Nicely balanced with sweetness and hops, and the barrel work adds dimension and depth (with the alcohol kick, of course). Slightly buttery, which is common for these types of beers. I am a bit surprised that the average rating is not higher. This is definitely not less than a 4.0 beer and the beer masters should be proud of the result.

Rum and beer is not the best combination. Not bad, but not that good. Also really sweet, like a rum.

Light hazy, dark orange beer with a one finger high head that leaves lacing on the glass.

The beer looks interesting. Lets check it out!
Nose: Orange marmalade, apricot, mango, caramel malt, oak, hops, cookies and alcohol.
Taste: Orange, sweet caramel malt, mango, grapefruit, vanilla, oak and rum.
I didn't get re rum in the nose but definitely in the taste!
Mouth: Medium body and carbonation. Oily texture. Nice bitterness at the end.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Teku glass. Bottled on 4 June 2018.
A: Pours a lightly hazed orange-brown with creamy head.
S: Smells surprisingly and wonderfully hoppy. Some booze. We're in Devil Dancer territory and I don't notice the rum barrels at all.
T: For such a promising description and excellent nose, the flavor is almost completely flat. Some barrel influence, plenty of booze, and a whiff of Appleton rum on the mouthwatering aftertaste. (Mouthwatering in the literal since, not any sort of flavorful sense.) I can't detect any hops, but there is some vanilla and a carbonated bite that is potentially magnified by Mosaic. Maybe three months is just too old?
M: Full, not cloying, chewy and moreish.
O: Really disappointing, but then again my expectations were sky-high. A Mai Tai inspired triple IPA with rum and Mosaic? I think Founders pandering to me, specifically.

Taste: semi sweet, rum, woody notes, with slight coconut, and subtle dry hop in the boozy warm finish. Boozy rum and oak wood nose. Gold, semi clear, smaller head some ring of lace. Medium to full body. Clean finish and tasty toasted alcohol notes from the rum barrels.

Thick orange with excellent head retention. Opaque.

Orange, rum, mango on the nose; tropical and boozy.

Flavor follows, with a huge rum punch up front, followed by citrus notes. Finishes quite dank along with mango and pineapple .

Smooth and lively; a touch hot. Long finish.

A very interesting beer. Definitely not normal, and quite reminiscent of a mixed drink.

A: The beer is dark brownish yellow when viewed from afar and when held up to the light it is hazy amber in color with a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that quickly settled down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of oaky rum are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of oaky flavors of rum with associated notes of vanilla and underlying hints of mangos and oranges. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is exceptionally drinkable considering its strength and the only clue you get about its alcohol content is from the rum barrel flavors. It was pleasant to sip and seemed more like a lighter-bodied version of an American Strong Ale.

Pours a murky brown-orange with two fingers of off-white foam that retains very well. Aroma is boozy rum that packs some heat. Mingled between the boozy, peppery rum notes is orange and tropical fruits. Rum permiates the nose the moment the bottle is popped open. Flavor profile is boozy rum, that mellows a little towards the finish of the beer. As the rum mellows, hop notes such as orange, papaya, and mango come out. There is a charry, peppery start, but comes more back towards tame at the finish. Mouth feel is a slight effervescent, with a velvety texture that keeps it drinking silky smooth. Overall, a boozy, boozy rum beer, which is a bit surprising for only being 11%. On the one hand, that's a good impressiveness, on the other hand, the unbalanced nature of this beer hurts its score. For those who enjoy rum, or boozy beers, this one is for you. Cheers.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

Not a good beer. I can’t think of a single time I’ve had a beer that I hated. I love Founders. It’s my favorite brewery. But this was just awful. I didn’t want to try it, but I had to and I’m happy I did so that I can ensure that I don’t ever buy it. Sorry Founders, but I still love you!

Appearance: Cloudy golden with an average off-white head and limited lace.

Aroma: Heavy rum. Rum. Spicy fruit. Rum. Wood. Rum.

Taste: Big rum flavor off the bat, with heat all the way. Hops are underwhelmed by the huge and boozy rum characteristics. Unique and certainly adventurous but not one I’d try again.

Huh. I'm not sure what to think about this. Up front you get clubbed with the Rum barrel. Mid palate you transition to an almost citrusy finish which lingers, obviously from the hops. Neither aspect really intersects or competes with the other. They just kind of take turns. Ultimately this is a one and done for me as it's kind of like a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich for me. I like each aspect individually, I'm just not sure they belong in the same beer. Maybe a different hop choice with more pineapple and orange notes . I think a lighter barrel touch would probably be advisable.

WTF did I just drink? This beer has multiple personality disorder. What is it trying to be?

Poured hazy orange. Light off white lace.
Aroma of sweet bread booze? Smell not of hop IPA ish. it's piney and boozey. Butter pine hops and booze. Weird blend.
Overall...not buying again
