured into my short Becher glass.

L -- Lightly hazy gold color with a dense white head that settles to a persistent cap and revives well.

S -- Resin pine hops up front, mild sweetness from malt back.

T -- Piny hops on first taste with light citrus following and folding into grainy malt. Piny to resin notes linger in the finish and aftertaste with a mild bitterness -- near to astringent in the aftertaste.

F -- Body is light with a crisp to dry mouthfeel.

O -- My first impression was that this beer reminded me of a light APA; bigger hop note than most beer (especially AAL), but not overpowering. But the grainy character sets it up well into the AAL category yet, without being overly-cloying as most BMC beers can be with adjunct grains. I'd been craving some hops and was going to grab SNPA, but the Gold quenched that pretty well and at only 4.4 ABV.

Not a wow-type beer that will set your hair on fire, but well worth trying and keeping in mind for BBQs, picnics, tailgate parties, ETC.

Can dated 3-23-18 into pint glass. Pours a clear golden amber with a nice white head. Initial impression is corn, yeast, and maybe a touch of lemon. Mouthfeel is medium and refreshing. Clean finish. Good session beer and much better than the macros.

It’s a good corn adjunct (think Stag) with a typical Michigan craft brewery hop note (think Two Hearted Ale). What’s not to like?

from a single 12 oz can into a willibecher on a hot day, this pours a clear solid gold with a nice 1 finger white head that subsides slowly and leaves some decent lacing. Nose promises some grainy malt, some lager yeast, and more citric/lemony (but sweet lemon) hops than I was expecting...the citrus seems strange for the style. Taste is better, with the grain and some corn coming through. No layers or subtlety, but substantial. Feel is full and surprisingly soft, with carbonation middling. This isn't real subtle and the hops run some unnecessary interference, but it still has loads of flavor for 4.4%.

Pours a golden color with a minimal head that was quick to dissipate. At 4.4% ABV, it makes this a sessionable brew which is the reason I bought it. I wanted something that I wasn't going to get trashed on over the course of the afternoon. This fit the bill nicely, easy to drink and decent flavor - better than the macros imho. Crisp, clean and refreshing. It's not something I would normally seek out but it was perfect for the occasion. A solid lager.
