I've been waiting a long time for this one to come out and made sure I found it before it sold out. Definitely prejudiced toward Scotch ales, and definitely a fan of bourbon barrel beers (stouts, barley-wines, porters...) but this is my first wee-heavy having spent time in bourbon barrels...

A: Light and fluffy two-finger head settles to a thin cap with minimal lacing. Color is a deep dark red with garnet highlights , a little hazy but mostly clear and very attractive.

S: Bourbon and vanilla and a sweet strong malty base. And tropical fruits and oak.

T: Just delightful. Vanilla, oak, coconut, pineapple, caramel, raisins and dark fruits, maybe even a bit of chocolate. Not especially screaming Scotch Ale, but a delicious pairing of barrel and beer.

F: So smooth and well-carbonated, substantial and viscous, but incredibly inviting. Very easily drank despite the ABV. There simply isn't enough of this made...

O: Worth my wait and interest. Should probably get more before it's gone...

Years trapped in wood,
Crawling out covered in syrup,
Eyes flash to the bar,
Grin of missing teeth.

A: Caramel brown and brilliantly clear -- a thick creamy head that just refused to subside (3/3)
S: Like a shortbread cookie at first, then blending to clear bourbon and booze, with notes of raisin and toffee in the middle (9/12)
T: Remarkably rich and dessert-like (burnt toffee on a sweet whiskey-soaked sponge cake?), but that alcohol (with a bit of coffee maybe?) kicks you in the ass at the end(17/20)
M: Very creamy, surprisingly so given the superbly clear appearance (4/5)
O: Tread lightly, this old bastard shoots to kill. This is a great cure for a cold night or a good companion for a small, rich dessert. Otherwise, this guy is going to overpower anything it touches. (8/10)

Bourbon notes right off the pour. A sweet, caramel-chocolate taste that's not too strong and very pleasant. Really smooth. An easy drinker and one that packs in the alcohol without harshness. Great relaxation beer.

12oz poured into pint fresh 2014 bottling

A - poured thick and almost oily. Murky amber with no head even though I poured hard.
S - Bourbon. Sweet, syrupy malt behind, but bourbon all up in front
T - boozy vibrant bourbony note that sings over the top of a fantastic deep caramel malt backbone
M - Thick, rich
