Copper colored with an inch and a quarter of densely packed, creamy tan on top. Light lacing in the glass. The nose is packed with light rum and coconut. I'm tasting an intense amount of light rum and coconut. The mouth is warm with alcohol and there's a light alcoholic burn to the tongue and throat throughout the palate. Moderate carbonation is present. I like rum so I think this is fun in that it looks and is carbonated like a beer, but it tastes and smells like light rum. Truly unique.

Looking at the overall rating on this beer I’m a bit shocked :(
This is a summer beer cocktail and may even get better with age .
Golden color with a smaller head due to high abv.
The smell is intoxicating and sure to give lightweights a buzz :)
This is definitely a rum forward IPA , so there is no mistaking it being aged in rum barrels .
Mouthfeel is just average as expected .
Overall I freakin love them and would be happy to see these release every year and the same with Dankwood .
I love Founders barrel aged series and hope they continue to experiment .
Highly recommended .. CHEERS !!

Pours an effervescent and hazed gold with a thumb of Rocky eggshell colored head. Stellar lacing and great head retention

S: Faint rum and butterscotch notes

T: Raw barrel notes, butterscotch, cakeyness and pineapple up front, plenty of dryness. Rummyness stays strong, plenty of booze, faint pineapple, dryness, and a little leafy hops as this warms. Finishes dry, boozey, with traces of honey, butterscotch, with a little pineapple

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

Interesting DIPA, I would buy it again

I'm not sure why Founders insists on barrel aging DIPAs instead of barleywines. BA barleywines are categorically better than BA IPAs! Plus this comes across more as a BA barleywine...but whatever. It's a tasty beer and the 11.1% abv is very well hidden. The predominant flavors are vanilla, caramel, rum, and oak. Very nice.

Founders Barrel Runner, 11.1% ABV. Pours orange with a nice one finger white head that left nice foamy lacing. Nose is pine and rum sweetness. Taste follows, plus fruitiness, with a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I'm not much of an IPA fan, but this is probably the best IPA I've had. I like RBA beers, so that doesn't hurt.

Hoooo boy, reviews are all over the place for this beer, let’s see where I land with this. It pours a hazy golden orange color with a thick light tan head.

The nose is where this misses a bit for me - I get no discernible hops, just a lot of boozy rum. Getting nervous (I wasn’t a fan of Mango Magnifico, and the nose on this is bringing back memories).

But there’s no reason to worry, IMHO. The Mosaic hops are very present on the taste, with pungent citrus flavors balancing the rum and booze nicely. Delicious.

I saw a review that compared this to a pina colada. I thought that was a harbinger of disappointment for me (I don’t like pina coladas - at all), but it turned out to be accurate, and I really enjoyed this. After the sniff test, I would’ve said that wasn’t possible.

Well done by Founders, IMHO.

Bottle dated 6/1/18 into pint glass. Pours a clear amber with a fairly coarse off-white head. Initial impression is malty, boozy, and fruity, with a distinct rum presence. Reminds me of Captain Morgan boilermakers back in the day (which I apparently managed to survive relatively intact). Mouthfeel is thick and oily, carbonation is light. Alcohol is proudly front and center, starting with a burn and finishing with a dull, almost radioactive glow in your chest. You can create a high ABV beer that has good manners (DFH 120 Minute, for example), but Barrel Runner says "screw that".
I like big beers, but this one is a little over the top.

This beer pours a brownish gold with a decent head. The aroma is massively fruity and boozy - pineapple juice, cococnut, passionfruit, vanilla, high-esther rum, vinyl - it is mostly awesome, but a little scary. The flavor is much more subdued, with strong notes of peach, pineapple and guava, but almost lightly grilled fruits, with a hint of char and plenty of sweetness. and a mellow, bitter finish. The mouthfeel, while thick, is lighter than one might suppose, with minor carbonation. Overall this is a pretty tasty beer, but maybe a bit bombastic yet - especially in the smell. One hopes it will age well. Still even as is warms and react with oxygen, is does melt nicely.

I'm not a fan of this beer even though I really wanted to be. The ethanol finish is pretty intense and the rum nose reminds me of freshman year of college... If this beer is supposed to remind me of the tropics, then something is wrong. Maybe a port-a-potty in the tropics. Hate aside, there's nothing particularly wrong about this beer. If you like rum, hops, and ethanol, in very high amounts then you'll probably enjoy this.
