The beer pours a nice creamy off white head that looks pretty nice. The beer itself is a good looking solid clear gold color. It looks fairly nice.

The smell is decent. It has a good mix of a sweet rum note that gives a good alcohol note and a pine and orange hop note. This a very light wood though it's fairly hard to find it.

The taste is okay. It's fairly sweet and heavily boozy. The sweet rum notes such as a light vanilla and an orange hop bitterness with an alcohol bite in the finish.

The feel is decent. It's thin and creamy with a biting carbonation and a fairly dry finish.

Overall, it's an okay beer but the rum is overpowering such that the beer loses because of it.

Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with the "bottled on" date printed on the label. Served in a snifter.

Appearance: The one finger head sticks around for a while and leaves very thick lacing throughout the entire glass. It's a hazy, dark reddish gold color.

Smell: There's a strong, alcoholic scent from the rum that leaves room for little else on the nose. There's some wood and malt in the background and that's pretty much it.

Taste: Very boozy and slightly fruity. The main flavors being of sweet rum, molasses, caramel and malts. It has a bitter aftertaste but the hops are not that present.

Mouthfeel: Robust and creamy with medium carbonation. Quite cloying.

Overall: The strong alcohol taste is very overpowering and the sweetness is cloying. It's a good beer, but not great. A dud in Founders' barrel aged catalogue.

On tap in Sacramento. Pours a deep amber/gold color with frothy white head. Nose is a lot of alcohol and taste pretty much follows. Not getting anything near a mosaic hop flavor, tastes like a hot mess. A whole lotta alcohol creep in every direction. My least favorite of anything BA by Founders , and I really liked Doom - a lot. Glad to have tried it but it just didn't work for me.

Pours cloudy amber/copper color with a 1+ finger off white head that was packed with tiny bubbles, dissipating slowly and leaving minimal spotty lacing and a creamy layer on top.

Smells like dark rum, orange peel and a piña colada mixed together. The rum barrel aging is quite evident and comes off as sweet and dominating. I didn't get any mosaic hops, and thought if you closed your eyes you'd be convinced it was a mixed drink and not a beer. A bit too over the top for my liking.

I get what they were trying to do, so I give the brewers credit for that, but this was too sweet and boozy for me. The rum is really strong and takes over the taste, allowing hints of caramel, vanilla and pineapple sweetness to come through. There are some earthy notes mixed in, but it's all rum barrel and very little mosaic hop or IPA driven. It somehow does not have any sort of alcohol burn, but I wouldn't say this was a smooth sipper either. One and done.

“Sweet and hoppy, rich and bright – rum barrel-aged imperial IPA brewed with Mosaic hops””

Pours bright opaque tangerine brewed in rum barrels and citrus notes laced through heavy DIPA... very nice!

If you like rum this is your beer. Not overwhelming in my opinion but not in the background either. The rum barrel is more forgiving than the bourbon barrel.

Bottled on: 6-11-18 consumed 11-9-18

Poured into pint glass. Pours a hazy amber color with an off white carmel head.

Smell: is of sweet rum and coconut. Remins me of a mai tai

Taste: taste is way more balanced then the smell. Taste has a light sweet cherry favor with a butter hops after flavor. This goes down much smoother than I thought based on the smell and 11.1 ABV. I’m not sure if I am disappointed thinking that this would have more rum flavor.

Mouthfeel: is medium light. With a little sting from the hops at the finish.

Overall: a good beer. The smell is like no thother beer that I’ve had, then again I’ve not had too many rum barrel aged beers.

Poured lighter than I expected, but still a nice, deep amber. Almost no lacing. Smell is intoxicating and something to be experienced. Tastes as if someone dumped a Mai Tai into an imperial IPA and served it up, but that doesn't do it justice. It's rummy, tropically, and just a little bit hoppy too - not as much as you'd expect from something like this, but I think the barrel flavor overpowers the hops. Still, a nice, fun drink to sip on over an hour or so, which is how long you'll need to drink it! Definitely a fun brew to share with curious friends, or your dad.
